  • i have the same problem!

I just set up my tank a week ago Feb 7 09.

Did the brown algae grow on your sand too and did it disappear after your cycle? ( i'm going to assume that your done or almost done with your cycle lol)

  • Yea I'm almost dont, I tested my nitrate and I had 1. But on Friday I went out and bought 4 more pounds of LR. I turned my lights off for like 4 or 5 days and I had them on since, the algae is all gone now, but no I didn't have any on my sand, and I used a turkey baster to blow the algae off, I have a new video, showing it w/more LR and the algae is like gone.

  • I found something out, the algae is called Diatoms or something like it, its all back in my tank a gain, everybody goes through it, since in the SW cycle for 4 weeks you have high nitrates this algae grows and tries to absorb it, it will go away after a while. Just stir up yor sand bed if you have any on it and blow it off the rocks with a turkey baster or something

  • yes u need the lights on mainly for the live rock and sand to stay alive.

  • oh ok, thnx. Yea its doing a bit better now, I have had the lights on, but turned them on yesterday, and now its a bit better

  • prolly just really light brown algae or something idk looks weird

  • yea, i had my lights on, and its my cycle, i turned them off now to help limit the growth, do i need them on or off during the cycle

  • I bet it's Algae! is this ur tank?

  • yep thats my tank, this is my other channel
