  • I have truly enjoyed this video with my kids. I got 1 shot of our 7 baby Belted kingfishers ,that were as large as bluejays.

Ours were quiet and very still .

I tried again the next day but they all flew the nesting cavity.

  • @CharlenePF1 I am glad you enjoyed. Quiet, eh?! Man, these ones were so LOUD!!! I went back shortly later too and they were gone. Pretty neat.

  • We really enjoyed this video. We were learning about earth-hole nesting birds and this was a great addition to our study. Thanks!

  • @gilbeythree Thank you for watching. Im glad I could help your study.

  • thank you to mylesfalconer also then :o)

  • thanks so much for this one, you may have solved a mystery I'm working on that looks very much the same

  • @yalitldevl Im glad to help. It was actually mylesfalconer who corrrected my misidentification error. He must be a bird guru. Thanks, Dan

  • After watching the video again, the chicks even have the markings of the adults.... and the noisy chatter. I guess it goes to show the importance of proper identification and to not get tunnel vision in identification. Thanks again mylesfalconer

  • I stand corrected. It is a KINGFISHER nest. NOT a bank swallow. Live and learn.

  • cool, but this is a kingfisher's nest and those are kingfisher nestlings. I hear the swallows in the background though. They must be nesting in other holes nearby.

  • @mylesfalconer Wow! Thanks for the correction. That would explain why the chicks were as big as the swallows and and had such HUGE beaks! That just makes it even more of a cool find! That would also explain why I never could get a picture of the swallows landing in the hole.... duh! There are a number of holes along the banks. Mabey if I head out that way again I can get some more pics. Thanks

  • Thanks guys. After doing a bit of searching, I found they are BANK SWALLOWS. They live in holes they dig along the banks of rivers and such in colonies called "foreclosures". Pretty funny name. I just thought it was a pretty cool find and had to share with y'all.

  • cool baby swalows.

  • Thanks for sharing...........5/5*s

    Tom

  • Thats a great thing
