I think this is a song of hope. He says "IF I never" throughout the whole song until the very end, and it is always said with a plea for forgiveness. At the end of the song he says, "I hope you can take care of your own, next time I see you." He says he wants to remember Rwanda caring for its own. But if it can't do what he asks, THEN he won't ever call it home again. There's hope that he might call it home once more, and I hope he does.
