  • How do y'all explain evolution if beings aren't changing now, doesn't science say creatures only produce creatures like themselves? And why haven't animals changed? If evolution were true animals would still be changing

  • @dipnshine I have a very strong feeling that you are just trolling, but I will humor you. The human lifetime is but a mote of dust in regards to gradual evolution, that is why proponents of evolution believe it takes a great deal of time to see change.

  • @dipnshine "How do y'all explain evolution if beings aren't changing now". Animals ARE changing now! You just don't see it because it happens very, very slowly, over many generations, over tens of thousands of years. All life is in a constant state of transition. Take a class in evolutionary biology and do some research--not NOT from pseudo-science organizations like the Discovery Institute!

  • @Mogley52 "Kinds"? Only creationists use that word, to scientists the word "kind" is so vague it's practically meaningless.

  • @Mogley52 Did you know spam is not allowed on YouTube? I think this is the third time I've seen this exact post trolling science-related videos. If you're writing anti-science creationist articles, go pimp them somewhere else. Self-promotion of this sort is not allowed. You're violating the YT terms of service. So you know, I plan on executing a comment search to find all of these, flag them all, and then report you to YouTube. I encourage others to do the same.

  • @Mogley52 Blah blah blah blah evilution blah blah blah BAD blah blah blah God Dun did it blah blah blah. STFU Ray Comfort clone, your emanating stupid and we need less of that, not more. Go read your ONE book, and don't forget to nitpick which passages suit your views again.

  • @Mogley52 Aside from the fact that "kinds" is meaningless, care to explain how exactly the magical barrier that prevents organisms from diverging just short of the point of speciation but no further actually works? You Creationists always claim - or rather imply - that this magical barrier exists, yet never explain how it works. C'mon, entertain us.

  • To copy a number of other comments:

Jesus is in MY school. And yes, he wears a skirt.

  • this crap is basically baby-boomers doubling down on this religious bullshit while they still can...religion in america will be in a very different place a generation or so from now. I doubt you'll see the Hillary Clinton type politicians pretending to go to church and consult scriptures on a daily basis in the near future. There are not enough religious kids these days to keep this nonsense alive

  • How do I get a job with this group? Holy crap. A dream come true.

  • What exactly does Creationism mean to majority of public people?

  • @Lanekat220 Basically it goes like this "Well. . . Science says that the world is older than 6000 years old. . . But I ain't no monkey!"

Translation: "I am uneducated and stayed ignorant through school, but please let me be in peace with my silly beliefs, I know they're stupid but they make me happy, like action films or video games."

  • @crazyinsane500 To make movies and video games, Christian principles had to be broken. You're making "graven images" in each case (light etchings on silver films, patterns of nasty critters imprinted onto silicon chips by lithography!) If a Christian were sincere about his faith, he'd abandon all modern things and sit in a corner sucking his thumb.

  • VenomFangX has a mouth designed by God, it can fit an entire black mans penis in it & have room for another 5!

Oh how our God loves us!

  • Jesus is in my school, he sucks at his janitorial work.

  • Id is not science. It makes statements but never backs it up with the scientific method. It is a lack of understanding, not a trying to find out what is really going on. They would say "teach the controversy(even though there is none)" and "equal time" How about the Theists give us Atheists equal time and let us go into their churches and preach the controversy of their belief system. Unlike theists we can actually back up our statements with science and history.

  • Jesus is in my school, he walks around campus and helps out the teachers from time to time.

  • Jesus is in my school but that is probebly cause I go to a Cristian school.

  • To all christians. As far as intelligent design goes.... who is the designer?

    (eye roll)

  • Why don't you teach the future of america (future?) about the corruption that they live under instead of furthering their ignorance? Teach them about real government instead of that make believe, sugar coated "social studies" class? Teach them about why they are born with a TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS deficit on their heads! Tell them how those trillions were spent, and explain to them that they now owe their lives to a superior race of people! Don't worry, godless education will fix it. right?

  • @MyRightMind Religion has promoted the idea of elitism throughout history. The trillion dollar deficit, and all out other problems have nothing to do with God or Godlessness. However, the Dark Ages did have something to do with God, and so did the Inquisition, and even the Holocaust (how Hitler would say they were chosen by God).

Typical of religious nuts to blame atheism for all the world problems, while ignoring that fact that most of the greatest evils of our history came from religious nuts

  • @Tommy9834 I was not blaming the worlds problems on teaching evolution. I was simply trying to focus on what we should be teaching these kids rather than nit picking a book that suggests the possibility if ID. My point was that we are not correctly focusing our attention. Our children are completely screwed because of our government. We need to intelligently design a "bail out" for them. Not beat down religion.

