  • Question: When you see the live version of this song, Phil usually played Guitar 1 in the verse/Guitar 2 in the chorus and then Steve played the reverse. Did they do it differently on the album?

  • In my book it just says guitar 1 and guitar 2. But when I play it I have to say YES from the live version to the album are much different. I have seen them many many times live including their very first tour in the states all the way until Steve died. I have seen them switch parts and even where Joe plays as a 3rd acoustical part of the rhythm while they both play the lead parts. I have to say Def Leppard is one of my favorite all time groups for their musical talents man! They are GREAT!

  • I dont normally comment. But dude, you fuckin' rock. Thanks man, keep it up!!!

  • @NoBSThirsty Well I am glad you stopped by to comment! Glad you like it! Also If you like this vid you might like my originals on my second channel DreidMusicalX2? Little harder rock then this and more technical but you should like them...Check them out if you get some time to.

  • Awesome job. Take a make a video with split screen with both gitar parts (1 & 2).

  • @Spanky4548 Hey man sorry it took so long to get back with you. I have been really busy writing new original songs of my own on my second channel DreidMusicalX2 and doing my decking again. Trying to get it done by the end of this summer around my house. But thanks man and glad you like!

  • Great hwo its all divided up and explained this is goin in my favs gonna learn some stuff out of this thanks ! :)

  • awesome... i cant even do the intro....yet!

  • @onealanshearer Thanks! Just keep at it and you will get it! it just takes time and patients.

  • i got the "Best of Def Leppard" sheet music book and learned hot to play this song off of that. now I've played the whole rhythm part and can play along the CD very well. but when I try to play along with this video its 1/16 note off? am I doing the right thing or are you doing a different part? hope I dont have to start all over again lol

  • @NickKnipp1990 No I am not doing anything different from the book I have. Signature Licks book is the one I am going by note for note. But if you are playing the song right you should be able to play along to this video no matter what. Can you make a video of you playing it & I can help you out with what you may be doing wrong? These 2 really are tricky with the notes they play when they harmonize together the two parts. U are playing along with the cd and might not hear what you are doing wrong

  • I deadened the background with a GTP3 software I have then redone both rhythm and lead to the same track on this. That way it gives it a little more distinguished sound of who is doing what.

  • @DreidMusicalX ill try and make a vid, the cameras i have are crappy though. in the meantime ill practice more :D

  • @NickKnipp1990 Thats ok just do the best you can. I should be able to see enough and hear what you are doing to tell.

  • yeah u can tell ur playin. ive herad this song alot learning th bass riffs and know th original from th parts i hear from u. damn good sound ya got there

  • is it even plugged in?... cant hear your guitar...

  • @letsgetrocked89 Yes its plugged in and you are hearing my guitar. This is what you get when you use a PODxt is EXACT tone matching! The background guitar is the rhythm on videos 2. I just separated the videos because I didn't have split screen at this time like I do now. Go to my second channel and listen to my originals there and you will then know what real sound Line6 has. My other channel is DreidMusicalX2

  • @letsgetrocked89 he is just that good:) lol

  • damn, youve got to teach me my fave song! also what were the amp settings? were they at these following settings?

    drive- 4

    bass -4

    mid - 5

    treble - 5

    reverb - 7

    help me out! 0.0

  • @NickKnipp1990 These are pretty close but depending on you're guitars pickups and what amp you have? It could be hard to re produce their exact sound. With out the PODxt its going to be really hard! Not sure if I have talked with you before because I talk with ALLOT of people about music helping them. The best you can do is play with the setting on you're amp if that is what you are using. Keep the mid around half way to start. cont....

  • Bass - In between 4 to 6 I would say. Treble 5 -7 I never have set my reverb above 5 so start around 2 then go up to 5. Chorus is what you are needing more then reverb for this song for the clean. But you can over kill any effects! Now you're drive setting. A good rule of distortion, gain, or drive is not to have more then needed to sustain the notes long enough ob in a song. Really anymore then 8 at the worst is over kill. Tell me what amp you are using? I am may be able to help better.

