  • Pretty awesome idea of Mesa. I would like to hear the mini rectifier through a 2x12. I bet it would sound pretty cool if it only had to push 2x12s instead of 4. I could be wrong, but either way, awesome product review. Thanks!

  • @SchaarBass you can hear it played through a 1x12 on one of our other videos. It's the Guthrie Govan Antique demo vid!

  • Yea! if your determend to spin a grand or close, why not go with the 100w Alboin head which looks very botique an awesome amp for ($ 899.99) I gurrenty they won't stay at that price for long, what a whole lot of amp for that price. you can create any sound you want and the clean is awesome! Deffently to be checked out.I would had bought it if I hadn't already bought one for2011NNam! Dam very nice!

  • I have to agree on the clean on carvin, plus it has soak switch on the clean which you can go from clean to blues to classic if you want.Channel 1&2 drives can also go from classic to thick or itense switch. Plus separet EQswitchs on all Three channels with reverb & Boost to select with volume for boost on back at your choice on ether channel. At 50Watts,22w&7W. Effects Loop switchable 4,8,16ohms line out cab vid&midi 120vac or 240vac switch. 4-el84s 4-12ax7s you can't beat it in a micro amp! $599

  • The Single Recto is my favorite Mesa, I really had high hopes when i ordered the mini. I also brought in a Carvin V3M. I just thought the V3m sounded better clean & distorted. Has 3 channels with 3 modes per. The 50w/22w/7w power section makes it an amp that can gig & be used for practice. It's also $400 cheaper but still made in the USA.

  • Er.......did the handle bend when you picked it up and turned it round?? Looks like it did.

  • @docnozzle nope! that is a retractable metal handle! :)

  • clean sounds harsh, boogies sound best balls to the wall for lead.

  • Camera mics are a bad test

  • Yea a grand??? No thanks, JCM 2000-$600, Bugera 333XL-$600, lil practice amp for $1,000?? I'll pass

  • No way Im totally going for the Orange micro terror with the 8 inch cab FTW

  • I bet that sounds fcking amazing live, I can tell it sounds great in person, the mic did not pick up the full sound, but I can tell it is killer, all the messa amps sound amazing, that guitarist is shit hot as well

  • Changing the wattage doesn't change the sound, it just makes it able to be a bit louder when cranked

  • the MIC sounds terrible for a demo...cant tell much difference in the 10/25 watt clean side

  • @WyldeMagiK .. i have this amp, and there isn't much difference between 10/25 on clean. The only setting that is clearly different is the channel 2 modern 10w vs 25w. 10 is warm and a great lead tone, while 25 is pure heavy metal.

  • I don't know why, but I've been trying to get into Mesas for a few years now, always trying them out a guitar center and stuff. I prefer a tight low end sound, and couldn't seem to get a tight, non woofy low end out of the dual, single, and triple recs. But when I played the mini version (this one) I was in love with it. How does that make any sense if it's the exact circuit for the most part of the legit rectifiers?

  • @dsnj1992 Its the same circuit but lower wattage. This means you get the natural tube distortion and a lower volume. the "tight" bottom end you speak of is 6L6 tube distortion. This is for guys like me who own a mesa Triple rec at 150 Watts who cannot practice without our ears bleeding... This would also be great for a recording studio and would probably fair well in a live setting with your cab mic'd into a PA

  • Who was playing on the demo? Some nice shred chops there!

  • @brentmann that's one of our teachers, Erin Carey!

  • dude, tune that thing. next.

  • Tom Petty playing in the background

  • @SicilyJoel cant be mesa, marshall is close and orange isn't even on the same playing field

  • yes it is a bit expensive, but it is handmade in the USA. Also, it isn't trying to compete with the dual rec. Its a 25 watt amp for people who wanna push their tubes. Most people will never be able to push the tubes of a dual rec even on a pretty big stage. Different amps for different niches...

  • The speaker at the beginning sounds like Chris Adler from Lamb of God :D

  • Almost sounds like an amplified v-twin...

  • is this loud enough for a small school talent show without cabinet?