  • If you're going to teach against intelligent design because it isn't proven, then you need to tighten up the boundaries of what is taught in science altogether. The demarcation problem is not being fairly administered when you teach one viewpoint and not another when neither of them have solid proof. It's a he said she said argument. believers and non-believers are never going to see eye to eye. If I can't teach your kid about my view, then you can't teach my kid about yours. very simple.

  • @MyRightMind ID has not made it through the rigors of the scientific method. Evolution has. There is no great debate within the scientific community, about evolution vs creationism. Only about 3% of scientist, AT MOST, view ID as legit. And they are not top scientists either. Also more importantly, ID is creationism, and that's RELIGIOUS. Separation of church and state remember. If you wanna teach anything religious, do so in the privacy of your home, NOT in PUBLIC schools.

  • @Tommy9834 Exactly. Keep YOUR religious views out too then. You're making these kids pledge allegiance ONE NATION UNDER GOD! Then they sit down and hear that GOD is a fairy tale? INDIVISIBLE! (separation of church and state) LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL! Not just you. What exactly does "FOR WHICH IT STANDS" mean? What does it STAND for? NOTHING!!! Ignorance has buckled this once great nation. We were founded under GOD as we should have remained.

  • @MyRightMind "My religion"? as in the religion of Atheism? Saying atheism is a religion is like say "not playing football is a sport". I don't have a religion and that line "....Under God" was not always part of the pledge, it was added in 1954 and should go back to pre-1954. We were not founded under God, or Allah, Shiva or any other non-existing being. We were founded by principals, such as, freedom of speech, liberty, pursuit of happiness, and separation of church and state and many more.

  • @Tommy9834 Sadly, you are probably more involved in your religion than most Christians are. Just because you're sitting on the bench and not actually "playing" doesn't mean you're not on the team.

  • @MyRightMind What is my religion you keep mentioning? There is a difference between being a bench warmer for you team and not playing the sport at all, as in your not even part of the football team, or playing any sport for that matter. Only desperate fundamentalists try to prove atheism is a religion, that way they can pushing their religion, which is actually a religion, unlike atheism, into public school.

  • @MyRightMind Evolution has several solid proof, creationists and fundamentalist just refuse to accept it. And even if there was a dispute of theory (actually, one theory and one nonsense, creationism don't meet the qualifications of being a theory) the classroom is NOT the place for these discussions, it's the place of teaching the accepted science, and creationism is NOT an accepted science.

    Evolution = Theory

    Theory =/= speculation

    Creationism = speculation

  • @Tommy9834 Evolution does not disprove a creator. Teaching evolution in science would be fine if you didn't denounce God in the process. america is already experiencing enough oppression and tyranny without crushing freedom of religion too. But thank you for at least arguing the point at hand.

  • @MyRightMind public schools should neither promote, or demote the existence of God, it should just not mention it anywhere, unless were teaching about history, or maybe literature. That is freedom of religion, freedom of religion is does not mean allowing one religion to parade over another.

  • @Tommy9834 So you agree with with me that even with the separation of church and state that they should not teach in school that there is no God. That's the bottum line I have been trying to reach. Thank you again for your, rarely found, intelligent conversation. God Bless.

  • @Tommy9834 How is teaching the possibility of intelligent design parading one religion over another?

  • 66 people believe that a flying spaghetti creature created the world in 6 days, only 6 thousand years ago.

  • God created everything that science is learning about itself. It is unbelievable to me that you people are so against teaching intelligent design because it is debatable, and in the same breath you try to teach the big bang theory. The big bang theory has "THEORY' in its title for a reason. It reminds me that you "scientists" used to teach that the earth is flat. Soon it WILL be proven that there IS a creator, and your blasphemy will be greatly punished. Amen.

  • @MyRightMind Do you know what the word "THEORY" means? Theory don't mean "GUESS". That's hypothesis. A theory is a hypothesis, that is taken, tested, experimented, several times, until they get a definite result, that is conclusive to the experiments of other scientist. Then, and only then, do we label anything a "THEORY". If there is no new discovery that contradicts a theory, we later label it a "PRINCIPAL", then after awhile, we call it a "LAW" (Like Newton's LAW, or LAW of Gravity"

  • @Tommy9834 Theory is just speculation. don't confuse it with fact. There is absolutely no way to know how or when the world was created. There is absolutely no way to know what happens after you die. There is only faith and "THEORIES".

  • @MyRightMind No, hypothesis is a speculation. Look it up yourself. The scientific meaning of THEORIES are hypothesis that were put through the rigors of the scientific process, and the result we got from them. So your last sentence should have said, "...faith and GUESSES"

To scientists, facts are just data.

