We called it a highway because the map we purchased showed that it was a two-lane highway over the mountains. Yes, we thought it would be a shortcut. What a surprise! We didn't see any people, but we saw miles of beautiful wilderness, tropical trees, and a lonely dirt track. We were hoping and praying that we didn't meet another car. Not sure how we would have passed them on the narrow paths!
why do these people keeping calling the dirt track highway. did someone tell them that they're highways. This a mountain road where noone lives. Did you see anyone up in there?
@florescaramelo Would love to visit Puerto Rico someday, but would not want to drive on the mountain roads again. Once was enough! We enjoyed the friendly people and the gorgeous scenery and would like to return to Jamaica with our children. Maybe we will see Puerto Rico, too!
yes i definitely know what it is about mountain driving especially when the road becomes big enough for one car. but thats nice. Jamaica is very beautiful. Puerto Rico and jamaica look identical by some standards.
Lol! We do not call those highway here in Jamaica!! Those are dirt tracks!! You final got to a highway in the latter portion of the video. Apparently you were taking a "shortcut" to your destination - you guys are good though:-)
yes you are now qualified to drive anywhere in the world cause we jamaicans drive furious as i bet you have seen and thank you for visiting our country hope you do again
RileyandLynn thank u for visiting jamaica and u are now qualified to drive anywhere in the world because i know for a fact that we jamaicans drive furious i also bet than when you returned to your country the roads look huge as it does to me when i visit the states
I love your adventurous spirit. This is something I would have to and have done by myself. My wife would never agree and she would panic and complain all the way.
Since you guys have adopted so well to the driving conditions of Jamaica, have you ever though about going to Nine-Mile, at the Bob Marley's birth place and Mausoleum
infact from 7:30, you guys have entered the cockpit country and that is a scenic and track route thats goes through the most unpopulated and preserved forest in jamaica...i have never being there or meat any one from where...good job
We didn't make it to Nine-Mile. Maybe next time. Cockpit Country is beautiful....but lonely. It was unnerving driving on a "highway" that looked more like a dry creek bed and no sign of civilization for miles and miles. Driving through the villages was fun, and we met many friendly people when we needed directions as road signs are nearly non-existant. We had no schedule to keep for two weeks so exploring the island was very entertaining. Portland was our favorite area. Beautiful!
It was unnerving at first, but we got used to it after a few days, and soon we were driving like the locals, honking our horn and everything! It was fun!
Very nice driving and scenery on the old country roads. any way before you venture in the hill its best to get a road map or go on Google Earth, that really helps. cause im from jamaica and i would get lost.
The funny thing is....we DID Google Earth the roads before we went to Jamaica! But we concentrated mostly on the coastal routes. We had a large, detailed map of the island, but everytime we asked a local resident about the "highway" (according to the map) that went across the hill country, no one seemed to be familiar with the route. Now we know it's because no one uses it! Other than that, we LOVED driving all over beautiful Jamaica!
I'm sure you guys will never forget that experience, beats lounging on the beach drinking margaritas. The name is 'Tourist' for a reason.
