  • I've watched this many times and I still get goose bumps :3

  • when i watch this, i get similar goosebumps to Secretariat. What's crazy about this, is that I bet on Mine That Bird, not knowing ANYTHING about him. I walked into a casino (Reno, Nevada) and noticed that the Kentucky Derby was about to start. I picked Mine That Bird due to my dad being an avid gold-miner, and my mama loving birds. I had $20 on me, but only bet $9. That $9 paid me over $400 if I remember right. It was funny, because the guy at the cash window looked amazed when I cashed it in.

  • Go BoRail!

  • not a bad $9,000 horse

  • Worst race call ever, it would have been a whole hell of a lot more exciting if the announcer had mentioned Mine That Bird at any point during the race. It was like he didnt even realize who had pulled ahead until it was all over.

  • @danniggerballs I know! Mine THat Bird was like zooming by them all and the announcer was like'oh, he's coming alive now!' but he wasn't talking about mine that bird, he was talking about someone else. And then mine that bird just blew by them all and won by several lengths!

  • @WillBackbone he may not say it in front of you, but I know I would!

  • Mine That Turd Lost again not one win since the KY Derby what a Loser

  • @WillBackbone you are an idiot...

  • @razzbc You wouldn't say that standing in front of me

  • @WillBackbone Anybody that has ever read any of your comments would gladly call you an idiot to your face.

  • @danniggerballs Legends Gym Hollywood, your bluff has been called Chump.

  • @WillBackbone - Just remember.....KENTUCKY DERBY CHAMP 2009 !. AND nobody can take that away from him, Calvin, or any of their original connections from derby day. If he would have got Rachel in the Preakness EVERYBODY would be singing a different tune about the little bird that could!. This is the best race call EVER from Durkin.....He got STUMPED BAD!!....' up the rail here comes............mine that bird....an IMPOSSIBLE FINISH!!!'........Nice surprise eh Tom?? I saw MTB Maiden Win at Woodb

  • @Nucleo85Torino He will not be remembered but for gettting lucky and winning that race like Giacomo and Gato Del Sol. Mine That Turd Never won another race as he just ran his last race at CD and as they say was "well up the tract at the finish. He's off to the glue factory now.

  • @WillBackbone JERK! Your a stupid idiot jerk face that's covered in poop! I hope Mine THat Bird comes into your life and kills you! And yea, i would call you an idiot RIGHT to your face. You don't scare me, and you never will.

  • Who would have thought....

  • Number 1 is breath-taking! Is that Mine That Bird!?

  • A year later, and I still can't believe it when MTB comes out of nowhere.

  • The poster of this video made me choke on my coffee, spewing java on the floor. Why? I saw their screen name: "CatFanInTheBathtub." I don't know what the image was in their heads...but the film clip that came to me was a cat getting a bath with their paws and claws spinning at 500 RPM. Funny! Thanks for making me choke with laughter...and thanks for the Derby post!

  • They slice horse's balls off all too quickly these days. After a performance like that they could have charged $20k a pop minimum in the breeding shed - say a conservative 100 mares a year, for 10 years = $20 million in ten years. Now they'll get f*ck all. Serves them right for slicing his bollocks off.

  • When he crossed the line, he won with a greater lead than he ever trailed by.

    That is incredible.

  • wow, that horse is my inspiration

  • Come on people - the Melbourne Cup is the world's greatest spectacle :P

  • mine that bird is a metaphor 4 my life.who would of thought the under horse?

  • @ Supernikki, not a lot of horses have been killed at the KY Derby.

  • did Mine That Bird start at last place?? either way one weird: WOW

  • hes trully the best race horse!

  • Clearly don't have a clue what your talking about... Thanks for the interest though...

  • why do i not have a clue? am i not allowed my opinion? and what makes it better?

  • Sorry if Came across a little... gruff. But! Comparing the kentucky derby (which btw has been won by many of the greatest horses that ever had 4 legs) with the national is like comparing a smash-up derby with formula 1. I don't begrudge anyone having an opinion, but it is clear from what you have said that you know nothing about racing.

  • yea maybe in terms of quality it is but in terms of a spectacle the national is the best race to watch and thats a fact! more ppl watch it than any other race and more ppl bet in it than any other race

  • The National and the Derby are2 completely different race types. You can't compare them.

  • yep your rubbish.

