The ONLY reason Street Fighter is popular is people were actually looking for Richter instead of Ryu. They saw a similar character, so they bought the game and Q.Qed.

With the white headband Richter looks like Ryu from Street Fighter Alpha series. He also looks like Ryu Hayabusa from the Ninja Gaiden anime.

I gots an idea for that game. You see, after Richter was controlled by Shaft, the Belmonts feared they could all fall to darkness, so Richter hid his only son away, who hid HIS son away before being corrupted, too. Now, it's the year 1900, and a mysterious man (Alucard) tells Richter's grandson of his fate, then much butt-kicking ensues. I've developed the more of the story than this, but I don't wanna bore you or run out of space.

I like Richter's theme from Portrait of Ruin. It's a bit more up tempo than this one, and the break down parts of it are really cool. Though, this is the orignal and personally my fave Belmont theme song. Aside from Simon's.... :P

I like Richter's theme, but I hate how he looks in Rondo of Blood. I seriously wonder what Konami was thinking, because he looks beautiful in SotN. How could he go from looking like a Street Fighter to looking like he does in SotN? That's a serious design change.

Its because Rondo of Blood was directed exclusively to the Japanese market, and hence, they made him look very "Anime".

SotN was directed everywhere, so they decieded to change his appearance.
