I never once realized that Freddy was Jeremy Brett, one of my all-time favorite actors. I feel so stupid that I never tumbled to it. Now he is even that much more wonderful, and the show is that much more enchanting.
that's how it works - when a guy likes you and shows it he'll never have you but if he acts like an ass - that we like. What the hell is wrong with us?!
Like? Are you kidding, I LOVE this song. I can't stop watching this, so romantic. I would marry the person who would sing this to me!!!! Love Audrey!!!!
The character Freddy Eynsford-Hill was portrayed by the British actor Jeremy Brett. Although a singer in his own right, his singing voice for the film was dubbed by Bill Shirley, an American singer-actor.
@sodiumoxybate Actually, you could argue that this was a cover, since the original rendition of the song was in the original production of My Fair Lady on Broadway. Although I certainly like this version, I prefer the original rendition of the song, which you can hear on the original Broadway cast recording of My Fair Lady.
Oh Jeremy, why can't you be on the street where I live? After you sang a beautiful song to me, we could meet up with Doctor Watson. He and I would marvel as you solved a case.
Am I the only one who thinks this actor is just about one of the most attractive men who ever walked the planet? I mean seriously.... he's right up there with Tyrone Power and Errol Flynn. The most beautiful face and voice I've ever seen. I especially loved his role as Nicholas in "War and Peace."
If you like him so much, perhaps you would enjoy his role as Sherlock Holmes in the 1984 tv series. I think he did an outstanding job; in fact, he was perhaps the best of all those who have played Holmes.
I had no idea this was the "Sherlock Holmes" Jeremy Brett! I've watched this movie a hundred times but just now recognized him. He was such a grumpy Sherlock! LOL! But I love him in this role and especially in this song.
@riggs20 Jeremy Brett had a great singing voice, but for some reason they dubbed in another singer on this song. I velieve it was Bill Shirley, the tenor who sang as the Prince's voice in the Disney Sleeping Beauty.

They don't write songs like that anymore, the romance in it gives you goosebumps. And Jeremy is awesome. That was indeed an era of great artists and creativity.
I showed this song to my friend a few days ago, and now I've lent her the DVD and keep encouraging her to watch it. Having just celebrated her twenty-fifth birthday she is seven years my senior, and I wish she was my big sister, but musically I'm old enough to be her grandma!

"All at once am I
several stories high
knowing I'm on the street where you live" ---- GENIUS !
"Does enchantment pour
out of every door?
No, it's just on the street where you live" ---- CLASSIC !
"Oh, the towering feeling
just to know somehow you are near...
The overpowering feeling
that any second you may suddenly appear" ---- MAGIC !
