  • my arse cliff burton is revolutionary!

  • LOOKN AT THE WHO. THEY HAVE BASE SOLOS ON "MY GENERATION". LISTEN TO THAT. oops caps.

  • the only thing sucks in the cliff bass solo its the drumming style of lars... you suck lars!

  • @monjombe yup

  • if you're going to include Marcus Miller why not Stanley Clark?

  • @tossflycoon hells yes!!

  • You should check out some Jaco Pastorius videos. He played for Weather Report and he's my personal favorite.

  • Mark King Level 42

  • would of been cool to see Pino in here, he is badass!

  • have you seen Evan brewer?

  • peter hook.

  • victor wooten!!!

  • I note that "Jerry Was A Racecar Driver" is virtually a note perfect ripoff of "Elephant Talk" by King Crimson. I am not saying Les Claypool is not a fine bassist, but you are using his ripoff of (in my opinion) a better bassist, Bill Bruford, whom you do not honor. And the fact that you omit Jaco Pastorious is troubling also.

  • @Scarbo09 you are thinking of Tony Levin as the bass player for King Crimson (Bill Bruford is the drummer) and he was actually using the Chapman stick on that song ... and yes, he and Jaco should be included here (as well as Stanley Clarke)

  • @Metron64 You are correct Metron; I was having a brain cramp. I am also aware of Levin's use of The Stick but I continue to think of him primarily as a bass player. I also agree about Stanley Clarke, whom I have seen in concert several times including last August when he played in Salt Lake with "Return to Forever.". I also saw Jaco with "Weather Report" many moons ago. He was wearing orange and red silk pajamas and during a solo he beat his P-Bass with his guitar strap.

  • where's Justin Chancellor from Tool?!?

  • y is Flea last!!!!???

  • jonh entwistle? JACO!?. c'mon man!

  • It's a video containing his own influences, not yours. Stop bitching and read the description.

  • You got Cliff Burton but not Jaco Pastorius???

  • @onerom666111666 my thoughts exactly. joke of a list

  • steve harris and paul gray!!!!!!

  • @mrtumgum How did paul gray revolutionize bass?

  • WHAT ABOUT JACO????

  • Influenced HIS OWN playing. Geez people, read a little. Not a bad group to take influences from, for sure.

  • Cliff Burton is not revolutionized the bass ... It's just a bass player.

  • I can't believe you started well, with Cliff Lee Burton, but you started to get more with jazz bassists, and not Rock N'Roll and Metal ones. I do think that people have to make more specifics list of bassists. And more, in a Metal list or even in a Music List, Steve Harris is at least between the five firsts.

  • BUT WHERE ARE Domenico Citriniti AND Tony Levin????

  • where the hell is Stuu hamm?

  • Revolutionnary.. Bassist of have put some new things in bass playing,

    So :

    - Stanley Clarke

    - Larry Graham

    - Victor Wooten, with at least 3 or 4 unique technique he made.

Cliff burton in all this ?

    A piece of shit.

  • Where the Hell is John Entwistle???

  • People! Read the blasted description!

  • Glaring miss... Tony Levin

  • How is cliff burton above les claypool?

  • Where is Stanley Clarke? Or John Wetton? Or Greg Lake? Or Verdine White?

  • @monkspank65 or Mark King!?!

  • Jean Baudin

    Gary Willis

  • I know this was your opinion.. But if you have to call the title "Revolutionary Bassists" for fuck sake include Jaco Pastorius. "This bass players use to stay behind - That sure changed when Jaco played Donna Lee"

  • ma a parte tutti i vostri cazzo di bassisti preferiti che pensate siano stati importanti dovè jaco pastorius??????senza di lui nessuno di questi bassisti sarebbe esistito, lui è il vero bassista rivoluzionario.

  • fuck you bassman094

  • Where is Wojtek Pilichowski!? Gdzie jest Wojtek Pilichowski!?

  • This is subjective, they play differrant styles of music. It's like you compared an ombrella and a raincoat. Not the same thing but saim utility.

  • WTH man. Cliff burton on no.1 and victor wooten is in the 4th while marcus at the 2nd? Jesus Christ.

  • good list man - i would add some and maybe remove 1 or 2 of those. but all talented dudes!

  • 2 and 4 are my favorite bassists of the group. Jaco Pastorius is another great bassist.

  • O gosto desse cara demonstra o tanto que ele nao saca nada!

cade Jaco, Patitucci, Nico Assumpcao, alain caron, wooten??

  • @aessim cara o flea é sempre melhor

  • where is jackoff

  • Steve??

  • and you forgot mark king from level 42!

  • I ADMIT MARCUS IS IN THE REVOLUTION ... THE POSTER NEVER HEARD WHAT A REVOLUTIONARY BASSIST IS .... OMG ...