Take a physics class if you don't believe me.

  • @Tommy9834 Those are all brilliant reasons to teach children that God is not real. Why don't you try arguing the point at hand instead of pretending you're a scientist.

  • @MyRightMind And how does that not have anything to do with the argument at hand? Your saying evolution is invalid cause it's called a theory but you don't seem to know the basic scientific term for theory. This is high school level of scientific terminology.

Taking religion out of schools has nothing to do with teaching kids God don't exist, why don't your try and stay on topic.

  • @Tommy9834 and your last sentence should have said "DURR TA DURRRRR!! Once again you have absolutely no point. I have not heard 1 single argument supporting the decision to denounce to the children of america the God that this country was founded on. The God that is mentioned time after time in our country's foundations, included in the pledge of allegiance, and printed on our currency. america itself has turned anti-american. You people are a disgrace.

  • @MyRightMind You want proof that God was not what this country was founded on? Look in the Constitution, it's there in black and white, "Separation of Church and School" Franklin rewrote Jeffferson's initial draft of the Declaration, cause he thought the 1st draft was TOO RELIGIOUS. And how many times do I have to say it, "..under god" "in God we trust" was NOT there since the beginning of this nation, and was added about only 50 years ago, get that through you head. How's that for argument?

  • @MyRightMind So music isn't real? It's called music theory....

  • @75egcg First of all Einstein, music theory is observations and "theories" about music. music is NOT called music theory. Second of all, That is CLEARLY not a sufficient argument to support teaching the children of america that God is not real. Although it is one of the best arguments I've heard so far from your side.

  • @MyRightMind right and saying that god is real because i believe is a sufficient argument? Well americans are pretty fuckin stupid and will believe in it. I think what you're talking about was on idiocracy. Do you also water your feilds with gatorade? Besides there is a such thing as music theory, it's taught in schools, Sir issac newton, music theory is the established practice of music, how it's written and how it's played. What gives you the right to declare something is or isnt a theory

  • @75egcg Thank you for clarifying your social status, and your IQ, and your dementia in one short paragraph. I will pray for you.

  • @MyRightMind and thank you for showing me and other readers how christians think they are better than non-christians and act condesending. Thank you for taking your time to only insult me.

  • @MyRightMind Why do you assume taking god out of schools equals teaching god does not exist? I don't believe in god, but taking religion out of schools includes removal of any teaching that states god don't exist. Public schools need to be neutral, and taking all teaching of god out of schools don't mean that they are teaching god don't exist. God or any religion, should never be mentioned in public schools other then history courses.

  • @MyRightMind That is not at all what music theory is, people observing, music. The internet is like a big dictionary, why dont you look up words? I hate how you christians allways win. You can't respect other people and their beliefs. i'd like to see you and a muslim go at it, i'm sure you fandamentalist christian thinks all muslims are even terrorists whereas you're the good religion, right? You basically proved how righteous you are by insulting me, then telling me what u think music is

  • @75egcg I don't care what music is. I don't "look up words". Christians always win because we have a superior being inside of us. I do respect other peoples beliefs. I'm sure you would like to see me and a Muslim go at it. I know that all Muslims are not terrorists. As far as Christianity being the "good religion", Jesus Christ is recognized in most major religions. I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and I have a personal relationship with God through Jesus. The Holy Spirit lives inside me. Good?

  • @MyRightMind that sounds pretty conceded. There has really been no way that you can talk to me without being like that. you win because you have a superior being? I'm just getting sick of how a secular nation has to live by the rules of a radical majority, and i mean the christians. I'd like to see the country go back to secular status as how it was founded. So what if a person doesnt accept jesus? Is that person less of a being than you are?

  • @MyRightMind "Christians always win because we have a superior being inside of us"

then why did christians lose the Dover trial? Either god wasnt strong enough to win or god thinks intelligent design isnt science......or there is no god and reasoned evaluation of the evidence decided the outcome.

You can present no evidence supporting your belief as accurate therefor your belief is indistinguishable from an imaginary friend.

  • @stiimuli Prove it!

  • @Tommy9834 lol, Intelligent falling versus the theory of gravity. Intelligent fallingists' equation to prove intelligent falling is d1/dx = Corinthians 4:10

  • @Tommy9834 The law of gravity did not denounce every religion in the world! If you throw something up, it comes back down. it's not at all comparable to the creation of everything. It is amazing to me that these are the arguments that support this garbage.