  • @DreidMusicalX I'll try those settings, pretty sure i went thru them in the past haha. I dont use nothing but the guitar and a amp, my guitar teacher was really old fashioned "a good musican doesnt need gadgets to play good music" and that stuff. Its an Ibanez G10 with a Line6 Spider IV15. I cant use both reverb and tape echo on that amp so i just stick with the tape echo for better sound. The chorus on the amp is so confusing, i leave it alone lol. basically i keep it clean as possible.

  • @NickKnipp1990 "a good musician doesn't need gadgets to play good music" Thats a really bad quote! lol! Completely not true either. Thats like saying a good carpenter only needs to use rocks instead of a hammer and chisel. Sure you can build a few things with them, but its not going to be the same work and its going to take allot longer. Whats going to happen is you are going to be VERY limited player! If that was the case don't use a electric guitar or amp. Those gadgets (Pickups) you dont need

  • Truth is I have been playing now for around 27 years and everyone who says that old school quote has been very limited in their playing and sound. Better tones, effects. and amps will let you play different things you normally couldn't or wouldn't even think of playing. Not to mention allot of amps have those effects built into them that they STILL used while making that quote. Truth was they had a harder time working the pedal or doing more then one thing at a time. Thats a small box to live in

  • @DreidMusicalX Yeah I told u he was old fashioned His hobby room was full of acoustics and he played reallly good on them, both country and rock, it was great to hear that kinda music unplugged. i started out on an acoustic as well. But i loved the electronic sounds (ex. Def Leppard) So thats why I wanted to find the exact settings on this cheapo amp. Theres a marshall for sale at the nearby store so i might be going for that. I still would like the settings for them too lol.

  • @NickKnipp1990 If you are looking at a Marshall? I would make sure it was the J800 at least. But you are going to spend some cash for that! If I could ever afford it I would actually go out and get the Line 6 Vetta II head to go with my cabinets that I have stored away collecting dust! lol! I haven't even had the need to touch them in a year! haha! Sucks! The reason why I would is all the damn amps, cabs, and affects it has and you can use dual heads, effects with it also! I played on 1 and OMG!

  • The things you can do on it was just AMAZING! It has a bit more then the PODX3 series and it just cranks live! Just about every Marshal amp & head you would ever want is in that Vetta II head. Its almost 2 grand. But they also have a combo amp of it I was thinking of getting that would be better. Since you can hook them up to run 2 full cabinets anyways. Then smaller gigs just use the combo alone. Anyways what amp are you using now?

  • @DreidMusicalX ahh touche! good picks of equipment. Ive done some research on DL tones and I've been wanting an classic '87 Marshall JCM800 along with an gibson/epiphone les paul standard. I will probably have to get pedals too, but thats after my new Jeep lol. I've been meaning, is there a pedal that can sustain a note for like... a minute or longer?

  • @NickKnipp1990 Hey get the EP Les Paul Custom like mine instead. Its a little bit more money but well worth it over the classic. It has better pickups in it. Well worth the extra approx $100! As for a pedal to sustain over a minute? Very doubtful! But there are tricks to getting notes to sound like they are sustaining longer like in King Nothing from Metallica. Using a digital delay at the right settings can like it is sustaining as long as you want by repeating the note without any notice.

  • @DreidMusicalX ok thanks, ill try the delay thing, and no I prefer the standard. Steve clark used standard and all the customs are at least $500 more than the standard.

  • @NickKnipp1990 Above you wrote gibson/epiphone les paul standard. I must have misunderstood, You must be talking about the regular Gibson standards, not the Epiphone standard series. Because the Gibson Epiphone standards range from $350 to $450 and the Customs are only about $599 period, mine was $675 with hard case.