    YOU FORGOT JACO DUDE

  • Where's Alastair Boon?

  • Jaco? Mcartney? John paul jones?

    bleehhh

  • fair enough! I would have put Jaco and Steve Harris as well

  • Jaco suddenly disapeared from this list, or what other disaster happened, that he's not here?

  • There are a lot of great players out there. Was Jack Bruce especially innovative or influential?

  • WHERE THE HELL IS CHUCK NORRIS ?

  • @fca5 Yeah Chuck is on every list.

  • Victor Wooten is so epic he makes me want to hang myself for being so awesome

  • John Myung is missing

  • Could have picked plenty of better RHCP songs to show Flea's skills.

This list needs some Billy Sheehan for sure

Also Geezer Butler, John Entwistle and Steve Harris

  • Great list- as a fellow bassist who shares most of those influences (my fretless is signed by Claypool, Wooten and Chris Wood of MMW), I am recommending you look up Consider the Source - Do Not Shrink Me Gypsy - live here on YouTube. The bass solo/lead from about 9 min. in til about 12 min. is mind blowing! I promise you'll thank me!

  • Everyone forgets James Jamerson

  • Craig Cowley?!

  • enough with Jaco!!!!!

  • You should have selected another song of Geddy Lee, Red Barchetta or YYZ, Tom Sawyer is one of the easiest, and you forgot of John Entwistleone an of the greatest exponents of the bass and rock

  • where the hell is STEVE HARRIS?????!!!!!!!

  • @Iron12Maiden34 fuck yeah, that´s a revolutionary bassist.

  • @Iron12Maiden34 Well maybe steve hariris didn't influence him...Read desription

  • @Iron12Maiden34 Steve Harris and all those rocker tryhards are shit. sorry, but listen to some proper good bassists

  • @Iron12Maiden34 Gonna assume old Stevie boy didn't influence the dude's own playing...

  • well, i suppose people should be watching this not for saying who has been missed, but for finding out someone else's inspirations, thats interesting at all ;)

  • typical

  • You left out Jaco, excellent, I don't like him at all.

  • Suprised that Billy Sheehan didn't make that list.

  • this is gay

  • Revolutionary bassists from a ten year old´s perspective.

Nah, just kiddin´. Even though you didnt include Jaco, Ryan Martinie(wich u should if modern bassists count) or Entwistle. I´t were quite a solid list

  • where is shavo odadjian ???

  • Where's Jaco? And where's Alain Caron? Ray Brown?

  • I stopped watching after the top rated comment told me that Jaco wasn't included.

  • I don't see TREVOR BOLDER and JHON GUSTAFSON...but even Mel Schacher, Mo foster, Louis Cennamo and some other...

  • when you use the term revolutionary bassist mr. james jamerson should lead that list one the most prolific yet underrated bassist ever transitioning bass from the upright to the fender electric as we now know it.

  • @mrbrownbear3 He said HIS OWN playing. Not yours. Everyone has a varying opinion. I, for one, find Flea and Claypool at the top of my list of influential/revolutionary bassists. All music is a matter of opinion, there is no wrong.

  • This is in my opinion. Cliff Burton is the most over-rated bassist of all time. His bass playing may sound cool, but do you know what else it sounds like? A fucking guitar! What's the fucking point in that?!

  • @Mr2010Jamie but les claypool plays his bass to sound like a guitar a lot, and i DONT THINK YOU WOULD HAVE A PROBLEM WITH LES BECAUSE HE IS FUCKING GOD

  • @Mr2010Jamie I agree with you 100%

  • @Mr2010Jamie I will go further and say he was fucking shit but in a band that a lot of people like. This list is a fuckin joke full stop. Charles Mingus/James Jameson/Tony Levin/ Jaco Pastorius/Larry Graham/Stuart Zender/Bernard Edwards/Billy Sheehan/John Pattitucci/Chris Squire I will give him that and Marcus Miller that's more like revolutionary yet another rock blinkered fool showing he knows fuck all.

  • @canvoodoo I'm fine with the list apart from Burton. Might as well add to your list; John Entwistle/Jack Bruce/Paul McCartney/Louis Johnson/Anthony Jackson/Chuck Rainey/John Paul Jones/Donald Dunn/Bob Babbitt/John Deacon

  • @Mr2010Jamie THAATS WHAAAT IIIVE BEEEN SAAAAYYYING!!!! Victor Wooten anyone?

  • @Mr2010Jamie one word. Lemmy.

  • @beckyhetfield Lemmy? Are you serious?

  • @Mr2010Jamie It ia fucking guitar; a BASS GUITAR ! He played what he heard, why so closed minded ? It sounded great, wtf do you care if he used all the frets on there ? These notes are available, what's the problem with playing them ? The early music did not lack "low end" or anything, so get off the high horse, bro. I mean no disrepect.