  • @yamahabmxer1 or a small pub?

  • @yamahabmxer1 you need a cab to play it.

  • @yamahabmxer1 without the cabinet you won't have any sound...

  • i would rather buy the h&k tubemeister 18 for 699

  • quit being so greedy and lower the price MESA!!!!

  • Nice piece, but retail price in germany is about 1660 $ uncounted from 1250 €. And that is UTTERLY farcical....

  • Awesome playing, man. You should do eLessons or something. I would sign up.

  • @macbean79 that is a good idea, we will look into some e-Lessons with Erin!

  • Great vid, but the real question is this or the orange dark terror for modern metal tones?

  • Why doesnt the diamond plate match the size , that looks hoakey its ready for a mod right out of the box.

  • Boogie is going to price themselves right out of the market. Most 25 watters are going for $500-$600. Somehow they want a grand for this? The Boogie Recto tone was awesome in the 90's, but most people have moved on.

  • Un Tiny Terror HW Made in UK est encore moins cher

  • i love all these new mini low watt heads. makes playing at home alot easier. but i agree this is over priced. this and the prs models. but ill prob end up owning both.

  • I will never buy it at that price!!

  • No 16-ohm output??? wth.....Why not??

  • Is the amp "Pedal Friendly",as far as using distortion pedals on the clean channel,or overdrive pedals on the crunch and distortion channels? There are times when I would like to leave the distorion pedals home, and would like to know if you can get Harder Edged Classic Rock tones,or '80's "Hair Metal" distortion tones, that are not so "Mid Scooped"? Thanks.

  • @turbinexman

if you dont want mid-scooped sounds -> dont scoop the mids

  • @Riotstarter100 I talked to one of the sales reps at Mesa Boogie, and he said that the EL-84 power tubes will bring out the mids, more than the 6L6's,in the full sized Recto's.The full sized Recto's have more of a mid scooped sound because of 6L6 power tubes, because EL-34's have more mids, especially the JJ E34L.I still would like to A/B the Mini Recto and the TA 30.Thanks.

  • @turbinexman it is very pedal friendly. We tried it out with a Suhr Riot pedal on the clean channel as well as an Ibanez tube screamer on the OD channel. Great results with both!

  • just wait a year; it'll be on craigslist for 500-

but dont knock Mesa, it'll smash your peavey any day of the week

    Engl is awesome though

  • i don't like those mesa amps... just don't fit my taste... ENGL for the win though

  • BTW - When s Mesa Boogie going to finally get around to offering the mini amps as combos? They're the only amps they make that you can't get as a combo.

  • 1st came the TA-15. Now they come out with a Mini Rectifier. I'm sure glad that I didn't jump on either of these as a Mini Mark can must be on the way.

  • mesa is a bit over rated, i rather pay 1000 buying the 5150 iii micro which has 50w.

  • @darren0512341 Hate to disappoint you but the 5150 III 50 watt isnt a "micro"

it's just a short box about the size of a mesa mark 4 or 5 Electradyne etc etc.

EVH gear called it mini at one point but it's never been reffered to as a micro head.

  • @bornburied i've been thinking, for $1000, I rather getting the eleven rack, and a tech 21 60 w amp.

    fuck boogie's price tag.

  • the idea its great, the price its stupid!

  • this shit is expensive i don't like that. sorry

  • This demo is fucking horrible. Video goes to shit at 2:30 when your fucking retard guitar player starts wanking nonsense that nobody gives a shit to hear.

  • Overpriced amp is overpriced

  • for that i can get a brand new peavey 6505. that is just insane

  • i will say this thing was the best mesa iv ever play'ed got to open it up and it sound really great. usually i hate mesa and think they sound thin with a bunch of sub bass which mud's the tone up, but this had the best sound from any mesa iv ever played.

  • @vampreen12356 it is one of our favorite amps opened up as well. those EL84's shine when you get to let it rip!

  • like all the other boogies over priced & they seem to always sound fuzzy or thin? Would like to see the new hughes n kettner compared to this

  • drive pretty good, clean suck

  • Fuckin stupid price should be about 600-700. Plus this asshole cant play for shit.

