@StrangeQuarkStar HEY im just saying it sounds like a cheep vst and its the worst ever analog modeling synth ive ever used it would be better and cheaper to get say a novation super nova rack or something (sold my micro korg after about 2 weeks of trying to make good sounds )
@09fod You obviously are just a noob who doesn't know how to program a synth. If you know anything about patching you can make this sound great. The presets suck. This is true. But if you can't make it sound good then you are not using it correctly. Wish I had a camera so I could post some of my patches. also, because I own a microkorg, should I go on shitty casio keyboard videos and tell them that their keyboard sucks because it isn't the synth I own or like. haha
Awesome synthesis! I did not know the MicroKorg could sound so good! I've only played with the factory patches and they sound nothing close to this quality. I wonder if a sound this nice is possible on the R3
This is a tutorial is a truer sense than most-- you actually explain what each step does-- thanks so much, I just bought my microKORG and this really helps me to learn synthesis. And I love Vangelis! Thanks again XD
When I first got my microKORG was looking everywhere for tutorials, to get started in synthesis Didn't find enough! So I created this one to offer some help to people in my former situation, keeping in mind what I have been looking for
Now I actually find this tutorial quite lacking, and the end result not really satisfactory, but if you keep practicing, you will soon surpass this with ease ;)
Oh, if you use last fm please join the microKORG fan group I just made-- I have zero members at the moment :( I am going to post a link to this video, if you don't mind?
can you give me the notes for the Blade runner theme since I would like to try it out on my MicroKorg I can get about half way through but can fiqure the rest out. Thanks for the patch
Great tutorial showing that the Microkorg can do a good job of emulating classic synth sounds. I'd also suggest you set the eg reset to off to retain a more analog feel. To get an even more CS80 sound. On patch 4. Use Vel patched to the cutoff. May add a bit of vibrato (about 2)
Great tutorial, I love Vangelis, have most of the vinyl-Spiral, etcetera. I recently obtained a Korg MS2000B I use with my Juno106 and Polysix. I love my old analog stuff, but the MS2K does do some really good emulation and I love the features. I'd love to have a micro, same engine and nice and handy to tote around. I love reverb as well, I run my synths through an old WEM Watkins tape echo a lot, adds a nice lush, wet, slapback. Well done, hope to see more :), Take care and Happy Holidays!
I 'played' it by recording the repeating notes through midi (using Garage Band), then routing the recorded notes back to the synthesizer. So it's like having additional hands that can play lots of octaves :D
Vangelis must be proud of you! Congratulations for your work and thanks for posting the video! Hugs from Pelotas-Brazil.

I actually think that VSTs sound better than the microkorg. I own a microkorg and i use it as a midi controller keyboard.

sounds plastic fantastic micro korg = vst

Good call, Sherlock!
Oh, wait, no.
It's an analog modeling synthesizer, not Steinberg's Virtual Studio Interface.

@09fod OK, I don't know what a "cheep" VST sounds like, or any VST for that matter 'cause I don't use my computer for music.
I like the microKORG for its interface (can't beat the arpeggiator buttons), small size and great looks. Also its sounds, yes.
If I want really "good sounds" (not that the KORG sounds bad) I use my Prophet '08.
There is always something better sounding; do you post your derisive comments on every video with synthesizers that sound inferior to you?

@StrangeQuarkStar i am sorry i don't want to get in to an argument everyone has there personal opinion...

The most retro thing in this video is the tape player in the background :)

Wow sounds the same on the Korg R3. This effect of detuned OSC2 to pitchbend is great.
For the R3 users, do these changes:
patch 3
source3 pitch
dest3 osc2 tune
p.int3 +22
LFO2 freq 3.75 Hz
filter1-a cutoff1 35
And add some reverb to add Greek atmosphere :-)
yarosystems 11 months ago 2
Great stuff. Needs reverb to kill the raspiness.

@Quenson
I found that much harder to replicate, but got an approximation on Prophet '08; maybe I'll do a tutorial on that one, too.
It's all in the envelopes!

If you can do it with a CS 80 you can do it with any synth since anyone has those parameters.

could you tell me if the microkorg can also do the end titles sound? would love to have that as well.
thanks!

2 bad it's just 4 voice
XL is 8 voice but it somehow doesn't feel like microkorg anymore . WHERE ARE ALL THE KNOBS? lolz
VIPKYD 2 years ago
Yes!!
And where are the illuminated buttons for the arpeggiator??
I'll stick with the original microKORG...
StrangeQuarkStar 2 years ago
I'd get an R3 Though :-)
Much more microkorg than the XL
and the XL always uses the Radias engine, there's actually a patch for the R3 to use the MS2000/MK engine :-)
