Why is it so hard for people to understand surf? This guy said, He was standing by his house. " At the peak of these waves you could not satnd on your feet... He must live very far from the shore. This was the leftover set. This is a 50 to 60 foot wave easy. Unless you surf or know what you are looking at, and how the ocean works, it's hard to get a accual reading. It is breaking WELLLL off shore. The first waves that were in town...35 foot. Waves tend to get much smaller as they come ashore.

That's the helicopter's shadow, the quality is too crappy to make it out. It was obvious on the TV.

This is just the leftover aftershock wave set. Those little waves that it is running over, close to the shore...? That section is called the "outside" and "inside" (Outside being the furthest out). You know the beach waves. Those "little waves" are about 12 to 13 foot faces (front of the wave face). Those are just the washouts left from the water moving about. Before this footage the first wave had to bigger because it kept going. Had too, to cause as much damage. they didn't show the big one.
