its more realistic. an actual zombie would in general look normal but with decomposing skin. In the early stages of decomposition the skin turns to grey. Almost all zombies in zombie movies are freshly killed people, so it makes sense.
My all time favorite zombie movie and one of my favorite horror movies mixed with Death- YUMMY!!!

i like the 2004 version, but it always seems creepier when the zombies are slow moving. you get more of a sense that their dead.
