  • yhe interest thing about blackmore is that ,basicaly, hes nuts

  • The interview is real great but the background music is too fucking loud.

  • He knows the business...and he is straight to the point.

  • @ScienceFecality Questions about Ritchie Blackmore's music are too important for me, so I can't take it easy. This guy once changed my mind and Rock music is the best thing I ever had in my life. And Ritchie is a rock'n'roll angel... I just can't stand any tribute to him, because no one can be like Ritchie. His latest record hurts me bad-- it's only pop. Believe me,man, that things make a DP fan suffer. I'm not angry, no, only sad, 'cause I love him too much.

  • Play rock'n'roll, Ritchie! Be yourself! I don't believe in your last Blackmore's Night albums. This is not really YOU. You're only involved in this stuff for a while. For me is only one Ritchie Divine guitar player - Ritchie Blackmore IN ROCK ! And I don't know where he is...

  • i think, stargazer ))

  • whoever made this video should have kept the background music....IN THE BACKGROUND!

  • background music is too loud, can't hear a shit

  • Inspiring interview. Interesting how any bands' best music comes early on, flying in the face of common conception that things always ripen with age.

  • i have to admit ritchie knows his stuff and i totally agree with his statement about todays music i mean as an example jedward they are totally useless musically but young kids love them so now they r on tv all the time anyone with real talent is now working in tesco or something its sad but true

  • People have said very similar things about Blackmore as he said about Graham Bonnet.

  • Sorry Ritchie...I don't agree that House Of Blue Light was rubbish...there are some good songs on there, although it's not my favourite DP album.

  • WHATS THE SONG?!

  • @Grumberf

What's the song?...well it's words set to music, sung by a singer;-)

  • Very interesting interview. Thanks for posting. I think it very much shows Ritchie as a personality, he really explains what was the reason for moving on from DP to Rainbow and then to the knid of music he plays now. Whatever he does next - I would respect it, because he IS the outstanding musician, he really has the right to choose the knd of music he will be playing next, - and I am sure he will maintain same CLASS as he always maintained before.

  • I play death metal but i dont listen to it well not alot I am just now starting to really like the heavier stuff

  • what a genius ritchie is , in music , he new his goals

  • you gotta love this man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • reforming Mark II brought some really great music! Perfect Strangers is so good, to think that that album would not exist is depressing.

  • I agree that reforming DP MkII was a mistake.

It's a salutary lesson for people who want to see great bands reform.

Probably best to remember them as they were in their heyday...

  • Geniua speaking...!!! Shut up and listen!!

  • Interesting comments how you would sabotage your efforts Ritchie Blackmore. I am a Gemini and tend to do it regularly even now.. its because the challenge is no longer there and i know it because what i did was for me no one else.. that's parts of the reasons i self sab.. analyze it more its self centred ness i think any ideas out there?

  • the music in the bk ground is annoying so i opened up the Master Volume on my tray and checked the 3D button it did make a difference.. try it..

  • learned a lot from Jon Lord, and he trains a lot, still manages to feel spontaneous and not just like Hendrix or Gilmour who never practiced his guitar!

  • I agree with Ritchie. House of Blue light was a very poor DP album.

  • Nice to see interviews with Ritchie. Very insightful! I had the pleasure of seeing him twice with Purple and also with Rainbow in 96 or 97. It was their last tour in the states and at a smaller venue. The show was brilliant. Candace Night was in the background watching and I believe she came up for a bit. The show was Rainbow though and I'm glad I got to see him close up. He played very well that night and smiled a lot. Very talented. Wish I could have met him.

  • as supposed to be in the early days between 66 and 75, if you were good for instance Jethro Tull, great musician great music it's a hit, today it doesn't work that way, if you got good music invariably it's not a hit, but if you had bad music it's a hit depending on what fashionable statement your making and nonsense.

    I agree 100%

  • I totally agree with Ritchie: today's music is stale and sterile.

  • 76,666 th person to view this....yikes ! blackmore is into "all that stuff " ...well, i will put a spell on you ritchie -"you WILL get along with the rest of purple " "you WILL make another non compromising rainbow lp " .... and you WILL give me the strat you used on "burn " ....you WILL .

