@xljetmedic not that long ago police in tn arrested a man who was on a gurney and being rushed to the hospital.it was a three car crash one was dead and this guy was near death.the cops came recognized the guy who had a DWI warrant and cuffed him while medics were saying no he is in bad shape. cops grabbed him off the gurney and laid him in patrol car.firemen and medics were saying no no he is dieing but cops took off to jail.guy died 2 hours later in cell.both are still cops.just my opinion

In Houston, Fire Trucks are dispatched to all highway/freeway accidents as a traffic buffer, therefore all other emergency crews can work more safely without the fear of being clipped or mowed down by passing vehicles. Then we call again in 15 minutes, no show. Same when we were following a drunk home. Swerving all over the road. Call 911, and nobody showed up. We couldn't keep up, so he got away. As a fire fighter's wife, I knew this happened. So glad they videotaped this. People get pissed when lanes are closed. They need to understand that the Engine provides safety to our FFs who are putting their lives on the line to help others' in critical situations. So the next time you get upset that the lanes are closed, just know that it's someone's husband, father, son, wife, mother, daughter, etc. is kneeling on the side of the freeway, & the only guaranty of their safety is that truck.

This is another episode of a cop in a bad mood and needing a reason to arrest someone. Apparently he doesn't realize or care that any line officer on a fire department has more authority on scene than a police officer does. The only thing a police officer should be required to do on the scene of an accident is direct traffic and investigate after the fire department gets there.

I'm a retired fire captain. I lost count how many times I ran into ignorant officers like this who didn't know the law. If fire is called, once they arrive the scene becomes theirs and they are in charge, not the cops. We can tell the cops what to do, not the other way around. It comes down to the Police officers not understanding how EMS/Fire create safer situations in unsafe enviorment. It's a pissing match and education issue. PD will block off lanes for their saftey and not worry about traffic flow. This is a case of PD not wanting to slow down traffic flow and not understanding how EMS/FD protect themselves.
