the commentator can't shut the eff up. Jim is alright but that other guy ruins every single shot and keeps switching to the skycam and drawing on the damn board.
pool and snooker can't be compared. snooker is a much harder game. That's why een snooker player can beat a pool player on a pool table. a top pool player will not beat a top snooker player in a game of snooker.
Pool is a much easier game and that's why the standard of playing is lower.
And because the game is "easy" it's very hard to beat your opponent. It's easy for him to.
Two legendary players, love to watch them play. Mika is so intensive and archer always focused and calm. Great stuff. I wish I had mikas competitive spirit.
aside from people always commenting about how much they hate the commentators. I actually enjoy them. Incardona, Wych, Deliberto, Hall, and Forsythe are all great and add great input. I especially enjoy this match because every time i hear Jim Wych talk i learn a new word, his vocabulary is good. in this particular match i learned "complacency" and "Lackadaisical" very good....
Has anyone ever noticed that nine ball players are usually amazing at eight ball but not all eight ball players can play nine ball? If you watch some of the local people closely you can tell who is built for what. Also...yea....no bringing snooker into this.
@qustav37 because it's nine ball its played a bit differently than 8 ball which i assume u play but if u want to get better play nine ball it helps with positional play
Snooker players may have better potting ability because they play with smaller balls on 12 foot tables. And of course some of the safety play is very intricate in Snooker. But let's consider this - American tables play very differently to Snooker and English pool tables. Pocket shape is different, the rails are totally different, the characteristics of the cloth are different and the balls are a lot larger. The are skills that snooker players will never use in snooker - Break and Jump shots!
Snooker players break very differently whenever they play 9-ball. And of course they'll have never learned to jump to the extent that they have to jump and pot balls AND get position. And every time I've seen a player break, they keep their chin down as if they are playing a normal shot, it is impossible to generate power like this. And of course they tend to lose the cueball a little more as they don't practise the break enough. A good snooker player could not just dominate 9-ball.....
... because the game isn't about potting. There are many characteristics that make up a pool player. Sure if the snooker player devoted themselves they would have more of a chance of competing, but there are so many players who can win a world pool championship that it isn't a shoe-in for a Snooker player to do well.
I wish that people would accept that these games are incomparable, in the same way that Rugby League is different to Rugby Union and Showjumping is different to Horse Racing.
The only argument I have against Snooker players being "better" than pool players is: Why aren't the snooker players beating even the lower-level pool players at 9-ball tournaments? Ronnie O'Sullivan is insane. A master snooker player -- and he's an incredible 9-ball player-- but he still loses to lower-level pool players. It's not for lack of trying. It's not for want of skill. The games simply do play differently. And lately the pro tables are shimmed rather tightly. Misses are common.
@asasucks its not being a crybaby, its being upset with yourself and being a very competitive person. of course, you wouldnt know anything about that, you smile and laugh it off when you lose or fuck up and never improve yourself. oh well, hows being mediocre?
playing snooker can really help you're stroke. I have my own pool room and I can play with regular aramith balls on a snooker table. I just find snooker to be very draining game and american pool is just more fun, more games can be played in American pool, and its not as tiring. its just preference i guess.
Archer made some mistakes but his speed is so good he can get out of trouble. his mistakes were understandable though, tough situations, big room for error. Mika is great too, always there at the top. I've seemn him play, solid pocketing.
immonen's still the coolest in my book, I watch him play in Amsterdam all the time, excellent player, always runs out, has people racking for him from start to finish
The pockets are alot smaller but the balls are also bigger, as a Snooker and Pool player I say that Snooker is harder to aim to, but when you are losing postitioning in snooker it isn't really a problem. But, in pool you can't lose positioning then you'll srewed. So... There are differences but both games isn't easy to play.
fu**in' hell. i really hate that "i have been into snooker or other cuesport and when i look at these 9-ball players i just have to comment how big the pockets are and how easy is to play. p.s. i'm gay" shit.
@phixxwutwut Justa like saying that soccer players are better than basquetball players...because in their game, it´s harder to make points.....that´s fucking stupid :S
@phixxwutwut I'm a recent convert to 'real pool' like this, uk pool played on shitty small tables in council estate pubs and clubs is just pointless, low skill low rent crap.

Thanks Waylo, for validating my assertion that Americans have the attention span of knats. And they need lots of pretty colours too. You're right though. Snooker only has two colours. Red and black. And the trouble with snooker is, you can't miss a pocket by 2 feet and still make the shot. What kind of game is that? Saintlumpy? You're not blind .. just dumb. I think being blind would be worse but it's a line call.
Snooker needs to make the pockets way bigger and have thicker cues.
Actually, the balls need different colours due to the nature of the game, which has nothing to do with the attention span of north americans. why are you so angry? why does it bother you so much that people play a different game than you? you do know that many different situations arise in the game of 9-ball that require the type of pockets that are on a 9 foot table? i bet if you were to try and shoot some hard positional shots on a 9-ball table youd fail horribly.
ok snooker pockets are smaller but so are the balls are they not? plus they have snooker sticks which are really skinny. snookers' boring red, color, red, color just boring.
This is not easy. I know a guy who plays with these pro's. He practices on a 12-foot snooker table with a regular set of balls and still runs 7-10 racks in a row. If you have ever played on a snooker table then you know this is no easy feat.

Tibi,I played A-Grade pool here in Australia for 15 years. The tables here in Oz are closely aligned with those in Britain. You need to be extremely accurate to pot. These 9-ball tables allow you to miss...and still pot. Any rail shot is a cinch if you get the ball in the right postcode. You cannot do this on proper tables. These 9-ball tables are designed for one thing - a fast game... and television.

im from oz too, i have tried my hand at a bit of 9 ball, it is a shitload easier then Australian/English 8 Ball or Snooker, in my opinion its the square cut pockets, shot down the rail is never gonna miss, try that on an Australian/English table your gonna miss 90% of the time because of rounded pockets (Knuckles)people who say snooker is easy because of smaller balls and pockets, the balls are not that much smaller, try hitting balls only just smaller than 9 ball balls with a 9 or 10 mm tip
Yeah absolutely right man, the balls in snooker are only a few millimetres smaller than 9 ball, but the pockets are INCHES smaller on snooker tables. Plus the table is bigger making for more distance between balls. I've made a few centuries in the time I've been playing snooker (for a year and a half now - played English pool and American pool for 6 months before I started playing snooker), and the other day I played 9 ball - I think I missed 2 or 3 balls in the space of 8 hours!

Moron? I'm watching a game where the guy misses the pocket by three inches and it stil goes in. Where is the skill in that? Typical American game. Get it over quickly because the locals have the attention spans of knats. Sorry Jim. Make the tables a little harder and you might have a game. The way you play it is like shooting fish in a barrel.
if you think it's easy to play pool, and the pockets are wide try to make a 60 ball run in staright pool or try to make the clearance 8 times in a row in nine ball, or 3-4 times in a row in eight ball..a pro can do that or even more. it's not as easy as it seems.
