Hmm. I'd never heard a cover of Nightswimming before. Too bad it was crap. What is it with country music singers and needing to over-complicate the vocal part of a song? They seem to like to scream or be really loud, often forcing themselves.
They're like one trick ponies, so doing a cover of a rock ballad doesn't make much sense. The piano also sounded pretty muffled and weak, but I guess that's what a country music piano is.
I don't hate country music, just some of the nonsense involved ;)
this is a badass song and sugarland is a dam good band.. deanna0611 that sucks about your brother but hes in a better place place now looking down on yall and and is probly smiling.
this guy i was dating wrecked his bike a few weeks ago, leaving the bar on his way to my house. I was supposed to go out with them that night, but i stayed home and did my homework. He still isnt awake, an it'll be 3 wks on saturday the 17th. this song is pretty much the only thing keeping me sane right now. The ironic part? his best friends name is joey.
This song means alot to me My brother Joey was night swimming and left in his truck (sober ) and he and his friend Don were killed in a wreck because of trees piled up on the side of the road from a previous storm. This is almost like someone wrote it for him ! He had been at work bagging groceries and went right after work to swim. He was just out living life to the fullest and God chose to take him from this world. He left alot of sad people here but He is in a better palce. I love this song!
"What if I'd gone out that night?" "What if I spoke up?" "What if I took the keys?" "What if you'd turned left?"
I gather that Joey was driving drunk, and got in a fatal accident. The singer wishes she could have been there to stop him somehow.
People have said they wish that the lyrics stated exactly how he died , but I prefer a song that actually makes me think about its meaning instead of says "Joey, I'm so sorry you got in a right turn accident driving drunk." Maybe that's just me.
Does it actually say he died? because i thought that he could have been in a coma or something. saying Can You hear me, people always say that people in a coma can hear you. jsut wondering.
spooky how an the intro to an REM song written nearly 19 years ago can mesh so well with this song. Joey is a powerful and thought provoking song by itself but by adding just a touch of Mike Mills' (Bassist for REM) genius it can have such deeper impact.
love this song to death my favorite singer is SUGARLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

that was an ok cover, probably the best thing they have which goes to show how much they suck at writing songs, not as passionate as michael stipe.

What song? Joey?? its about the love of a lifetime and him dying. she is thinking of ways she could have changed the outcome and apologizing for not.