  • One person of the watchers of this video is a Justin Bieber fan.

  • good comment on Jethro Tull, Ritchie Blackmore is a pretty interesting guy

  • when I saw your performance with Deep Purple - I was wondering why you look bored, unhappy, and sort of reserved. Now I know why after watching your interviews ie you were not happy with Gillan - can't blame you. Just to let you know I love Blackmore's Night Music!!!

  • ritchie seems like his drunk and trying to hold him self togeather to get through the interview

  • Ritchie to the camera man ; " Keep the video dark mate, so's me wig looks good"

  • he seems really intelligent and honest.

  • He said when he was in school he didn't want to know the past, he only wanted to know about the future. Except, no one knows about the future, Ritchie. IT HASN'T HAPPENED YET!!!

Who needs another Spinal Tap movie when we have the real thing in Ritchie Blackmore.

  • is that Elf playing in the backround (Dio's first band) yes it is

  • I just love Ritchie Blackmore.

  • alguien q se ofrezca a traducirlo al español?

  • Fuck all the haters.

He can do whatever he wants. He has talent, and was apart of big projects.

He is a phenominal Guitarist, and has some great songs. He may have a few faults but I'm sure everyone of you has some as well. Leave him alone. He has more talent and meaning then any of you. He has sold millions and is one of the most underrated but best guitarist of all time! What are you?? What have you done besides troll on the Internet!

  • arrogant ass, that's what he is!

  • @nba2065 I'm not saying your wrong but, I don't agree. I think he's closeminded, but at least honest about his opinions. I don't know, I'll kiss his ass for space trucking, one of my fav riffs.

  • @nba2065 Fool.

  • 日本語訳をありがとう。

    彼の苦情は過去のものだと思いたい。

    今はロックが見直されていると信じたい。

  • By admitting being in the reformed Purple gave him a chance to be lazy and just amble along 'so to speak', is a little like saying, he didn't give a fuck that his fans were being ripped off. Basically he sold out, he should never have gone back into it if that was his attitude. I saw them in Sydney in 1985... totally uninspired rubbish I thought and I was always a big fan of Purple.

  • He may have his ignorant moments or whatever, but when you get right down to it he is a very respectable artist and does what he wants. As a person he can be immature, but he's not the demon that a lot of people paint him out to be.

  • Blackmore is an arrogant dude. The black sheep. He don't need math or history, he don't need to make himself empowered. As for Deep Purple Ian likely had his faults. But, Blackmore could not keep a band together. He regrets all the singers he had........ good luck with your money loving wife. A good talent but, lost like frost. If Deep Purple was lazy it was because he just followed along when he could have make "House of Blue Light better.... but, he didn't.

  • A good interview. I like what he said about good music doesn't get played these day's just bad music makes it. TRUE!

  • theres subtitles so what,s the problem

  • damn it. he's so right in the end talking about music :/

  • Blackmore seems such an easy-going personality in this interview. But the background music is too loud and Ritchie's voice is too soft. Great interview though.

  • he said tha he asked gillan to joined the band???? seriously?

  • whats with the fuckin music in the background its so loud

  • Nice words on Tull

  • Although Staus Quo have always been my favourite band, Ritchie Blackmore was always my favourite guitarist. The man can do no wrong in my eyes. Ritchie is simply the best guitarist who has ever walked on the face of this earth.

  • He speaks softly. But looking at this dark person one can imagine that he can be a real bastard. Gillan is a bastard with his ingenious english. So the clash was obvious to see. Ritchie also knew that he was 90% of the songs so he used his power on the other members.

  • Thank you for sending this rare interview Alex!!! Master Blackmore and Ronnie are both geniuses, but each had different ideas about which music should be played. Both do like being in charge. But Rainbow was Ritchie's band, so Ronnie had no choice but to leave. Good thing he did--look what he did for Black Sabbath and his own band DIO.

  • true legend

  • いいこと言うね。カッコいいじゃん

  • His last quote about today's music is very telling.

  • i agree, specially coming from such and experienced and respectful figure.

