can some one help me with something @ 4:13 the burlap looks really soft my burlap is really is really itchy like feel and really stiff and not like that at all can someone inform me please?
if you don't want to do the tedious work of unravelling the burlap, buy jute twine... its about a dollar a roll and it works the same... just cut different lengths; dye it in different colors in Rubbermaid containers, and let it dry... you will have to wet it to get the "roll" shape out anyway
@golfer15963 it's not about those guys making it to disguise themselves so they can operate their missions and whatnot in this video, it's about making a ghillie suit and anybody can use a ghillie suit for various purpose (i.e. hunters can use them for disguise while hunting, hence the hunting advice).
@TheZerosabre no i just figured they were military guys who were serious about taking out ppl... theres so manny scent and the new UV craze in the hunting world, me personally i think over time the UV will die in my hunting clothes or fade away that the deer wont see me I harvested 2 this past season already. and i think leaving the fabrics in a box of baking soda all shaken up and mixed well will kill most the scent or just hang it up outside for a while.
if I were an enemy of the U.S. like russia, iran, north korea, china, or even syria, I'd just type in 'Navy Seals, or Army Rangers, or Marines' etc like' training methods' along with 'patroling ', hand n arm signals', 'evasive manuers' , etc etc then theyd learn alot....
Im so proud of my ghillie suit, I think I'll show my enemies how I do it....so they'll know what to look for and how to find me! and then they can take my idea and make it better! idots. why dont u show us ur stalkin techniques and manuvers...being proud will get u killed.
@ancbcc but, dont u think that soldiers that were in the army, and been taught all the tactics and stuff, have joined the "enemy's camp?". So the enemy already has the signals and stuff, so its youtube that will give them out.
@LoneSniper27 You'll notice that when you shred the precammo burlap, it will appear to be all tan with hints of color in it and not much green. It would work ok for a desert type situation but you will have to dye or spraypaint it if theres green in the terrain. It's a project that can always be altered. Be aware of what colors are in the area. You can use natural vegitation to fill in spots but remember after a while it will die or whilt and not look natural so you'll have to re-veg.
its better to cut 1 yard x 1yard burlap and frey that, you get 2 times asmuch burlap as you are geting it from both X and Y axis, afterwards make a granny knot, double the burlap with half you need, listen to 3:00, that method is better but longer!
@TheDarkSide599 Although he probably didn't think that much of that sentence, if one made it completely random, it could result in a what would be normal pattern (like strips), so applying in a random pattern would result in no obvious patterns visible easily but has no strike guidelines. Also there is also the point that nothing can truly be random.
how do you die(?) burlap as i have only seen cloth color that you have to use your washing machine on (washing machine before cutting it up? is it possible)
I really prefer synthetic materials. They are more durable, don't rot, don't burn, don't shed, etc... A bit more expensive, maybe, but pays off in the long run.
@invertmininick If u check out some sail shops, or heavy sheet shops, you should find something close enough to canvas. You can even visit a swag maker and ask for some offcuts or do the same with a shop that makes Sails.
I went to walmart and they have camo sheet type things for $10 an piece and it is 4 1/2 feet by 12ft...I bought 3 of them for a xxl hoodie...I hope it is too much so then i can get a gun wrap...My paintball gun is blue and chrome!!!LOL
there this locally sports store out where i live that sells it but u can try and look for it at any sports store or try walmart seems like they sell anything these days
realy small. but im a guy who just likes finishin all the steps no cuttin corners. i live in the desert and if your out all day that sun hits ur ghillie and one ejected shell can cause u trouble. im just cautious
Depending on what your using your Ghillie for... of paintball or hunting use rubber cement. It will last a bit longer the sewing string on it or if your just showing it off the go with the sew ^_^
super glue or another type of glue maybe hot glue, rubber cement that stuff. I use "GOOP" it's even better than super glue but it's pretty much the same thing as the shue goo
with mine i hosed mine once hung it in my potatoe cellar and the next day made a mix of horse amanure and dirt and threw it on the suite to cancle out all human sent
@deathcometh61 You don't only want the jute thread. You also want at least a few strands of burlap on your suit to make it look more ratty and nutural.
@Hardhardcorestyle think of a burlap bag...thats pretty much jute, i go to my local fabric shop and buy it. They should have it labeled "100% jute" it comes in tanish colors to be begin with but use RIT dye and your set... also if u dye it first< then take it apart in strands its a lot easier to work with.
@MarcusMcGinnis89 thanks, i get it now.i got burlap bags, couldnt find any dye with these colours, and spray painted them. it proved out it failed big time. now i'll dye them properly. Btw i made a "willing-to-be ghillie poncho" with 2 nets(190x90m). now i gotta dye these bags before putting them onto the nets.
@Hardhardcorestyle no prob, ya i use tiger stripe bdus (seperate pants and jacket) so i dont need to break up the front with paint...plus i hate wearing flight suits! haha but dyeing them in sheets allows u to hang them up to dry, in front of a wood stove etc...just make sure they are a safe distance away! it will burn dont forget...remeber to mix colors of dye if u need sumthin thats custom to fit ur area (tangerine and SLOWLY add dark green, it will give you a rich wood color) have fun w/ it
Well if you net the suit, then add the burlap, you can go out into the area your going to be playing in, and then break off sticks, or, twigs, or local leaves, and then lace them into the netting. You cant do that with just burlap strips.
I got pre-dyed jute. And if I want to blend, I can just attach two different colours together or something like. Idon't know, I'll find I way. My whole life I've been just making-do with what I had. I made some awesome couflage using and old hockey jersey, a cedar tree leaf thingy and Krylon camo spray paint. For an example, in the movie Shooter, the main character camos his gun like that.
however. burlap is not the only material that is used.
"Jute" AKA twine found at your local hardware store can be used as well.
i would go with synthetic materials such as polypropylene, when dyed it looks exactly the same as jute or burlap but is lighter, more breathable, and is already flame retardant.
a ghillie suit is essentially an over sized fire starter IT WILL IGNITE. all it takes is a discarded cigarette bud or spend cartridge
on my ghillie suit (if u have big squares, it takes 1-2 strips... but if u have little squares just one) trust me its looks nice and you can always go back and put on more strips if you want
