Ok, i'm going to have to change the info on this video. I was upgrading to the 40D, and my 1D Mark II was at my office. The Rebel XT was the only thing I had at the moment. I now have a 5D2, and two 7D's on order. Geez, oh and I have a new Canon EF 200mm F2.0 L IS USM yeah.. the $5300 one. :)
It seems a lot of you dont even know that xt cant squeeze out everything out of those lenses (300mm f 2.8 for example). So why would you use a great lens on something that cant get 100% from it...
Just for the record, Ive got 40D 17-40mm L, 50mm f1.8, and 85mm f1.8 USM and i know what good lenses are.
That 300mm lens is sharp across the board. Even the top Canon cameras can't squeeze 100% out of this lens.
Your 85mm f1.8 lens is a high performer and well beyond the performance of your 40D. So in your own words "why would you use a great lens on something that you cant get 100% from it..."
I currently own 5D MK2 ,17mm F4L TSE, 24-105 F4L, 100mm F2.8 Macro, 70-200mm F2.8L and the jaw dropping 300mm F2.8L.
camera bodies go out of date every couple months, whereas the life cycle of lenses is years... often decades. if you're going to invest money into anything, you want to invest it in the glass. the quality [and resolution and light sensitivity] of the sensor in the XTi is better than what was in the original top-of-the-line 1D five years ago. it may be a crop sensor, and there are definitely better cameras on the market right now, but it's no slacker.
oh gosh. that comment made my day...nay, my month. you remind me so much of my friend andrew. he'd say stuff like that. and not to say you aren't a seasoned photographer but... google the canon 1200mm lense. now thats something i wouldnt mind owning.
The 135mm f/2L is the fuckin' cat's meow baby... blows the fuckin' doors off of ANYTHING that's out there... absolutely destroys the background and so sharp you could cut your steak with it...
SERIOUSLY DUDE WTF? Read the info. It was a tweener camera. And I'd never waste my money on a Nikon. My 3 year old 5D has sharper per pixel sharpness, and slightly more res too.
really? what proof exactly do you have that the 5d is sharper on a per pixel basis? personal experience? because you sound like you're not the kind of guy who would buy a nikon to compare.
@dwillpro I know this is an old argument, but id just like to point out that the 5D is full frame when the D300 is not. Full frame always wins. Otherwise, the D300 is among, if not the best you can get in that class.
@AIDSbanana okay i am freaking tierd of everyone who is so retarded that its all about the camera... its the SAME SENSOR apsc or fullframe. brilliant i say, can you understand that it is about the glass ?
"Smart" photographers know that it's all about investing in fine glass. You can have a million cameras and all of it being top of the line but it does NOT make you a better photographer and it obviously does not make your pictures any better. This was a great vid and I envy your lenses! :)
The 50 f1.4 = piece of shit lens.. All plastic aside from the mount.. The AF motor on mine died after three years of light use. Cost for repair was estimated at 150.00, plus shipping.. which means that if I were to fix it, and sell it, I'd make 50 bucks, minus shipping costs.. So, that = a 50mm paperweight. Disposable for the most part! Foir over 300 bucks, I'd at least expect it to last at least 10 years like my 50mm 1.8 MkII did! Go figure!
Nice gear! I wish Canon would make a modern Digital camera that would support older FD lenses. I for one own a bunch of them. Lets face it film is going out of style and I believe there would be an excellent market for a digital FD camera body.
You can find EF to FD adapters redily so you can still use your old FD lenses on newer EF fittings, ofcourse you will only have manual function , but still dont need to throw out your old lenses
True there are adaptors, but with adaptors there are tradeoffs unforutnately. Canon has the know how to produce a digital cameras. I believe that Canon could make a fortune even if they just produced one model to truely accomodate an fd lens. I'm not concerned about auto focusing I just want to use digital media over film with my FD lenses.
I don't know if Canon will ever do this but it would be a missed opprtunity mllions of FD lenses out there possible doomed to collect dust.
it was with a canon sd600 point & shoot digital camera. it does NOT update the focus during movies. I only shot it so i could play around with editing video. Sorry I spent $3800 on my 300mm instead of a video camera, and slide rails. haha :)
WRONG, i do have 4 sticks of 1gb each. Vista does not cap at 3.0gb, (to the guy below), it caps off at 3.25gb. But I could've had the 64bit edition which supports 7.5gb of ram. :)
there is nothing wrong with the xti. pretty comparable to the 40d actually. have you seen all the problems the new 40d's are having? now his 1d2 thats a different story. i envy you ff guys.
and thats a cool video. i like the part with the 300mm. reminded me of the space shuttle. lol
Whats wrong with that? The xt doesn't hinder the image quality any. I would suggest to anybody to start with a cheaper camera body, and invest in the glass you put in front of it. Whats the the point of buying a $2,000+ camera body if you don't put quality glass in front of it?

Guys you have to learn a lot.
The key to a good picture is the photographer. The second most important motive. Then comes the lens and the fourth in the Body.

Great lenses but a poor camera... i imagine the tiny camera body getting raped by those huge lenses. It's just not made for those.
Spend less money on the lenses but get a better camera.
Draftgon 2 years ago
clearly you know nothing about photography.
davidwmeckmier 2 years ago 2
Yea sure, why buying luxury lenses but saving on a low-end DSLR?
It's weird asking the best quality on lenses but not using them on a full-frame model for the best possible result.
Light-sensetive lenses but a less light-sensetive crop frame sensor.
The lenses could do better but hey - i clearly know nothing about photography right, david?