  • Yeah

  • great interview 5/5

  • This video showed me Ritchie up close for the first time ... solitary, mysterious, moody and unpredictable ... just like the music he plays ... those were good days of rock and roll !

  • yes

  • the egg man will rise again

  • Ritchie is a Legend, Just listen to all his song his written...It's genious!

  • Hails, Ritchie Blackmore forever a LEGEND

  • In my opinnion Blackmore is the best guitarist of all time, he never took drugs just like Hendrix, Page and others did, and what a great music he have made without them. He have made a lot of classics in hard rock, but now he play medieval music, folk rock and stuff like that, and its still great.

  • I totally agree. For me B. is the best too forever. Every note he plays has function, so his music is clear, well composed. I don't like all of his hits, but I like all his solos even in his bad hits, eg. Smoke on the Water. (I don't like that.) Recently I've bought his new album, the Locked in a Crystal Ball - or sg. like it - perfect! 8 minuites, but not dull, it's found out very vell.

Best wishes: a drummer from Hungary

  • What is amazing is that blackmore, page, beck, clapton, townsend all kind of grew up near each other and look what they did to the world of guitar players!!By the way he,s worn a wig since 77(i saw that tour with his new hair!!),Brilliant guitarist.

  • GOLDEN YEARS !

Black sheep was a great track!!

The newer folk stuff under a velvet moon etc is a must for a relaxing evening!!

  • I really like Blackmore - one of the best ever. Whenever someone says something like "there have been no fresh ideas in rock in 10 years" it just means that they have been looking in the wrong places. There is a lot more to regurgitate, but also fresh acts. I do agree with him that it the fresh ideas are not the hit records though.

  • Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin are perfect examples of hard rock and guitar gods.

  • Yeah the 70's where a top decade and i agree with u to a point on Zepp, when Zepp rocked they really rocked, but on every album they didn't, there was always blues, folk, country even touches of reggae.

  • Ritchie is my seconed fav guitarist of all time. First is SRV and page is a good 3rd.

I never cared much for hendrix. Used to but got over it. Redhouse was my fav of his but its everivant

    Ritchie rocks. He is amazing.

  • That's funny!

Ever wonder what SRV would've been had there been no Jimi?

  • I'm with you. There is no SRV without Jimi.

  • the music in the background is so annoyingly loud

  • Amen

  • @Rammbock

    but its great

  • @Rammbock Agreed. Ritchie is so soft spoken as it is, there shouldn't have been any background music at all.

  • @Rammbock Read the subtitles

  • @DobrePytanie LOL

  • lose the wig? Do you want to see Ritchie bald?! Wig or no wig Blackmore is god :)

  • Ritchie doesnt have a wig. I doubt Candice is with him just for his money either! I wish I could be like him when im 63!!!

  • showmasterd, it was just a joke :)

I know Ritchie doesnt have a wig.

  • Blackmore *definitely* wears a wig in these days and in this video. No question about that. But he can do whatever he wants because he's Ritchie Blackmore :)

  • Doesn't have a wig? Come on!

But then again: who cares. ***ggg***

  • Richie had been out there long before Ronnie. He just had a different concept of it. I understand him completely. Not every band stays together forever, and bad musician choices and mistakes happen along the way sometimes. The music that comes out of it that we enjoy is the most important and was the testament to those talents at that moment in time.

Everything that comes out of Dio is resentful and angry, as if it's everbody else's fault. Gets old fast. He's an immense talent, though.

  • well i have to agree with you there drumsludwig

ronnie does have issues with previous musicians hes worked with hes an amazing singer though no one can deny or take it away love him or hate him

  • i think ronnie was correct in leaving rainbow and joining sabbath and later doing dio i have seen a numerous number of interviews saying how difficult blackmore is to work with and no one has anything good to say becides his guitar playing that cant be denied

  • Well said Dio brother.. I don't blame Ronnie one single bit about Ritchie.

  • thank you i mean when you look at the facts no one has anything good to say about him most say hes an asshole they only praise his playing

  • you are very welcome, and that's true. Ronnie takes care of everything what's going on, but Ritchie doesn't seem that way.

