Nice work by BBC by giving a real nice send off with a slick looking production. Almost like they knew it might be his last tv performance. rip freddy
I am so happy that I was a teenager in the 60's in Britain. Thanks for posting this. I have been away from Britain for many years now, but yearn for home when I watch these wonderful videos. That was definitely an era that cannot be replaced.
Well this was the first ep I've got from my parents log long long ago, so I have special memories on Freddy en Co, very nice to see it back after about 50 years
i saw freddie and the dreamers live at the Doncaster Gaumont in the late sixties in pantomime called the tinder box they wear fantastic.R.I.P. freddie.
In the band's later years, probably say 15 years from the height of their career, Freddie always knew the act was anachronistic (behind the times). But it was his humour that carried him through. In the 70's or 80's a tv presenter asked him why they weren't making the charts any more, and he said with a laugh "because we're crap" A little unjustified, as he was a great warm and cheerful entertainer. They did some lovely tunes as well. Not just bang on for their time, but always entertaining.
@PeteWoodier Yes, it sounds like they didn't change their sound as some contemporary musicians did. The Beatles sound progressed through the 60's, so they remained relevant. Those artists who did not develop a "timeless" sound did not. I am not really into these guys, but they sound talented.
Wonderfully goofy, that Freddie. And the band sounds pretty good for a live TV thing. Doesn't look like Freddie is singing lead here, maybe the years took a toll on his singing voice - he could still do the crazy laugh. I'm about 6 years too young to remember the British Invasion as a teenager, but I inherited my older brothers & sisters box of used 45's. This one was in there. My older sister pulled a hamstring trying to do the Freddie without proper warm-up. Thanks for the post.
Much love on here for Freddie. I agree wholeheartedly. Loved him as a kid. Parents were dumbfounded by his antics. I loved him then and now. Sorry I never got to see him live. I must say that those two guys sitting to the side make me think of Statler and Waldorf. RIP funny gentle Freddie.
I graduated in 1965 and we were all doing the Freddy at the senior prom. I always smile when I see him in these vids. He was pure fun, and if you didn't get it, that's your loss. JIM Ziegler
He was really funny in real life too, when we were on a 'Date', (when I was a young guitar playing teenager, before I joined a Band,) we went to Doncaster Bowling Alley and he was pretending to throw himself along with the ball along the Alley.......Ha ha ha ha ha......... Fond memories Freddie. X
I was lucky enough to see freddy and rhe dreamers in concert at Skegness in 1982. It cost £2.50 for a ticket and I swear it was one of the best most entertaining concerts I have seen. I been to many concerts and festivals featuring top artists but I swear this was absolutely amazing. I remember watching freddy on TV when i was a child and loved him then.
I love this guy. He just seemed to have a lot of fun doing what he was doing. I just saw a film called Parasomnia... a kind of dark fairy tale that coming out this year. The movie is dedicated to Freddy Garrity... SERIOUSLY!!! It says so at the end of the film... REALLY!!!
What a beautifull person and a free spirit, the world needs more like Freddy.God Bless you Freddy, when i think of good times in my life I think of you and the British Invasion.Love and respect from America.
Freddie/Dreamers had an unwitting role to play in rock history. Paul McCartney said that the Freddie and Dreamers's version of "If You Gotta Make A Fool Of Somebody" was a Beatles arrangement. Beatles played it in Manchester. Freddie copied it,and were performing this arrangement. Because of this incident,Beatles decided to concentrate on their own compositions. The rest is History. The Beatles forgave Freddie and the Dreamers, invited them to do a appearance in their 1964 Christmas Special.
I mentioned that Freddy was still a cutie. Yes, he has passed on to that Rock and Roll Haven. But all of his fans can still enjoy watching his performances.
Did anyone see him fly across the stage? I remember that he loved the false entrance and he just took your breath away with his act. Just how did he sing so well and dance like that I will never understand and I am so pleased that I did see him live in the 60's :D
i saw him in dartford kent about two yearsbefore he died, and as always he was great,i wonder if the hip-hop bands and rapp stars will still be doing there stuff??
I actually broke my foot doing the Freddie at a crowded slumber party!
Many years later, in the early 80's I actually got to see the band during the British Invasion tour. The Trogs were there, and Gerry and the Pacemakers. Does anyone remember this tour?
Saw Freddie and the Dreamers about a year before Freddies's death, and although he was obviously unwell, he still gave his all. Feel quite honoured to be one of those the 'picked on' in the audience! Great man, sadly missed
He died? That sucks! He sounds like one of the few you can actually recognize their voice at this age. Everyone else seems that their voices are shot.
Freddy was FUN! Every time he went on The Ed Sullivan Show on Sunday night, all the kids in Junior High were doing "The Freddy" the next morning at the school bus stop and were having a great time of it! Freddy had a great time of it, and he made people happy. Look at him go! YAH!!
Ahhh, Freddie and The Dreamers! A reminder of my youth. This was a 'feel good" band. They would take songs that "serious" bands rejected - and make them hits!
yes it was an itv children's show starring freddie and the dreamers, (in the 70's i think), called 'little big time', mainly comedy and some music, although there was a children's narrative theme to it, (not unlike emu tv or wizbit)
Merc-did your Dad save the famous appendix in a jar or wasn't it famous yet? Was the removal filmed? That would be a revealing bit for YouTube. Loved Freddie's music!!!
Thanks for this. This is great. I was so sorry to find out that Freddie died in 2006. I guess it means we're all getting older. But as this shows, just because you're getting older doesn't mean you can't be young inside. God bless Freddie.

Can't be judged against today's 'artists' - the 60's & 70's were very different times.
But F&tD were VERY popular in their day; always entertaining.
AND, no-one who saw them in concert, watched them on TV or listened to any of their many hit records were ever moved to bad behaviour!
Thanks, lads.
