I loved Aria of Sorrow, Dawn not so much. This game improved upon Symphony of the Night's design. Plus I think Soma is my favorite character from the Castlevania games. Though Cornell is a close second.

This game is so incredible I couldn't put it down. I was really disappointed when I showed this to some friends and a bunch of them thought it was stupid and asked me why the hell I liked it. There's this one asshole in particular who watched about a minute of gameplay before the reaching this conclusion: "This game is so retarded it's almost funny!" If only more people I knew appreciated this work of art.

SotN does fit the series better in tone, but the art style doesn't detract from the game being damn fun. Good to see they returned to form with Order of Ecclesia in terms of art style, though.

There will always be great games that ignorant people will put down because they aren't into that kind of game. I dislike most all sports games, but I never say they're bad games. I just don't get them and it's near impossible for me to play them. For them it's probably similar, only they are obviously willing to put games they don't like down.

@DrBreakfastMachine Yeah, I agree this game is awesome. My version is on one of those Double Packs so I've beaten both this Harmony of Dissonance. I guess one of the things that makes this game so great is the fact that when you kill a monster, it will sometimes drop its soul. It's like a Castlevania version of Pokémon. Gotta catch 'em all!
@LareBearProductions Hey, I've got the Double-Pack too! It was way cheaper than buying the two of them individually. Harmony of Dissonance is a great game too in its own right, but the main attraction on the Double-Pack is this one, I think.

I prefer the older games (Castlevania 1-4) they were fun and a lot more challenging than the SOTN iterations. I'm not big on the style of the new ones. They've Japanime'd the hell out of them to the point it doesn't feel like the same series.
I don't know. I haven't played OoE yet, but the fact that there's no Belmont(s) or trace of the Vampire Killer is a bit annoying. I just wonder if they'll make one starring Julius involving him defeating Dracula in 1999. I would love to see him go around the world in that game. It would be like Bloodlines, only with a wider range.

i hated when there were special secret ending bosses, i also hate when they have a second form because they are usually easy, but in this castlevania game the secret boss was nothing like the rest
It took MP to attack because glyphs use up magical energy. Shanoa's MP restores nearly instantly anyway, so that's a pretty poor reason to say OoE "sucked".
If anything Order of Eccelsia had one of the better systems for Castlevania. Every attack, be it a sword or a spell, costs mana but mana regenerates damn quickly when you stop attacking for a second or two.
Makes usings spells a viable form of combat, unlike Charlotte in Portrait of Ruin who'd run out of mana quickly and had to stand still to cast anything good.
@ZeromusX OoE is one of the best CVs for any GB system. For me the ranking goes: AoS>DoS>OoE>CotM>PoR>HoD. All of them are great games, but IMO that's the way I prefer them.
@ZeromusX not really, being able to attack is kinda key. some weapons take a ridiculous amount of magic to work so you can get off 3 or 4 hit then have wait.
i never made it far in that game, there was just too much wrong with it. the protagonist seemed like a robot, couldn't get a firm hold on the plot, and music was bland, level design was meh and etc.
it might not be a bad game in it's own right but it's an extremely feeble and mediocre addition to the castlevania library.

get a curly or something like that, get undine, put them on. go to the door that you came to get to the water fall,once you get out turn into curly or whatever and charge and dont slow down.
The best way to beat chaos is to use Red Minatuar and just swing your big axe, a few of those and all the eyes will be gone, then just destroy the center globe.
Exactly, I was boggling at how long this was taking. Both phases are about 10 seconds each with Red minotaur. It's not even a boss because of that soul.
Well, it isn't exactly a cheap trick, is it? It is not a glitch or anything, just a design element that is lacking balance. I agree that it was a poor choice by the developer to make the Minataur soul so overpowered, it is not a "cheap trick".
Anyway, I have beaten this boss quite a bit quicker than this without using the "cheap trick" as you like to say.
Poor balance or cheap trick; whatever you prefer to call it. It's like using the Crissaegrim or Alucard Shield in SotN or Dominus Agony/Death Ring in OoE and then saying the game was "too easy".

You're not alone is the best theme in the game.... to bad he can't beat Momentary Moonlight (Actully the credits background music of Dawn of Sorrow, You're not alone's remix). Still one of my favourite themes.

@TheTragicPrinceAlvin and 2, the ragers, trolls, and even CAMPERS, are overly abundant in the series, plus it opened up the path for a new cheap shot to the face noob, black ops brought second chancers. for those who don't play cod or haven't encountered a second chancer yet, second chance is a perk that when you die, you fall to the ground, lay on your back, take out your pistol and continue shooting, basically making a win button for a fight you rightfully LOST!

Oh no, I'm not bashing PoR, I really enjoyed it and the extra modes were fun. I just didn't like how the last four portraits were basically recycled areas (though admittedly most Castlevanias are guilty of this).

I prefer the older games (Castlevania 1-4) they were fun and a lot more challenging than the SOTN iterations. I'm not big on the style of the new ones. They've Japanime'd the hell out of them to the point it doesn't feel like the same series.

I don't know. I haven't played OoE yet, but the fact that there's no Belmont(s) or trace of the Vampire Killer is a bit annoying. I just wonder if they'll make one starring Julius involving him defeating Dracula in 1999. I would love to see him go around the world in that game. It would be like Bloodlines, only with a wider range.

It took MP to attack because glyphs use up magical energy. Shanoa's MP restores nearly instantly anyway, so that's a pretty poor reason to say OoE "sucked".

If anything Order of Eccelsia had one of the better systems for Castlevania. Every attack, be it a sword or a spell, costs mana but mana regenerates damn quickly when you stop attacking for a second or two.
Makes usings spells a viable form of combat, unlike Charlotte in Portrait of Ruin who'd run out of mana quickly and had to stand still to cast anything good.

@ZeromusX OoE is one of the best CVs for any GB system. For me the ranking goes: AoS>DoS>OoE>CotM>PoR>HoD. All of them are great games, but IMO that's the way I prefer them.

@ZeromusX not really, being able to attack is kinda key. some weapons take a ridiculous amount of magic to work so you can get off 3 or 4 hit then have wait.
i never made it far in that game, there was just too much wrong with it. the protagonist seemed like a robot, couldn't get a firm hold on the plot, and music was bland, level design was meh and etc.
it might not be a bad game in it's own right but it's an extremely feeble and mediocre addition to the castlevania library.

Use a soul like Curly (any soul with a charging attack) to get past the waterfall.

The best way to beat chaos is to use Red Minatuar and just swing your big axe, a few of those and all the eyes will be gone, then just destroy the center globe.

Well, it isn't exactly a cheap trick, is it? It is not a glitch or anything, just a design element that is lacking balance. I agree that it was a poor choice by the developer to make the Minataur soul so overpowered, it is not a "cheap trick".
Anyway, I have beaten this boss quite a bit quicker than this without using the "cheap trick" as you like to say.