  • I love how Pioneerof the nile he was going so so so easy his strides nice and long and easy had the perfect trip. To bad he retired he would have been good in the BC classic him and MTB are my faves 3 yo males

  • MTB needs another race like this. he needs some pace in a race and some horses in a race thats why i think he lost the belmont, the field wasnt small but he did move a little early. And the preakness he had to much trouble comeing into the strecth. I really like PON he was super in this race and in the preakness got bubmed :( i hope he doesnt end up like Brother Derkek the derby fave then barley won a race after. I like Musket man though i hope he wins a couple down the road....maybe the haskel.

  • Cal Ripken Jr. placed a bet on Mine That Bird.

  • He came outa nowhere!!!

  • no matter what anybody says, on this day, mine that bird ran a huge race. every horse was in the same boat he was and he ran the best race.

and whoever thinks durkin is a big race caller, please, just shut up. It's hard to memorize 20 horses and call them and point out what's going on.....plus, he's a veteran and is one of the best racecallers in horse racing. u people should try it

  • mine that bird proved that he was no fluke by coming 2nd in the preakness best horse won om the day its a shame he is a gelding

  • @dinney123 Nowhere near the league of the great Greg Miles of Victoria, Australia.

  • mine that bird is super fast!!!wow what a spectacular race

  • go to hell then

  • Okay I will then; Who, besides you, gives a flying leap?

  • He hates you too!!

  • God, I hope so.

  • So, what is the Calipari Curse?

    Missed free throws.

When the game is on the line, when the heat is turned up, you can count on any team Calipari is coaching to miss free throws.

    Beware the missed free throws...

  • I made $1750 off of mine that bird

  • Just to burst your bubble, Mine That Bird was bred and owned and developed by Canadians. His new American owner was very gracious in acknowledging this on Derby Day. Horses don't have nationalities, really. They don't care what side of the border the pasture is on.

  • Moron - he's KY bred and raised. He was sent to Canada AFTER he was sold for $9500 at the Fasig-Tipton Fall yearling sale. He was broke and initially raced in Canada. While your comment is valid in essence, at least get your facts straight. Thanks!

  • RacingGuy, I know the horse was born in Kentucky. I said "by" Canadians, not "in" Canada. After you learn some elementary manners, learn to read. There are too many rude people where you live.

  • Actually, I think the owners (Mark Allen and Leonard Blach) reside in Roswell, NM. In a recent news conference, Allen stated that Mine That Bird was a "Kentucky Horse".

I don't know if that info is of any help... or just fuel the fire. Kind of hope it just helps...

Anyway... Great horse... Great race... Way to go Calvin Borel !!!

  • Yeah, just like with Street Sense! Bo-rail!

    Nice video!

    ~ Fer, Railbird Pictures

  • He looks so relaxed coming out of that race. If nothing else, I think it says a lot about this horse mentally.

  • He shouldnt win again your right but I dont think he will be overbet either, he will get to 10-1 in the preakness if and only if rachel alexandra, pioneer and musket man are there too

  • mine that bird will be a sucker bet at 3:1 in the preakness....pioneer will be 5:1....and rachel alexander will be 6:5....musket man and friesen fire will both be 7:1.....rain is forecast for balt on saturday...so rachel and frisen and mine that bird may be lower than that....friesen fire will be a GIFT (value bet) at 7:1.

  • Calvin Borel went to kindergarten with my dad and he is my 3rd cousin.

We both used to live in catahoula...thats in louisiana by st martinville

  • Comment removed

  • Maybe so. But he had his moment nonetheless.

  • I agree its nice to see the smaller ones come out on top for a change

  • I don't think you even know what you are talking about. He's the top Canadian horse. Out of thousands. To top that off, he might not even be running in the preaknese if you actually bothered to pay attention. We are talking a $9,000 horse compared to $500,000 ones. And he kicked them all to the curb

  • um.. ok that was a really dumb thing to say.

  • Mine that Bird, what a fuckin beast

  • Tom Durkin was getting fucked in his fat ass by Dave Johnson while Mine that Bird was flying up the rail and thus he missed the call.He has been Fudgepacking Johnson for three decades now.

  • Tom Durkin should retire!!!

  • I'm expecting a Disney movie to be made in 3...2....1....

    but seriously, how heartwarming :)

  • No It needs to be made by someone who GETS IN himself, like a Natural does it. One who knows what it is like to view himself when he is In--like the Brazilian driver who won the Indy knows how to. You don't need steroids. All you need is a Knowingness of how to FEEL out all space around you. Borel has that gift and IT guides the horse. I wonder if Borel has figured his Self out? McAvoy-Borel, Crowe or Viggo trainer or owner. Director Mel. A Right Stuff kind of movie-without banal emotion.