  • @DreidMusicalX The exact guitar Im looking for is an Epiphone Les Paul Standard. it comes in as black and white, very beautifil looking. Its pretty much made my Gibson, not sure about the pickups or the case tho. It can be found on Gibson.com for around $832

  • @NickKnipp1990 Oh hell no! Don't buy from the Gibson site! Unless this is some kind of a special limited edition you should be able to find the same guitar for around $350 - $400. Dude where is the link to the exact guitar you are looking at? I will try to find you the same guitar through one of my affiliates for cheaper and with a warranty on it!

  • @DreidMusicalX Try this link ans tell me if its the same guitar? Under the picture will be all different colors you can choose by clicking on them. The call the black with white plate Ebony I will send you the link in a message. You Tue will not let us post links to site on comments.

  • Awsome..nice guitar!!

  • I appreciate all the effort bro..

    R... O.

    nuff said.

  • that's one of the most awesome version of hysteria that I've ever seen on You Tube, and you gave this one justice! :) would it be ok if could please tell me how you got the tabs/chords for that song? :D coz I've been looking for the best one, and there seems to be a lot of tab versions for it.

  • I don't go by tabs bro. I learned this by the books I have. Then I researched out what amps, and effects they used for this song and re created the tones the best I could on the LINE 6 PODxt that you see in the right side of this video that I am playing through.

  • @DreidMusicalX Technically an official book is still using TABS lol

  • @Stix752 Oh thats right we have some people out there that need to be politically correct. Since you're brain doesn't distinguish the difference when someone says tabs meaning online tabs from books? I should have said online tabs that people make in things like notepad, instead waisting my time and writing even more hen I have to like I am now. But since you want to be politically correct? Not all official books have tabs in them.

  • @DreidMusicalX I'm just teasing you know. No need to get serious. Regardless you are still a great player.

  • @Stix752 I like talking with people, helping them out, and sharing music with them. Its something I love doing in my free time when I am not writing or playing around. But sometimes its hard to tell when people are just being what I call politically correct smart asses, or just making fun when reading comments. For that I do apologize by taking you're comment wrong.

  • That is just great I love this song. Can u help me out on an acoustic version please? There are no decent acoustic vids or tab out there I can find.

  • Thanks, but I have never done a acoustic version of this song. I can try to help you a bit. Let me contact you by message

  • nice bro... buenisimo el cover te felicito ... cheers from guatemala and tabs please....

  • ¡Gracias! ¿Intento difícilmente hacerle el mejor que puedo? Puedo ayudarle hacia fuera con lo que usted quiere. Todo lo que pido es suscribe a mí y ensambla mi Web site para libre. No hay cargas para la materia que doy lejos. Apenas me ayuda a saberse. ¡Después de que usted suscriba y ensamble usted puede conseguir lo que usted le necesita tiene gusto en cualquier momento!

    Thank You!

  • Very nice tis is the best Def leppard song out there. Thanks man

  • Thanks! Glad you like it! And yes I love this song of theirs.

  • Tabs please :) awesome cover.

  • I will message you.

  • can you message me the tabs to? lol

  • I do not go by tabs, but I will help you out.

  • I'm jealous, dude. You play this song so friggin' well, so true to the album. I can only imagine that Steve would smile with this cover.

  • haha! Thanks man!

I wish Steve was still here!

  • nice guitar

  • Thank you

  • Amazing cover man!!

    Thanks

  • Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it!

  • Nice ..... you play that really good.

  • Thanks! I am also playing the flip side of this video as well. I made two videos, this one is the leads and the other is the rhythm. I had shot two videos while recording each track. This way people can see what parts are really being played. Very cool how DL arranged this song between them. Its one of my favorites just for that reason!

  • Excellent job man! Sounds great.

  • Thanks man!

  • This is the best ballad cover man how did you get that sound on the main riff? Sounds just like Phil's work. 5*****

  • Thanks man! I use Line 6 Equipment. You have so many amps, cabs, and effects to work with.

