The best part of this song is how corrupt some parts of the song sound, like "This is end, it's all or nothing, you screw up here, it's the end of all of us"
People say that the composer for Portal should've done Portal 2. I disagree. There were far too many dead-silent locations in Portal, and plus, the music in Portal 2 fits the situations much better anyway.
@kumboliyou Up until that point, I noticed the song just sounds plainly ominous, but from then on, it gets sadder and more hopeless sounding. Might just be me, but I think it seems sadder from 2:34 onward on purpose.
@kumboliyou because that's around the part of the fight when his whole calm, menacing act starts to drop and he starts saying things like "You never caught me, you knew I might die if I fell and you didn't catch me. I bet you two have been in it together from the start, haven't you?", and etc. That's the part where you're supposed to feel bad about the fact that you're fighting him.
That, and because the music around that point starts to sound sad and more bleak.
@dezzierose No. The perfect theme for fighting an insane, nigh invincible Robot in a gigantic underground facility that is falling apart and exploding.
Well, well, well. Welcome to MY LAIR! Lemme just flag something up: According to the control panel light up there, the entire building's going to self destruct in about six minutes. Pretty sure it's a problem with the light. I think the light's on the blink. But just in case it isn't, I actually am going to have to kill you. As discussed earlier.
It sounds sad, in an insane, nothing-to-lose-and-we're-going-to-die-in-six-to-twelve-minutes kind of way. The callback to I AM NOT A MORON lets you know that he still may be in there somewhere, but its too fast, reminding you that you don't have time to sift through all the craziness to get to it. You have to shoot him into space, no matter how much or little you actually want to.
But Wheatley watched us destroy it. So he knows that it was destroyed. Which means, he had plenty of time to repair it while we were getting stuck in the tests in Chapter 8.
@ColinEmerald ya. u can hear it in "Dont Do It", "The Courtesy Call", "Wheatley Science", "TEST", "The Part Where He Kills You" and "Omg What Has He Done?"
@Mrcryptidsarereal I know you can, I just really remember it as the Moron song because that's one of my favorites, and the first part where I picked up the melody
In the background of all the spazz attack music, you can hear the incinerator room music going super speed. You can hear it real good at 1:12. Thumbs up if you can tell!
@NeverevenStudios But of course! Everyone knows that the Mormons use mangnet-powered combustible lemon launchers as their primary method of conversion.
@Ericzhanger oh, definitely, there's no doubt he's a total freaking moron, but the fact that he's genre savvy enough to actually LOOK AT PREVIOUS BOSSES FOLLIES and at least try to circumnavigate them is kinda ironic.
@Axapez You'd think some other bosses could take a page from Wheatley's book... maybe if Nihilanth was half this clever, he wouldn't have TELEPORTED GORDON INTO ROOMS FULL OF AMMO AND FIRST AID.
@Axapez I kinda think that it's because Wheatley is somewhat corrupted, just like the other spheres. Because he was programed to be a moron, corruption in his system makes him intelligent. However, because he's only partially corrupted, the intelligence is only situational. For instance, he can be crafty (springing the surprise early), but doesn't think his plans through all the way (trying to kill them elaborately rather than quickly). Not to mention his excessive monologues.
2. I doubt he could control Aperture's failsafes for corrupted central cores, or else they'd be pretty crappy failsafes.
3. Again, this could have been beyond his control- we don't know that it would be posssible for him to get bigger shields. His actual mistake was not paying enough attention to adjust his shields as necessary.
4. Another actual mistake.
5. Actually, when you think about it, if it wasn't for ...(continued)
@Ericzhanger (continued from previous).... Aperture's impending explosion- that is, if Wheatley only needed to kill you- then this part would have guaranteed that he won. Sure, his plan had enough holes that you could hit him with bombs and stick cores on him, but neither the cores nor the bombs did any physical damage- after blowing up the stalemate button, the only reason you survived was the timely destruction of the ceiling, otherwise you'd have no way to beat him.
I never even thought of that. It makes Wheatley sound a whole lot more dangerous when you say it like that. (That's a good thing, satisfying villains are always better) But I would like to think that if PotatOS could save the facility in the short amount of time you gave her while you were fighting Wheatley, then she could have come up with another way to save you and get him out of her body.
I always saw this track as Wheatley playing music over the sound of the facility, and when you hit him you can here what the facility really sounds like
Well I don't know anyone who thinks that "You Can't Escape you Know" is better then this. That song wasn't very exciting. While this song has reprises of songs heard throughout the game (Mostly Wheatley's recurring theme) And a main melody. While the first game's final boss basically had the beat. But no melody.
its like the main parts of the track are the facility alarms blaring out which keep on coming on but Wheatley plays music over them to drown out the sound but when you knock him out you can hear what is actually happening
@qwertyuiop246603 That's the point, that's what he was saying. Prior to the official OST coming out, people reffered to this song as "Four Part Plan". He's saying he likes that name better.
@Onewa80 oh.... OK lol anyways this part was really easy its basically the same thing as portal one except with bombs instead of a missle turret teh music is awesome though, anyways wanna play CE?

I see this track like this:
0:00-016 is load up time
0:17-1:38 is wheatley playing epic battle music
1:39-2:20 wheatley gets hit by bomb and the sound of the facility can be heard
2:21-2:33 Rebooting musical orgasm
2:34-3:15 Epic music plays but seems more desperate in a way.
3:16-3:54 Again facility can be heard but alarm sound can be heard
3:55-4:23 Epic music can only just be heard over facility
4:24 Rinse and repeat.
