@daveygravey123456 yep!, one of the players gets to choose the cue ball they hit right at the start. Either white or yellow AFTER the banking process( both players hit any of the two balls the umpire has given them against the short rail across from them where they hit off. The player who gets the ball back closest to the short rail wins the oppotunities to choose the colour of the ball he gets to use for the entire match and the first opening shot as well) to see who goes first

That´s not a difficult shot to make..difficult part is that you see the shot when you´re playing.Look the rightside links and clip on ´amazing shot by Torbjörn Blomdahl from 2006......`....now that´s a nice shot..really nice!!!
Notice how he hits three cushions? Short, long, short. Takes a lot of draw and side effect and many many years of practicing. It wouldn't count if he had just hit two cushions, that's the game ;P
@CarnalDiafragma It took me a lot of stop-starts on the video to convince myself that it did indeed hit the short cushion first followed by long, short - the 3 cushions were all hit in less than 1 sec.
I just wonder how far an umpire would be confident about that. If they play many of that type of shot then replay videos will be needed!
@lsbrother there is no need for that. The way he played the ball he must hve had three cusions. otherwise the bal would have gone long .... short and directly to the other side of the table.
Hard to explane , but almost every refferee and three-cusions-player knows that.
i have played first division in holland for three years and have never seen situations that needed a camera. Sure the ref can be unsure but the palyers always know it ;)
@lsbrother there can always be a situation that the ref isn't sure. but the player knows if the ball is correct and will always ( yes always !!! ) help the ref. It's a very honest game ,so there is no need for a camera and you can have it both ways.
i have been in a situation that the ref counted a ball correct. but it wasn't. the player went to his chair and sat down. the ref corrected himself and it was my turn.
above is for higher divisions. lower divisions always need a camera ;)
Well it's better to see when you're standing there as a referee, but yeah, you need a lot of focus.
But when the referee doesn't see it hits 3 cushions: it didn't hit 3 cushions (even if it did, referee is always right, so making these hard to see shots is just extra risky)

they can play any ball . Sometimes to hit a defense shot they hit the opponent ball , not the red. But for attack they hit red and opponent´s.