  • @8stringsinner It's cool man, you're entitled to your opinion, just as I'm entitled to mine. I don't have aproblem with him using the high frets, that's fine. My problem is that intentionally went out of his way to make it sound like a guitar. I mean when you hear high bass notes on songs, you can still tell it's bass. You can't with Metallica.

  • @Mr2010Jamie Couldn't agree more!

  • @Mr2010Jamie that was kind of the point. i dont think it was to sound like a guitar, but to turn the bass more into a lead instrument and take it more into the spotlight. it doesnt mean that he didnt play his bass parts when he had to. i agree that he may be overhyped, but i dont think hes over rated. he made his fair contribution to the genre.

  • @Mr2010Jamie and he cant play for shite. i mean u listen to marcus miller, stan clarke, victor wooten, flea, mark king and jaco pastorius and u just know how crap those other rockheads are

  • @xD4RKxASSASSiiN Lol.... You're putting Flea in the same basket as Jaco... LoL.

  • @tomalophicon flea did add a new feeling to the bass, not as revolutionary as jaco, but still..

  • WHERE IS STANLEY CLARKE!?! HE IS THE MOST REVOLUTIONARY AND THE BEST OF ALL TIME!

  • @Mr2010Jamie lol man, he's the only guy who makes bass sound like a guitar.

Its amazing, different from the other ones.

  • @Mr2010Jamie true

  • There's also Ryan Martinie,

  • wtf...I know this is said alot but jaco is certainly a revolutionary bassist. He pretty much made his own instrument with the fretless bass.

  • I just miss Jaco Pastorius and Paul McCartney... But these are really good

  • dios esque para mi flea es el mejor en su estilo

  • No Steve Harris?? For shame!

  • R I P cliff

  • HELLO! JOHN ENTWISTLE of THE WHO. First rock bass solo

  • All good bassists...and I note by your comment that you don't wanna hear my opinion...but i can't help myself so here goes. There is no way Les Claypool is better than Victor Wooten...for one Wooten can follow, but Claypool must ALWAYS be followed...following is hard work and requires a good ear and knowledge of theory. Any video entitled "Revolutionary Bassists" MUST include Larry Graham - the dude who invented slap bass. Cliff Burton should easily be replaced with Billy Sheehan.

  • VICTOR WOOTEN IS THE BEST BASS PLAYER EVER

  • Cliff <3 <3 <3

  • where is the god Jaco Pastorius ?? O,o or Mark KiNG ....jAMES jAMERSON

  • does anybody know what bass flea is using in the last picture? :)

  • @JTwhitey31 Yes, It's his signature Modulus - the Modulus Flea Bass

  • @KillerFridge Thank's i think flea uses some of the nicest looking basses, especially in the music video for the adventures of raindance... yet again i cannot tell what it is

  • @JTwhitey31 I believe he is using a FleaBass TouringBass - I personally preferred the Jazz Bass from the Tell Me Baby video.

  • seriously? cliff fucking burton, are you fucking kidding me? just because he used distortion and a wah on two metallica songs?

  • @megatallica999 He used than more than two songs -.-

    (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth,

    Seek And Destroy,

    Creeping Death,

    For Whom The Bell Tolls

    The Call Of Ktulu

    Orion ....

  • @lumpster96 so that makes him revolutionary?! i think not

  • @megatallica999 so i assume your not a metallica fan megaTALLICA?

  • @mrsatanicbassist oh no, dont get me wrong because i am, i just dont think cliff was revolutionary at all. i dont think very many famous bassists say that one of their main influences was cliff because he could solo and stuff occasionaly but he was very exluded in the music, it was more about the guitars for them.

  • @megatallica999 na cliff did revolutionize. you got his style wrong. it was a LEAD bass not a distorted sound. look at lemmy fucking kilmister he was all about that shit and hes a huge influence. which idk why he was left out! cliffs role paved the way for allot of bassist. and just cause they arent famous doesnt mean he didnt influence. allot of kids i know are. metalheads to punks to jazz musican even guitarists. he does deserve to be considered revolutionary and LEMMY!!!

  • @mrsatanicbassist i understand lemmy because he came before cliff, but i don't think that cliff was heard enough or really different enough to be revolutionary.

  • I have 4 really big bass guitarist influences-1. Krist Novoselic-Nirvana

    2. Flea-RHCP

    3. Mike Dirnt-Green Day

    4. Paul McCartney-The Beatles

  • @pigfarts992

    alex webster - cannibal corpse

ics vortex - former dimmu borgir

    geddy lee - rush

    lemmy killmister - motorhead

  • @megatallica999 cliff is why allot of bassists use distortion. like really heavy ammounts. its your opinion though. im sure some doesnt think flea should be in it. who your influenced by and is revolutionary to you really depends on what music you listen too. i dont expect a jazz bassist to think frank bello is revolutionary. its personal taste. i personaly think cliff was a HUGE impact on bassists everywhere

  • it's a shame you can vote once only :-)

  • great video but where the heck is Tool's Justin Chancellor?