  • this is stupid price, i go for it if it is 500-600

  • @minhmeoquay its a mesa dude, try to find a product of theirs that isnt expensive

  • $1000? You can get a used Dual Rec for that price

  • @sbrave dual recto is 1900$ plus tax so no, this is almost half that price and able to drop to a lower wattage

  • @heber810

He talked about used and I'm pretty sure you don't have to pay taxes for used stuff.

  • @sbrave Get ready for a chock, here in Denmark its about 2000$

  • @sbrave And a used dual rec for 1000$? Holy... I'd take this for 1000 as new or even better, the dual. a dual here cost like 3000$ new and 23-2700$ used.. I never really understood why americans complain xD

  • @sbrave so what? this is the real deal, same circuit as its brother but at more gig-friendly volumes. you can crank the tubes!

  • @MyLifeChanger Still not worth $1,000. I know Mesa's have never been cheap. Would like to hear it in person tho.

  • @sbrave i know which one i'd rather carry around...

  • BEST Rectifier to date! Perfect for club and bar gigs.

  • damn they sound good..

  • high gain sounded a bit mushy to me

  • I got mine 2 days ago and it sound amazing. The videos I've seen sound good, but sounds way better in person. It has a good feel in the 10w vintage mode. Dime the gain in the pushed mode 25w, and you're in crunch city. The amp is very dynamic and cleans up very nicely when rolling the volume off the guitar. It has more than enough gain and it can get pretty loud. I know rectos are known for the gain channels, but the clean channels is surprisingly very good I come from playing Marks series.

  • @pegagos it sounds better in person for sure. we just did this one quick, no outboard gear, just to show something! we are glad to hear you're enjoying yours!

  • Cool.

  • Awesome amp, awesome vendor. Thanks for the vids, Matt!

  • @noodlesatf thanks for watching!

  • This is a godsend for any guitarist who has to run to subway gigs.!

  • That is amazing.

  • Incredible! Very good demo. The rectifier sound is in there. I think a GSP 1101 using the 4 cable method will make a perfect companion. I have EMGs in my axe which should yield even more gain (as if it was even necessary)!

  • @roydan the demo was just OK it didnt really go in depth at all.

switching to the to the lower watt modes is best apprecited with the amp wide open.

Guitar player was kick ass though!

Using a Bogner 4x12 instead of some stupid 1x12 demonstarted some intelligence.

  • @bornburied

I know...just giving props to them for putting up one of the better videos of the mini recto.

I'm planning on running it through a Lopo 2x12 diagonal cab with V30s. But instead of a GSP1101 I'm thinking of using a G Major 2 (decent effects and channel switching relay). Then building a consolidated rack/amp cabinet to house it all.

  • @roydan It ain't that much better than whats out there--and after all they are trying sell it.

"incredible" is not an adjective I would have used.

Have you tried the JCA 22 yet? Dual channel , effects loop, it's circuit is the Soldano Hot Rod which is essentially the SLO Sounds delicious.Costs almost 2/3 LESS than the Mesa (the DR circuit is based off Soldano)

Made China in but the build quality is fine.

  • @bornburied

Thanks for the suggestion on the JCA22. I'll try to check one out next time I'm at GC. I've had a recto and after years of playing with GSP this and POD that I'm done! Whatever I buy it better satisfy my need for tone and let me get back to, um, playing. :)

The extra $300~$400 isn't as important to me as the assurance I'll get the tone I'm looking for and knowing it's made in the USA...no brainer for me. It'll probably stay in 10W mode. 25W seems too ambitious for just 2 EL-84's.

  • @roydan Yep can't argue with a USA made product especialy when Mesa/Boogie is the company.

BTW it's an extra $500 minimal thats why I said it's "almost" 2/3'ds less (@$600)

You could buy a used DR for the same money.Though it's not as handy or cute as the mini...

