@ssdivizion lol, it's the idiom police. Nope, I meant hands down, I've actually never heard hats down. It just sounds like a different version of the same thing. . .brilliant, awesome, all that good stuff. The lyrics are what really get me--just amazing.
Better than the studio version, thanks to that beautiful slide...and the singing on the chorus is outstanding. Nobody mentions the Edge's vocals, but they're such an important part of U2's sound.
@tiefhals : I so, so agree with you. The studio version is great, but the incredible energy in this live version is palpable. And hell yes, Edge's slide work is, once again, fantastic.
This entire concert aired relatively un-announced on MTV back in 1991 I believe -- my roommate and I were watching and then little John Norris said "... and that was Warrant with 'Cherry Pie' -- and now, watch the 'Lovetown Live from Sydney' with U2!"
This was a very good version of this song. The entire concert was great. Wished Lovetown Tour could've come Stateside back in '89.
This is the song that got me into U2, first listen i was chuckling at the Hammond organ intro then the 'BOOM BOOM' and i was hooked, without doubt the most influential song in my life so much passion and emotion....love it....had the lovetown tour on vhs but sadly lost..thanks for posting!!!
with out a doubt this entire show needs to appear soon {really hoping u2 would release it like so many other footage} great set list Knock'in on heavens door was performed! with bb King that nite this gig was filmed by richard lowenstien a australian film maker!!!!
This sounds so good live, & love Edge's slide guitar.