  • hey man i cant figure out how to get the tone for the pre-chorus to this song so any tips for how i can get that sound

  • Ill message you

  • you ever played Another Hit and Run, I cant get around that solo and how its to be done.

  • Yes I played it when I was younger. Its not that easy of a song and takes allot of practice!

  • O.k. I understand......Thanks,looking forward to see more vids from you, Russell in Baton Rouge

  • NP I will do other covers later on, but right now im in the middle of a few songs as it. I have to go after my own music right now mostly at this point and time.

  • Cool, could you do a instruc. Vidios for White Lightning? Russell in Baton Rouge La.

  • Although I dont play that song or any newer ones after Steve, Def Leppard videos I do are not really instruction videos. I see to many people getting there vids removed or channels taken down for breaking copyrights on Lep songs. UMG will let you do covers of there stuff without the risk of getting booted off YT. The best instuctional to use is a book for covers. Also I only do covers I really really like that would get played in a band mostly otherwise its kind of a waist of time.

  • Frackin awesome!!.....I love this song....Thanks for the vid dude.....

  • Thanks, Def Leppard has great tunes!

  • cool man! how long have you been playing?

  • Thanks! I have been playing around 26 years now off and on. I had stopped playing because of accident. Not ever again if I can help it. You never know what could happen???

  • People please dont mark musicians comments as spam on my channels for asking me to come watch there videos. I ask any musician to tell me to come check out there videos. Asking a person to watch there videos is not spam anyways. To me spam is someone asking me to come to there website to look at big tittDOTCum crap! lol! You Tube is musicians sharing there stuff and I have met great people that way!

Dont follow trends of the stupid & narrow minded! Think for yourself!

  • Hey man! That is amazing!

I play the saxophone myself, but was brough up with Def Leppard etc. You really sound amazing!

    Grear great job...

  • Thanks man! I loved doing these 2 videos of this putting in the Rhythm and Lead in each video. It was hard to do but I wanted to people how its done by the book note for note and with created tones that are matching theres studio style. But most of all t help those who asked me to show them how to play it the right way. I love helping people out when and if I can. I was given alot so to give some back is only fair. Watch video 2 of this if you get the chance? Thanks Again!

  • Now that was some clean playing and great tones. Why the pod xt and not the pod xt live? Just curious. I have a zoom g7 and I am considering the pod, just not sure if I should go for the xt or xt live. In case anyone wants to know, the zoom g7 has a few great effects such as flanger, chorus, can run two delays at once, and a great multi tunings tuner, but the amp sims stink for the most part and very wild vol. control issues. Only good for fx or amp sims, not both at the same time.

  • Thanks, I appreciate that. I use the PODxt and PODxt Pro for now. They have everything Ill ever need for now. Its not like the old 2.0 POD. With the model packs its pretty much like the PODxt Live. I have the FBV Shortboard with my equipment along with the Flextone IIIXL 150 Combo amp and that thing it louder than the Marshall Mode 4 I had. It blew up! lol! Then I took it back within the 30 days and traded for this stuff. It does so much more, That I could never go back to regular amps now

  • But why would you wnat to run 2 delays at once? That seems like it would defeat the purpose unless it was like a forward then backwards delay I mean? But the timings seems like they would mess with each other? Never know though until you try it. I like using them without them being noticed all to much. I never have had issues with the PODxt having volume issues or control over anything. They have worked awesome for Live or Recording for me.

  • I run the two delays and get an off beat ping pong delay. I have used it how you mentioned also. I read that Pink Floyd(I think) used that method, with flangers etc. and let them self oscillate to create some of the sounds to songs like breath. Anyways, I saved a person using 4 delays to my fav. list if you wanted to hear what I just tried to explain. keep up the good guitar work.

  • thanks for the info. I am seriously considering a pod xt live, the variax, and a line 6 amp. I want to build a system and play alot of covers, with different tunings etc. I have a 50 watt peavey tube amp, and it sounds great, but you have to crank it. I am in an apartment... I have analog fx, and the zoom g7, and sometimes I can not hear a difference, and other times I can, that means that analog and tube are(as known) great sounding, but pains. Although I do want a marshall jmp-1 one day.