  • @bornburied With the extra $500 you're getting 2 fully independent channels with separate EQs, two distinct modes on each channel and on top of that two wattage options with different wirings (triode/pentode) built in the USA. So thats 8 voicings on this mini amp. The only other mini amp that offers this many options is the Carvin V3m @ $600. I think the JCA22h is a quality amp and I considered getting it, but the extra options of the mesa is what drove my decision.

  • @pegagos While I like independant EQ's and lot o' options too, *TONE is the fundamental drive for me.With the extra 500 bucks I can buy another amp! I think the amp sounds good (there are now some better vids now) but $799 would be the right price for this product.

I want a mini Electradyne and Mark V-stripped down of course.

*to people reading this,if you think I was implying the Mesa doesn't have good tone please re read for basic comprehension.

  • @bornburied I agree. Lots of options is not for everyone and the Mesa tone is not for everyone either. Tone is very subjective and it pretty much boils down to preference. I've been playing the mesa amps for years because that's the sounds I like. You know... that Mesa tone and feel. I know several people that dislike it. $799 would have been nicer than $999 for sure. But everyone knows that if Mesa is what you want, then you have to pay more for it. A mini Mark would be cool too.

  • @pegagos That Mesa tone and feel? A Mark series amps sounds responds very differently to the Rectifier. As they should considering the circuits are very different.

Having said that, I would say that the crunch/lead channels in the Nomad, Dual Calibre, F- series Trans Atlantic have what I call the "generic Mesa sound." I never got on with those amps though the F-50 was arguably the best of the bunch.

The Stiletto and Electrodyne allowed Mesa to escape that somewhat.

  • @bornburied I always felt that Mesa amps, although different circuits and sounds, always had that thing that made them sound like a Mesa and not a Marshall, Fender, Orange, etc. I don't know what it is, but to me it's there. Maybe it's just in my head. I've played a dc-5, SOB, mkIII, mkIV, dual recto, express and now the mini recto.

  • @pegagos Mesa has stayed away until recently from the high-mid voicing that is typical of most marshalls the peavey ultra/xxx/JSX also are like that so they sound smoother than marshalls and what the British refer to as the American tone (besides Fenders)

When Mesa created the Dual Rectifier line of amps (inspired from Mike Soldano's SLO circuit which is a modified marshall circuit) they created a new voice as to not tread into the Marshall signature sound. That voice has a harsh high end.

  • @bornburied interesting

  • @roydan it does seem ambitious for just 2 EL-84, but it will make complete sense when you play it. I did play mostly in the 10w mode at home with my 2x12 vertical recto cab. I plan to take it to band practice this Friday and crank it up in 25w and see how it holds up with a full band.

  • @bornburied have you played it yet?

  • @pegagos My local supplier hasn't got them yet. I've owned a original Dual Rectifier over 10 years ago and have played/used all the variations since.

Why? Did you find God when you played yours? Well good for you!

  • @bornburied I found god way before I played the amp. lol. I was just asking to see if you were basing your opinions on the videos or you actually heard it in person.

  • @pegagos Basing what opinion? Somebody making a video has nothing to do with the actual tone of the amp. It's quite clear i didn't think the video was "incredible" as was described by the other person.I said it wasn't very in depth and not well executed. I didn't say anything like the amp itself "sounds like crap" and/or "I've seen all the videos and I've concluded the amp sux" not even close. You read something that doesn't exsist.

    Why?

  • @bornburied I think the other person described the amp as "incredible" not the video itself. But anyways. I thought that when you said that "It ain't that much better than whats out there--and after all they are trying sell it" you were talking about the amp and I just wanted to know if you already played it. That's all. I didn't say you say that the amp sounds like crap. My only response to you was that the extra $ on the mini recto brings extra features when compared to other mini amps.

  • @pegagos But asking me if i played it of course is a leading question which you now admit was inspired by you thinking that i was addressing the amps sound...so.... :P

yes we already covered the $/feature aspect.

    : )

  • @bornburied we are trying to sell it, yes but we just put the video up as a quick sample of the amp. we are gear nerds over here and wanted to get something out there to show the basics of it! thanks for watching!

  • @roydan thank you! it is a cool amp and we just wanted to give a quick demo to show it off. thanks for watching!
