Thats fantastic footage, Ive never seen one so tame, they are a member of the Crow family so I know they are very intelligent , I have birds in my garden that will eat from my hands, ......no Magpies yet though, I can always hope !
Welcome to my world :) I have three in the house at the moment. I can imagine the chaos he caused in your office (there are no pens or paper left intact in my home office!), but I bet he was a lot of fun to have around. Does he still visit?
A lot of people insist that birds are "dumb" and randomly reproduce sounds they have learned. I, on the other hand, know birds to be very intelligent creatures, the corvus and pica family (to which the magpie belongs) among the most intelligent, and very much aware of the associations sounds have to what meaning. Birds as they are have very complex social networks, and meaningful "dialogue" is much a part of that.
@Gabbyandindigo Actually, European crows, magpies, and to a small extent even jackdaws, have pretty developed vocal cords, and can actually "mimic" sounds to a certain extent. It is very much possible that, given this bird has been around humans for a while, it will start to "learn" to reproduce sounds.