  • its just gillan, glover, bonnett who says that ritchie is an asshole!..to qoute glenn hughes: we were all assholes at that time, and ritchie ran deep purple like he wanted, and i only have good things to say about him!

  • yeah, we all know what it was about playing with candice that excited ritchie

  • Hard rock ain't commercial? Ritchie are you sure? Back in Black, Number of the beast, Black, ACDC, Motley Crue, Metallica Iron Maiden are all multi million selling bands.

    Strange thing to say.

  • "House of Blue Light was rubbish"

that's true, I'm a big Purple fan but I use that CD as a coaster on my coffee table!

  • He's right, shit floats to the top while good music sinks.

  • the music in the background is soooo annoying.

  • " The Music" is some of Rainbow's best stuff, however I agree it's intrusive...like the Jap subtitles

  • Last question was the best!! hahaha

  • Good interview...

They got what they wanted from blackmore, but the questions were really ridiculous, with exepcion of some

    (i'm 14 and i listen do DP)

  • He asked Gillan to join Rainbow?! I never would have thought that!

  • that must have been after Graham Bonnet was fired

  • before

  • nice wig though

  • At last a good no crap interview from Ritchie, tells it as it is and was, will always be underated, due to not being popular.

if you cant feel what you play ,leave. Agreed with all he said.

  • " I stayed in Deep Purple because I became lazy"

    Hah thats amazing!

  • Ritchie the greatest guitarist ever, it's sad he has to depart from Purple...Purple not the same when he left.

  • The true master of guitar..no one can ever compare with this man,he has it all.feeling.speed.sensetive..world will never know how god this man was (is ) until he is gone..

  • very true. one of a kind. imho the best uk guitarist ever. but he has stated , not in this interview, that he was influenced by hank marvin of the shadows and bert weedon!!!. still a great fellow and well worth listening to if you can find any interviews with him.

    simply the best imo

  • Ritchie is so right. It's all been done and now it's all cheap cheesy bad cover jobs...so sad!

  • great stuff from a total genius. wish he would get rainbow back together with dio ( or me ) on vocals. i do a mean man on the silver mountain in the bath.

  • what's the name of the song with the exotic solo?

  • its "Difficult to Cure" (Rainbow). its from the budokan gig in '84

  • It's Difficult To Cure from Rainbow (Ritchie Blackmore), a great number!!

  • It's from Difficult to Cure from the last Rainbow show in 84 in Japan.

  • The last comment about hit music is so fucking true!!

  • i wish ritchie blackmore teach me his technic i am 14 so i am not like other kids listening to linkin park .i grow up listening to deep purple and rainbow

  • IM 13 AND I LISTEN TO THIS TOO:):)

  • YES MY BOY. WELL DONE!!!

  • same as me..my father showed me purple when i was 4 years old! today purple is mye favourite, rainbow a good second and ritchie is my favourite guitarist..and im only 17..it is great to se more and more kids discover how great blackmore and purple actually is

  • all was done, insuperable!! Ritchie you are a genius.

  • Richie Blackmore rules supreme. Great watching theese interwiews. thanks for posting them.

  • you have to be crazy wild and peapol must think you are from enother planet, to be good musician, your thoughts must be different from others if not you are like everybody else ,

all good musician are crazy in there own way and thats wat makes them good musicians.

    this is my opinion..

  • good point at the end there.

  • Wonderful! Thanks footballKingdom!

  • Wow, and this interview is already 10 years old! What a musician.

  • legend

  • nice video that's true that Ritchie Bla ckmore is hard too understand by some moment but the music is nice, especially the improvised guitar solo. By the way is someone knows from wich CD or DVD it come from ?

  • from Japanese TV Program in 1997.

  • Yes I guessed that it's from a japanese interview ... Thank's. But, do you know if the guitar solo part is availaile on a DVD or a CD ?

  • 10000000000000000000000000000000000000.... thx for posting these.

  • The man in black tells it like it is! awsome thanks for this rare gem!

  • me too, fuck!!!

  • oooooooo please no music. cant hear a fucking word.

  • GET A SHOWER ASSHOLE

  • go searching for your head between your short legs, great prickhead