  • When you get into a nice Line 6 Head or amp not the cheaper models. They cant do as much and a bit preset. But you would love the PODxt also or the POD3 from what I hear is awesome also. But you can do anything you want really. I did check out that video, cool stuff for a song that has something to do with aliens? haha! I have heard alot of trouble with dirt getting into the live model and messing up the effects in them? Thats why I have just stayed with the Flextone, PODxt & Pro for now.

  • Im very sure I will get the POD3 though. There very small and do the job well. I hate carrying around heavy ass equipment now as much as I travel and play. 10 minutes setup and teardown time is great! Leaves more time for the partys! lol! I would like to get a Line 6 Head for my Marshall stack though. But that stays out in storage most of the time. The Crate stack does great for in the house. That is when im even using it? You should check out L6 Dl4 Delay Pedal w expression. I use that alot!

  • is that a POD i see?? what kind? i have the old 2.0 model..what do you think of them?

  • Yes its the PODxt model w model packs installed on it. I also have the PODxt rackmount w'model packs, Then I have a FlextoneIIIXL 150 watt combo amp. I love Line 6 stuff! I have had many guitar heads from Crate and Marshall and others that just dont compare to L6, if you create your tones right in them. I just wish you could put model packs into the Flextone amps. But they are still awesome putting the PODxt before the amp live and putting the amp on clean. Theres still nothing I cant do yet

  • hey! i've seen one of your videos and i just cant beleive what i saw. i'm sure you hear this a lot but you're such an inspiration! i couldnt beleive that what i heard was played by a man missing part of his picking arm. ur music is reeally good too!

    keep on rockin'!

  • I had allot of fun doing boh Rhythm & Lead videos to this song. Its the 1st time I did 2 videos like this here on You Tube, but I was very happy with the outcome in sound quality. Ill still do covers in a live version video style, because this takes alot more time and I dont always have that extra time. I havent even had the time to finish Hero of the Day video lesson? lol! I need to get back on the solo lesson part of that one.

    Thank You John!

  • Dude your still kickin ass keep it up.

  • Thanks my friend!

  • amazing sounds man! simply gorgeous...

  • Thanks Dave! I do love this POD XT! It just helps so much doing recordings.

  • This is really beautiful, Dave...and the annotations work great with you and your 'teaching' methods!

    Hugs,

    Joy

  • Thanks Joy! Speaking of teaching? I have to get back and do a couple lessons this week on my other channel? I got really busy doing these 2 videos. Ive also been remaking alot of my tones I lost with that damn virus that wiped me out! Its the only time I hate computers, when crap like that happens! lol! This time im backing them up on disk before I forget to?

  • Great cover man!

    I love def leppard!

You gotta cover poor some sugar!!

  • Thanks!

I will in a couple of weeks or so? I have a few other things coming up right now. I never know anymore what im doing? lol! I get pulled in one direction and kicked to another! haha!

  • I may not be able to? I have a damaged mp3 of it? Im gonna have to find another one before I can cover it. Ill probley have to pay and download it some where?

  • This sounds AWESOME!!! Great use of the interactive tech!!!*****

  • Thanks SIS! Im glad You Tube gave us those to use in the videos, it helps so much!

  • Hey big guy you sound great,,Izzy and Scott think so too.Keep going I like all the details. Did you put that in ? I think I've listen to this about 10 times in a row ...lol

  • Thanks guys! Yes I put all the details in the videos. It took about a day to get that all in right after I posted the video, lol! I also uploaded this recording to my website in stereo. You can download it from the link in the video details here on this video.

  • I love your videos, some of them are like pop up video from mtv with the little bubbles filled with text. I still haven't came up with many lyrics for athens but ive been trying. just wanted to write and let you know im still alive, great cover video!

