  • "Lessons" is such a stinking good episode. That "Frere Jacques" duet is gorgeous. When she comes in with those lovely chords under his improvising, it's really moving.

  • The end solo is one of my favorites. I enjoy playing it myself.

  • This was a great video, thanks for posting

  • those are not Picards hands

  • Anybody know what that piano solo is at the end?

  • @majnemesis Chopin - Prelude in E minor Op. 28 no. 4

  • am i the only one who finds geordi's singing kind of...well...laughable? don't get me wrong, i think he's good, but i can't help but laugh when i think of him singing

  • I am the very model of a scientist Salarian, I study species Turian, Asari, and Batarian! :D

  • @leeron111 mass effect?

  • @leeron111 LOL!! you just made my wonderful day even better!!

  • @DigDugMaster I also saw in a special about Paramount auctionining off Star Trek items, of which the flute was one, is that the actual propr wasn't even a real flute, didn't make any sounds.

  • phew Georgi is a horrible singer LOL

  • @DigDugMaster you might be able to convince a Tin Smith to make one for you.

  • its a tin wistle I own one and have played it like this

  • it's a C-scale Irish Tin Whistle. and it's awesome. thanx for the true post, all the others are covers by hacks

  • The kid on Masterpiece Society looks like Josh Hutcherson...

  • yes he hit it

  • I can't remember but did Picard ever hit that?

  • escucharon alguna vez alguna pieza clasica o de jazz o de blues en star wars?,, jaja star trek forever

  • What is the name of the piece that appears in Star Trek Music 2 from 1:24 to 1:32 between Picard and Neela. i know I have heard it before. Composer?

  • brandenburg concerto no.3 in g major

  • Thank you!!!

  • I believe it was a form of the old Irish tune Sky Boat Song.

  • What is the name of the song from masterpiece society? I adore it!

  • Frédéric Chopin.

Prélude in E Minor, Opus 28, No.4! I too adore it!

  • Bella questa carrellata di momenti musicali di Star Trek TNG! :D

  • Picard's duet with commander whats-her-name made me want to learn to play an instrument.

  • Cmdr Darren..

Me too.. Sadly you can not sing when you play flute or clarinet or at least not at the same time.. :)

  • Me too! Totally... it never happened, but I absolutely loved their duet.

  • Picard's one bad mutha with that flute! XD

  • too bad patrick stewart is not really playing this - that tin whistle is solid brass

  • i read somewhere that it actually is him playing but i don't know that for sure

  • he tried to learn - he couldn't get it right. he did not play it.

  • The whistle seen in the episode was a penny whistle, & Patrick Stewart actually learned to play the "Flute Song" on it. The one they sold was a prop replica, Stewart kept the actual whistle.

  • the whistle was played by

Brice Martin, and in the other the whistle duties were shared by Brice and Fred himself. It is Fred's recollection that in the episode in which Brice did all the playing, it was actually played on a whistle, but in the episode in which they played together, they used both whistles and recorders....

he confirmed that he was the whistle player on both episodes but not in the spots in which Patrick Stewart appears to play on camera).

  • go to chiffandfipple, the main whistle players site. there is an entire write up on this very subject.

  • very nice

  • Spelndid, marvellous, wunderful --- 1:03 "Lessons". ^-^ *dreaming* Jean-Luc and Neela get lots of fun. ;D

  • I love the "Frère Jacques" improvisation in "Lessons"!!!

  • boy.. to say they upped the notch on that song is an understatement.. I love when the bass shows up and in octave form... so good..

  • that part is my fav as well. love

  • =) you made my night haha

  • its funny how at 2:31 you can tell that those are someone elses hands on the flute

  • haha, true, i never noticed it till now! lol!

  • I want to see the captain, jethro tull, and the second doctor who jam out.

  • That tune from The Inner Light always chokes me up now (along with that clip you chose from it)... probably the most moving TNG episode, IMO (major props to Patrick for an amazing performance!). I also loved the apt episode title for Geordi's Major General attempt... :)

  • that prop sold for 10000 dollars and it doesn't even play.

  • I know it started at $4000 but I believe it went for $20000

  • In the Star Trek universe it is best known as a Ressikan Flute, otherwise it's just a remade Tin-whistle.

  • I watched The Inner Light today on TV. It's not bad, not bad at all...

Could you think something with Borg called Hugh or Three of Nine?

  • Iborg

  • Very nice, bravo!

  • Well thank you :D

  • Great, simply great video :) Especially The Inner Light song, its beautiful, especially the full orchestral version

  • How come noone plays the guitar, drums, bass in star trek? it's either flutes, trumpets and violins... don't they like rock music? dammit... and that synthahol they drink, it must be crap... what happened to Jack Daniels???

  • Not only that, they run for recreation... for fun! Run for FUN?! What a future! :(

  • Do you know what the piano piece at the end is? It sounds great!

  • It is composed by Frédéric Chopin.

    Prélude in E Minor, Opus 28, No.4!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! I've been looking everywhere for the name of this song

  • It may just be a fancy Frero Jaque but that excerpt from 'lessons' gives me a shiver everytime i hear it...if only there was an mp3 of it :)

  • True.