  • Cool dude! I love this.

  • Jaco's too good for them.

  • I love this list, and everyone has had a major impact on how the bass is percieved and intergrated into modern music. Might I suggest giving Tony Franklin a listen to? He helped me define my own personal style many years ago and definately worth a check-out.

  • solo era un loco ese riff burton pura bulla

    escuchen a marcuss miller

  • What about Billy Sheehan?

  • Just my two cents here: Cliff Burton was a confused guitar player. He didn't really bring anything to the table. Too much high end, not enough low end.

  • @spicyMcHAGGIS9green I agree 110% it sounded like a lot of noise...I'm sure he could shred like crazy on a guitar though

  • @spicyMcHAGGIS9green he WAS metallica. look at them now.

  • @LaterzMcGhee I meant as a bassist. Metallica would never have been Metallica without him. God damn shame he died, really.

  • having that title and not include Jaco just feels wrong imo =/

  • I agree all others for my own opinion exept Cliff.

  • R.I.P Cliff Burton. He is the best of all times.

  • STEVE HARRIS?!

  • Of all these masters of the trade that I respect and have learned so much, Les is my main man. The man had balls enough to come on the scene in the late 80's (I was a teen) with unique sound that no one at that time understood. This is the same spirit that James Marshall Hendrix introduced in the 60's on guitar.

  • Only me who thinks that FLEA (also called rooney or balzary) is the best bassplayer of all time ?

  • @ThePsych0Logical Yes, only you. He's really good though :)

  • @ThePsych0Logical not only you, hes my main inspiration

  • how to download that

  • vic vic vic vic vic vic vic is the best there is the best there was and the best there ever will b!!!!!

  • WMG eat the shit from Satan's asshole!

  • Why does every body forget scott ambush??

  • and john entwistle the bassit millenium?

  • mr pastorius weather report??you forgot the father

  • Where is Jaco?

  • i bet u dont know that les claypool (most creative musician of all time) tried out for metallica and he didnt make it in the band because he was TOO GOOD they didnt want him to be a spectacle and make the rest of the band look worse. METALLICA SUX (same with Primus)

  • @ytrewqmuffins anyone who saw the Metallica behind the music knew that ;)

  • Fuck WMG!

  • it was very wise to put in chris squire, geddy lee, and marcus miller. im not pleased with the fact that jaco isnt in this...

  • FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...

  • Comment removed

  • WMG are a bunch of tight assed cock smokers!!!

  • Is everyone forgetting Jeff Berlin? Pure fucking genius

  • that list sucked badly, lol, none of this bassist is revolutionary at all, you hear me kid, your bass playing must be really awful aswell

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre Yes, Claypool inspired a revolution.

  • @Dashizz327 a revolution of posers, he is just a rip off of some great bass players of funk and motown, not the big deal, he never did something new to bass history. he is overrated, just like flea.

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre No he is not. He's the first bassist to ever play in tcherepnin minor pentatonics among various other scales. He did not rip anyone off, but incorparated dozens of playing methods and phrasings to create a sound that is both innovative and inspiring. Plus, those motown assclowns couldn't play half his shit.

  • @Dashizz327 yes he is, he is a faggot and so you for being a fan of hem. I am not even into Motown bullshit, I just recognize a fact. "He's the first bassist to ever play in tcherepnin minor " : learn how to write, and also, Jaco Pastorius was doing that WAY before, gets your facts rights you fucking idiot.

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre I'm very clearly a better writer than you. Let's sort this out right now. "and so you" should be 'and so are you'. "a fan of hem"..... It's 'him' you stupid piece of shit. What you have quoted of my previous comment is grammatically perfect. Jaco Pastorius never played in tcherepnin anything. Quit replying you're only embarassing yourself.

  • @Dashizz327 you are a fucking idiot, claypool is HOT GARBAGE for kids like you, kids that thinks that they know all about music just for being listening to funkmetal bullshit with 0 creativity. He is not innovative, he is a clown, primus is a boring band also.

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre Yea, you clearly haven't heard even a small portion of his work. Funkmetal describes maybe 3 songs.Claypool is about as creative as it gets in the music world. Also, I listen to everything from Art Blakey to Hella to Spiral Architect to Mahavishnu Orchestra. Look up one of those bands maybe some good taste will rub-off on your ignorant ass.

  • @Dashizz327 all of those bands sucks, check my youtube page, there is actual music there.

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre Nah all of that shit sucks. All lacking in technical ability and feel. Except Hella, thats a good band.
