  • awesome AWESOME airplane (mum looks fit too ;) ) do you know your a right lucky sod to have a go in 1 of the fastest machines ever created by man?

they were in service over 50 years ago and theres STILL almost NOTHING that can keep up with it!

  • Fantastic, superb; I think you guys are great for giving your mom this flight as a birthday gift. Not many people havethe cojones to do what you did " super-mom"

Very very well done Ghostrider ....

  • I was the only radar op on duty when the English Electirc P1 (Lightning) made its first high speed run up the West coast in the 1950s. The people at Barnton Quarry & Preston filter centres thought I was having them on because I was passing speeds they had never come across before.

  • @Norfolkscot I love anecdotes like this. You really did live in more exciting times. (I'm 24, born just before the EEL retired from service).

  • omg ur mum a pilot?

  • I think you'll find the aircraft is older than your mom. I don't know if there is a better interceptor built today.

  • @gamesbok it was the best pure interceptor ever made by anybody

f15 eagle was the best all round fighter

  • English Electric Lightning, not British...

  • Hey GR, Dave Stock was killed yesterday flying an airshow routine in Lightning ZU-BEX. The aircraft suffered double hydraulic failure and the ejection seat malfunctioned. The aircraft exploded on impact. Your mom is a lucky lady to have experienced flight with him. RIP Dave

  • To say the tears are flowing down my face at this moment would be an understatement. I was the "mom" who had the amazing and life altering experience in this jet! I do know first hand and it brings me great peace to know that Dave Stock died doing what he loved with all his heart! When I asked him why he flew the EEL for free he said there was no greater joy than having the ability to fly this plane on his time off. He was a Captain for South African Airline, 747. My heart goes to his family

  • God i can't believe it ! So sorry to hear that and having a love for the aircraft and the pilots who still fly them. I know someone who actually made them on the production line and i also know a fella called Vic' who flew them.

    My name is really Ian.

  • Awesome Video and is well made with great music and as for your 52yr old mom, well pure re-heat :] I want to know to her legs tremble when she got out of that baby ?

  • Jimjam, this well i guess you would call me "pure re-heat mom"! There is nothing like being in the cock pit of this craft. To go vertical from 50 ft off the deck of the Indian Ocean to 35,000 is like nothing on earth. Dave will be missed! What a pilot he was! Top Gun Mom

  • As a patriotic Brit with a love of all things flying... Thank you, thank you, thankyou for letting the world share your lady's experiences in what must be one of the most graceful, beautiful, let's face it - horny - aircraft ever built!!! Sh's one lucky lady!

  • Good camerawork, good music, I really enjoyed this video. Well done.

  • Thanks! I did what I could with a small handheld and iMovie. Since then, I have upgraded to a much better camera and Final Cut Studio 2. Thanks for the compliments though.

  • Your mom is a fearless woman! That was intensely cool.

  • What a cool mother, I wish my mum could do a barrel roll :)

  • Much more fun than an F14 Tomcat.

  • Great present!

  • How much????

  • 10000 Euros for the edge of space flight

  • what a superb gift.

your mums a lucky woman :)

  • It's a T5. I've always dreamt of a flight in one of those. Still a very impressive aircraft, even in this day and age. I even saw it the one year the RAF used them for the display team - awesome.

  • is she really a pilot? if so what jet or plane dose she pilot? i like the vido

  • Oh and as a side note, please forgive the cliche' and extremely overused Top Gun theme music. Its for my mom, and I knew she would instantly recognize the music.

  • A nice quality tribute. Few people have seen this aircraft perform and fewer people have been upclose to it, having worked at the then BAC sites of Warton, Preston and Samlesbury at that time I can truly state it scared the crap out of me on fast low level passes. It had a phenominal acceleration and climb rate which was only bettered by the F15, pretty good for a 50s designed aircraft. Cheers for the memories

  • @seesearch the f15 DIDNT better it for raw performance

  • @Ghostrider4450 music is fine APART from when the lightning does the pass you dont need music when youv got a fast jet in front of you :)

  • u should try out Lighting II ;) good present

  • wow!!!!! lucky mamma! where did you find your husband?

greeings from a mamma from Holland......

  • Very, very lucky lady.

  • that has got to be the ultimate birthday present!!!!

  • God bless her... so where is this place. what a plane. i wish the footage was better... but what a treat.

  • Thanks, it was in Cape Town South Africa. I wish I had been able to shoot some better footage as well. They had a mount for a camera in the cockpit, but my Sony Handycam wasnt the right dimensions for the mount.

  • Well it was a treat to watch.. and it took some guts to do what you did.But short of going up in some Russian Mig 25 the Lightening is about as good as it gets. continue to cherish the moment as you have done something that only a small percentage of the worlds population will ever do.. nor have the courage to.And those that love aviation were in that seat with you. If you ever get a chance to watch the movie"Always" with Holly Hunter ..do so.. there is something so very special in flight.

  • Nice video, Cool gift to your mom

    Congratulations

  • I thought the english electric lightning went out of service years ago, didn't it?

  • If by out of service you mean that it is not used by the RAF then you are probably right. Its still in use in many countries I believe.

  • the only ones flying are the ones at thunder city, believe me i've done the research, i'm doin an animation of the plane taking off for my degree

  • word is that theres a poss lightning restoration taking place in the uk, but theyre having problems getting permission for it to fly cos civies cant fly with afterburners, however i think its a F6 off top my head that doesnt need A/B so theyre lucking down that route. so hopefully in the next few years well have a vulcan, buc and lightning flying together in the uk! :)

  • the lighning will never fly in the UK. The aircraft is classed as a complex aircraft in the sma eleague as the Avro Vulcan. The Vulcan restoration is only going ahead because ALL the original equipment manufacturers are behind it , and also because of its good in service accident record. The CAA would not let one fly here....b*****ds!

  • the caa are letting a buccaneer fly and lets be fair they dont have gr8 low speed handling do they - i reckon a lightning would be safer

  • @funtimesteve2 i beleive you but concorde had 4 effin big burners and that was civvy

  • lucky cow

  • Nice. How old are you? Fucking five?

  • ?what? is that to me? lucky cow in british, (you know the country that used to rule the world before americans) means that's she's lucky and not that she's a cow

  • Ah ok, sorry. It was just a misunderstanding in vernacular. Cheers mate.

  • Its pretty expensive. About 30k US.

  • i would LOVE that!!! how much did that cost???

  • what a lucy mom:) can i ha ve a son like this:D lol

  • Hey ghostrider, never mind all the dumb remarks, most of the smartalecs (ziad25314) have never made a vid themselves...

I would absolutely love to get a present like that!! Tell your dad he's cool and tell your mom she's even cooler.

  • That move where you take 5 minutes to buckle someones crotch belt is the oldest move in the book. She should have smacked him for being a pervert. LOL

  • Heh, yeah they have to buckle more than that too. The ejection seat has straps that pull your legs and arms tight into the seat if you have to eject. This is so you dont get dismembered on the forward canopy upon leaving the cockpit. ; ) He was very polite about it.

  • WHAT Aircraft is that?

  • Mike, that would be an English Electric Lightning

  • Repost!

  • The humor of OT is strong with this one.

  • Did you subscribe to Youtube just to say that?

  • :werd:

  • So did Michael J. Fox film this vid?

  • Rofl, yeah its hard to hold a small ass sony handycam still on a windy tarmac.

  • knoodz?

  • No horrific crash?

  • This is probably the worst video ever made. <3 OT