  • Thanks man! Glad your doing ok. That song is going to be really hard to make lyrics to? It was really made as a intro. Like a solo type thing when your on stage that leads into another full song. Dont kill yourself on it! lol! Those annontations You Tube did for us to use is really a cool thing! I wish they had them when I first started making videos. Now I have so damn many it would take forever to do all of them? But the new ones, it sure helps getting out whats on your mind, alot!

  • Do you know how to play I wanna be your hero. I can play Pour some sugar on me the rhythm parts of Photograph, it sounds like the intro repeats on it through out the song. I can do the intro to Armageddon it but after that it gets confusing.

  • I do know Pour Some Sugar On Me, I dont know the other 2. Photograph I never really did like that much. It was ok when it first came out, but got over played on MTV, and the radio! But there are other Leppard songs I do know. Ill end up doing them all eventually?

  • the rythm parts for Photograph arent that hard. Its the intro, its repeated through out the song You do change up for the choruses and solo. The leads are tough

  • what tab book did you get all these tabs from? i have been lookin for a good def leppard tab book. thanks and great job. real helpful with this song that is amazing with the duel guitars! sweet!

  • Thank you! There is actually 2 really good guitar books of there music. The first one is called "Vault", and the book I got this one from was called "Def Leppard Signature Licks" It comes with a cd also. I bought DefLepSL about 10 years ago, and Vault about 2 years ago. Im sure you can still find them online some where?

  • Sounds great :)

    Leslie~

  • Thank You Leslie!

  • Cool. The annotations work really well on this.

  • Thanks, I tried to point out all the detailed little things of how they play each part in videos 1 & 2. So both videos are understandable then?

  • I dunno the song.. but dang dude, that was awesome! XD

    - Jammy P.

  • You dunno this song? OMG! I forget im getting old! haha! Just kidding! rofl! Theres alot of songs I havent heard of also?

    Thank you Jammy!

    Dave

  • toally awesome bro

  • Thanks Joe!

    Keep up the Jammn Bro!

  • Thanks John!

  • Awesome job Dave!

  • Thanks Tracy! I tried to do the split screen? Well I could use that software, it didnt have it that I seen? But It was also way over 100mb anyways? So I had to do the second video for the rhythm parts to be shown. But its was fun playing both parts! It was harder to try and explain the little things in the video? lol!

  • I always have to use a file converter program after I render it to make it an mov file which is much smaller. I think to do split screen you have to use the video event pan/crop and zoom out to make the vid smaller than the screen on both halves placing them in opposite sides.

  • really good wow

  • Thanks sweety! Glad you liked it!

  • great video/song /great job 5 stars for you thanks to my friend DwgfcdGrmln for sharing

  • Thank you! And for stopping by to liten!

  • awesome playing, I can imagine the time spent nailing this down. Thx dawgfacedgremlin for the share!

  • Thank you! about 3 days for creating the tones for it, since my laptop got wiped out by a virus last week. I had to re create all my tone again? But ive been playing this song for about 10 years? I took awhile though back then!

  • Excellent cover! thanks to dawg for sending~

  • Thanks for stopping by!

  • Thanks for send Dawg :o)tm*****

  • super smooth bro, very impressive!

  • I second that thanks for sending it to me.

  • Thanks my friend!

  • Thanks for sharing it also!

  • Very cool Dave - again the production is so crisp!

  • Thank you! The video sound came out ok? Im putting the recorded mp3 on my website in a minute. Its so much better than how You Tube uploaded it! Its like it took it back to mono version really? The hardest part was shooting the second video of this song to the mp3 note for note. lol! I think it came out pretty good even for a mono version though? Ill let you know when you can go to my website to downlaod the song and here it the true version!

  • Ok its on my website now! You can use the link in the details of this video to go liten to it or download it for free. Wait till you here the difference!

  • Nice Dave nice!

  • Thanks bro!

  • 2nd lol.. good job man

  • Thanks bro!

  • 1rst comment

  • 1st 5star rating also! lol!
