that is an awesome drawing but if you don't wont to see finger prints on your work in a few years you shouldn't blend with your fingers. The oil from your fingers will stay on the paper and will become visible in a few years.

I am an art major, you sort of have to draw the outline of things so you get them in the right spot and things. No cheating lol. It actually makes it alot easier, though your still doing all the drawing yourself.

Draws are not like photos, which are just copies of the reality.

when you draw something, you can't avoid to project something onto the draw, (and I can't draw, but I really look up to people who has the skills to do it), and for me, this picture does pick up kristen stewart face features, I don't know, like her eyes or something, a portrait doesn't have to be perfect. What I really wanted to point out is that: even if you don't read the name of the video, you know who is the person! ;)

If you are doing a portrait you are going to draw what you are seeing. But if you just use maybe kristen stewart just as model to draw after you need to draw what you heart is saying, not your mind. Just wanted to clear that out for you. But i admit it you hade right..

this is an amayzing drawing :] btu i do agree with some other commenters that smudging does make the drawing look more unfinished and rushed

this is good, but a few suggestions:

- when shading things,go in the direction of natural lines. eg when doing the lips, draw lines going up and down (slightly curved so they become 3D-ish) instead of all diagonal.

- shading irises, do it in a wheel-spoke pattern like the natural lines on irises.

- dont smudge.build up shading very gradually,light at first then darker in areas that need it.

trust me,if you try these techniques out your drawings will look even better-more realistic,less flat!

I always smudge to... maybe I shouldn't. If you don't smudge though you can totally see all the lines and stuff. It's really annoying.

well the thing about drawing people is that there are no definitive lines on the ....try this. Take a picture and make a copy. draw a grid on it about an inch apart. and make a grid on a sheet of paper to draw on and shade in each box seperately of the exact darkness of each litlte box.. if done right it turns out really nice. thats just to practice shading. but just remember that about the lines on faces just try to shade using your pencil...i may do a tutorial of what im talking about

you should try blending stumps, in case you don't know what they are, they're basically rolled up paper in the shape of a pencil that you can use to blend without your fingers.

i always used to use my fingers too, but blending stumps work just as well (if not better) without all the mess.

just a tip from one artist to another.
