The show is incredibly underrated for its use of storytelling: The various characters, the intersecting story lines all happening at the same time, only to come together at the very end with hilarious results.
The Marine Biologist episode is the best example of this. It may be both the funniest & best example of what made Seinfeld so special.
You can see Jason Alexander aaalmost cracking up when he presents them with the golfball, it was mentioned in the dvd extras or it may have been from a kathy & regis-special when the whole ensemble were guests
The Seinfeld fan site on FB just posted: "Jerry Seinfeld believes that the laugh received after George revealed the golf ball to Kramer is the biggest spontaneous laugh given in the entire series"
Years and years of great comedy. This was their finest moment. I was watching with three friends of mine. We were on the floor with little doggy laughter.
Now picture this. We find a nice sweet spot between the dunes, we take out our drivers, we tee up and [makes a golf stroke], that ball goes sailing up into the sky holds there for a moment and then .... glueep!

u can feel, that every actor craws a hidden hand into something.. trying as hell not to start laughing in front of the audience and ruining the scene.
i loved seinfeld, and curb these days is pretty, pretty.. pretty goood, too xP
@Fitzgilbert Earlier in the episode Kramer went golfing on a beach, hitting balls into the ocean. Later he came back saying that he hated it cause he stinks. For the rest of the episode it was left alone until this scene.
like everyone else here I reached my laughter breaking point while watching this for the first time. Such violent spasms of delight I have never felt, and will never feel again.
This is probably my favorite scene from the five seasons that I've watched thus far! Does anyone know where to locate the scene in which George decides to leave his girlfriend's apartment because he had to use the bathroom and felt that the proximity between the bedroom and bathroom was inadequate? Danke schön!
Apparently this was done in just one take, or at least the golf ball reveal. Really shows a testement to Richards' acting and composure, because anyone else would've burst out laughing then. And the magic moment when the audience realized what it was (which really added to the scene) would've be gone for good.
@agentstinky I dont think so, there was a roundtable discussion with the four of them on one of the dvd extras I think, and Jason Alexander was praising Richards for keeping it cool in that scene for that one take.
I think that this episode needs to be seen in its entirety. The fact you forget about Kramer hitting golf balls into the ocean makes the golf ball's reveal even better.
....a strange calm came over me, I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but at that moment I was a Marine Biologist.... LOL...
George: Oh yes they did Jerry they were all over me. It was like Rocky 1. Diane came up to me, threw her arms around me, and kissed me. We both had tears streaming down our faces. I never saw anyone so beautiful. It was at that moment I decided to tell her I was not a marine biologist!
Jerry: Wow! What'd she say?
George: She told me to "Go to hell!" and I took the bus home.
@nickgas6 What do you mean? The quote is from the end of the episode. Even though they use a freeze frame after Kramer says "a hole in one", that's not the actually ending to the episode. Usually they would cut to commercials after a freeze frame then come back and show a brief clip, sort of an extra scene even though the episode was technically over. But if you're just asking me where I found the quote, I just looked up the script online.
"The sea was angry my friends, like an old man trying to send back soup at a deli"...omg...that's hilarious! Oh, and I love the "he was 10 stories high if he was a foot"! Good stuff! Seinfeld rules:)
What's interesting about this is that Jason Alexander had to memorize that monologue at the last minute, just before it was filmed live. What a great show! George is still my favorite character.