  • Ya gotta' love it. Two cowboys from New Mexico, who met in a bar fight 20 yrs ago & became friends, just flipped off the oil sheiks and racing's elite with a $10,000 horse and a quirky jockey.

    Only in America!!! Whooo Hooo!

  • why ont you stfu you moron. go lose some more money & stop hating a little horse that DID bitch. they won it fair..you just stfu.

  • I think it's HILARIOUS that people lost money. I keep giggling about it.

  • It's great when someone can make a bold statement like that and then turn out to be right. But no, MTB finished a close second in the Preakness and you've done nothing but humiliate yourself.

  • They do test them before and the top 4 are tested again after the race. No one cheated, I think the condition of the track (a lot of the faves weren't used to mud in their faces) and Calvin's ability to ride, helped this horse a lot. Calvin is known to take a risk coming up the rail, and he is not the usual jockey for this horse. He rode him much differently than he is normally ridden and he didn't push him til the end.

  • No, hes just a pissed off person who lost money to an underdog.

  • i thought that they already tested them prior to the race?

  • So the owners came out of Roswell, New Mexico. And that was a little green man up top.

  • Who is that guy in the green shirt that took Calvin Borel's helmet before the parade on the turf? Does this sport have no rules? Later, just seconds before weigh out, some guy hands Calvin his helmet. Calvin steps on the scale, makes the weight limit, then moves on. Should the stewards been all over this procedure? Maybe someone who knows the rules can comment.

  • mabe your paranoid little mind should learn sop. stop hating..the little horse won it fair!

  • Can't beat those Louisiana boys. Lache Pas Calvin! Merci bien!

  • i was at my friends house during this race, and when MTB was in last, i pointed at MTB and said "ill tell you whos not going to win". about 2 or 3 minutes later we were both shocked...

  • took Durkin off guard. He came out of nowhere it seemed. To busy calling the other horses.

  • I love the post race interviews with the owner, who got all pissed when the interviewers kept asking about his leg. What a comeback!

  • That was the worst call of a race that I have ever heard. Great race Bo-rail.

  • You got that right, it was terrible. Mine That Bird took the lead at 4:33 (clip time) and the jackass didn't mention his name until 4:41. But what's 8 seconds?

  • No one knew its name until 4:41.... I am no horse racing fan, but this kicks ass!

  • The old guy behind me in line at the OTB put $100 on Mine That Bird to win!. Shoulda seen the crumpled up $1s and $5s he was unfolding. He looked at me and said, "I always bet the long shots and have never won, but I got a tip this time." We bet on Chocolate Candy.

  • I love how Clavin turns around and waves at the ponies he just left in the dust coming down the stretch. Gave me goose bumps. What a GREAT race!

  • I heard on ESPN that he was waving at his wife/fiance......

  • Very much like Secretariats last to first win at the 73 Debry. This performance is "almost "as amazing as the Secretariat Belmont performance

  • No. Secretariat tore the Derby record up. But I will say it was a decent time for a sloppy track.

  • I think Calvin Borel is the most down to earth jockey i have ever seen interviewed. I was so excited for him two years ago and to see a repeat was great. Calvin is a true champ. God has truly blessed him and he is a kind soul....

  • I agree :)

  • Did MTB come from last?

  • Yeah, if you look at 4:16 he starts to accelerate all the way from the back.

  • Durkin needs to take more fish oil and acetyl-L-choline is recommended for memory enhancement

  • Durkin botched it. Time for him to retire

  • Terrible stretch call. Is the botox keeping him from remembering the names of the horses?

  • cant blame durkin for that the horse came out of nowhere he thought he had the wrong horse...i thought it was west side bernie

  • Hola, that was a awsome winn for Mine that BIrd

  • Durkin wa caught off guard...never expected that one!!!

    GONE !!!

  • Tom Durkin F**K up the stretch run he didn't even know who the horse was, that was a pathetic call by one the Best.

  • yeh he ran out of commenter steam there on the back stretch i was yelling it and he still wasn't saying anything about it that's a failblog

  • that horse had a HUGE move

  • He was 2nd to last in the final turn. Awesome

  • I love these kinds of Derby finishes.
