  • Dude nice job, all u people cutting down Martin guitars? If it's a Martin it's a beautiful guitar!!

  • Nicely done. I think that is the same tuning as "In the shape of a heart" acoustic.

This is on my list to learn.

    TABS???? Info would be great!!!

    Cheers

  • Thanks for sharing, you did a great job. also like your D-42. I call mine princess because of her beauty. Never wanted a D-45 after I got her.

  • Great Rendition!!

    Great Sound and Voice.

    Keep it up!

  • Great rendition. Voice, chords and picking are first rate. You did Mr. Browne proud. What's your tuning? Any tabs available?

  • Good version, I picked up some bits that I was missing. Well done

ps Great guitar too (the Martin), good sound

  • If sound is you main objective in a guitar purchase, I believe the D-42 is the best Martin you can buy. The bracing system has a lot more to do with sound than most give it credit for. The D-42 is all about huge resonating sound. I bought my D-42 used, unheard, unseen, and from the very first time I played it, it blows me away. Simply put- Best sounding acoustic guitar I have ever owned, played, or heard in my life.

  • Try the d28 marquis, less fancy but better sounding with the adirondack top.

  • I do not believe that the d-28 marquis holds a candle to the d-42. I also can not believe the price that the marquis goes for. I personally feel that the sound produced by a guitar should be relative to it's price, and with the marquis, I just don't see that. Sound is a matter of personal taste and everyone has a different ear. Strings make a big difference as well. I have bought strings that made my Martin sound from horrible to angelic. All guitars of the same model are not equal either.

  • I've a D42 and it's a great guitar.

For my taste,my friend's D28 Marquis is better, more resonant and bell like tone,it costs a bit less than the D42.

    Bye.

    Paolo,from Italy.

  • how much does the d-42 go for...i just got a takamine ef341 - the one springsteen plays - i love it...but this guitar has a distinct sound - might have to make a 2nd purchase!

  • Be prepared to spend at least $3000 for a Martin D-42. I do not know if you would be interested in a new or a used one. The more that it has been played the better that it will sound. All guitars of the same model are not equal, as they all have there own voice. I owned and played takamines for years until I discovered Martin, and am familiar with the ef341. It is a good guitar but not on par with the sound or craftmanship of a Martin. I see a Martin as an inverstment and not just a guitar

  • You really seem to enjoy the best part of playing music, becomming part of it. Thanks for sharing

  • Yeah he really does and hes rather good at it.

  • As a lifelong JB fan, I'm a little embarrassed to say I don't think I've ever heard this song, and if your version of it is the only version I ever hear, I can't imagine Jackson doing a better job!

    Remarkable job!!

    Well played, and beautifully sung!

    Thanks for posting.

  • andrew this is superb yes the first jackson browne song ive listened to very nice :-)

  • Hey dude, whats up, we spoke a while back, i was asking your advise about 42's and 45's and what was the better guitar, your input was a great help, just thought I'd let ya know i went with the 42, you were so right! what a canon. One actualy came in at my neighberhood guitar shop, played it for an hour, what can I say, I bought it on the spot. OUT OF THIS WORLD, I'll never buy another guitar again. It's so loud, that forward shifted bracing really makes a difference. I love it., thanks again.

  • This is fantastic news! I'm so happy that we both have the same opinion of the 42. I would love to see you upload a video featuring you and your new baby!

  • @7080hutchison you both made a great choice....this guitar has such a wonderful sound

  • Very nice job on this! Thanks for identifying the tuning (I had been trying to figure that out). I'm working on the chords/left hand fingering and it looks like it should be straight forward but can't quite get it. Help?

  • I would be happy to help! I love this song. Feel free to contact me with any specific questions and I can work through them with you. You could Skype me perhaps?

  • Thanks. With the alternate tuning, I'm a bit lost on chord shapes here --I think I can get it worked out if I could decipher the chord progression. I tried to follow along with the video but the left hand dips a bit out of frame from time to time. I greatly appreciate your willingness to share. BTW -- I've checked the four published collections of his work including the anthology but the song is not yet published was not in any of those books. Thanks again!

  • Thanks for the quick reply, I actually have had the pleasure of playing a 45, out of this world when it comes to looks, but your paying for all that abalone, it's no different than the 40 and 41 tone wise. It's the 42 everyone is telling me to get. Like you I'm buying it without even setting eyes on one. Thanks for the advise man, and keep on rockin in the free world! Cheers.

  • You got a great voice man, very soothing.Nice ax too. I cant decide between a d-45 and d-42. I heard the d-42's sound better than the d-45's because of the foward shifted braces. Louder , better low's mid's and high's. What do you think?

  • Thank you so much! Actually, I fell in love with a D-41 and bought a D-42 sight unseen. I was nervous because I couldn't imagine the -42 could rival the beautiful tone of the -41, but I was thrilled that it did! To tell you the truth, I've never played a D-45 and wouldn't want to because it's way out of my budget so it would only depress me. I was assured by the salesperson that the difference between a -45 and a -42 is not worth the additional $4000.

  • @AndrewLloydSweater - your salesman was right. For normal people like you and me the difference between the 42 and 45 isn't worth the 3K price difference. I'm fortunate enough that both are within my budget but after playing both I chose the 42 because to me it wasn't worth paying 3K more.

  • You have a lovely voice. Really enjoyed this. X

  • Could you tell me the tuning you use for this. I haven't been able to find it. Excellent job! Thanks.

  • Thanks so much! It's an "open D" tuning, but every string is lowered an additional half step (i.e., "open Db tuning"). Starting on the lowest string (string 6), tune to: Db-Ab-Db-F-Ab-Db.

  • Thanks for the reply and the help. That was quick! You are a very gifted guitar player and singer. Keep up the awesome work!

  • Hi, Nice guitar work and singing. Could you tell me the tuning of your guitar please. Keep up the good work.

  • one of my J.Browne faves, you did such nice cover. cheers ALS

  • bravo