  • @MyRightMind werent science conscious people the ones who discovered the earth was round? And that discovery was so taboo because religion said it was flat?Besides, if you teach kids creationism, which do u teach? Jewish, christian, islam, wiccan? Or would there be a multitude of different intelligent design theories being taught? Cuz if you go and say that an intelligent designer created the world in 6 days, 6 thousands years ago, isnt that a little unfair to kids brought up in diff. religions?

  • @MyRightMind Your religion is fake, and yet you believe. Even if a god was disproved you religious nut cakes would still have faith.....

  • I support the separation of church and schools! Don't let religion stagnate our potential to further science and knowledge.

  • then i guess unintelligent design belongs in a science class room.

  • God help America. LOL

Seriously, I don't get it. I keep hearing that 80% of Americans are Christian. Apart from that shameful statistic (especially in the 21st century) how come if it's so popular, the Atheistic videos always get high ratings and the Christian videos either get REALLY low ratings or the ratings and comments are disabled or "Pending Approval". Unless Americans are a minority on YouTube (seems unlikely though). Is it just that the dumb (religious) Americans don't have PCs???

"I haven't heard opponents of intelligent design make an argument"

Then you are suffering from selective deafness.

  • @navin09 I get the feeling he'd say he wasn't suffering.

  • @MatthewHolmlund

If you ever manage to be cured of your condition, here are some channels you may find to be of interest:

    Thunderf00t

    potholer54

    cdk007

    Good luck to you!

  • I want to get a copy of "Of Pandas and People" just for the laughs I'm bound to find within.

  • fail.

  • i loved creationism when i was a kid.... but then i grew up... as we all do...

  • @Navlek79 unfortunately, it seems that not all have grown up!!!

  • @hifhif123 .... and when we're all grown up... it's our time to play santa and teach creationism..... or maybe help young ones make suicide bombs.... or maybe just write things about intelligent design

  • come to Islam and you will find the perfect answer for your questions

  • Why does religion have to return to schools I mean seriously it's all false info. >_>

  • Good work! It is sad to have to fight for dark age ideas even today. To better fight we must use science to better understand the disease of religion,

  • It's religious. It's is not fact. Simple.

  • Genesis is either the word of God or it's not. Right?

If you state that Genesis is the word of God, then you also must state that every verse within it is the word of God, right?

    Including 1:29

Making plants like marijuana illegal is the same as saying you're better than God, His words aren't good enough for you.

    Just sayin'.

  • @lordnimr0d

You're right; however, I might not have been clear with what I was trying to say. What I was trying to explain is the idea that people have (a suprising lot, too) that an individual organism can evolve in incorrect, or that the theory suggests that it is possible. Once something is born they won't evolve; the change happens between generations.

  • RELIGION. DOES. NOT. BELONG. IN. PUBLIC. SCHOOL. This is NOT up for debate, you stupid right-wing FUCKWADS! Did I say fuckwads? I meant fundies. OOPS. WHY can't they fucking UNDERSTAND?! Go to fucking church, and leave my kids OUT of your FAIRY TALES. Many thanks for these people for keeping that shit out of schools.

  • Keep up the good work!

  • I love being part of a philosophical movement (New Atheism) that just really can't lose in the long run, y'know?

  • Google "Wedge Document" if you don't understand that ID is part of a Dominionist Conspiracy.

  • Wait till china comes and kicks our ass in science and technology, hopefully the bible and koran thumpers will stfu.

  • You know, I truly am worried about that? China and India BOTH are teaching the theory of evolution... and that directly means more doctors and physicians for them!

  • Yes, you will be there, but the fire won't go out.

  • Jolly good stuff: to keep sneaky creationists out of polluting teaching of science

  • ID is nothing more than the spoon full of sugar designed to make the poisonus dogma & doctrine of creationism. to not believe in evolution is akin to willfully and knowingly deluding ones self. If you don't "believe" in evolution, you might as well not believe in chemistry, biology, or geology.

  • Morons

  • INTELLEGENT FALLING I SAY! INTELLEGENT FALLING! GRAVITY IS A LIE! If they teach "intellegent design" along side evolution, then they need to teach "intellegent falling" along side gravity, let the children have a choice! RAMEN!

  • if god created everything about me then why would he send me to hell for just being me?

If i am violent it is because he made me that way.

  • Yup, he is toying you. How nice he is. LOL

  • Wanda you ignorant twat. If someone wants their child to answer every question with "God" or "Jesus" then THEY HAVE THE OPTION TO SEND THEM TO A CHRISTIAN/CATHOLIC SCHOOL. Public schools deal with fact, not fairy tales.

  • *smacks head against a brick wall*

  • You're a silly faith-based moron, please stop embarrassing yourself. You know nothing.

  • And by the way, dumbass - there are mountains of evidence supporting Evolution, there is none supporting creationism, apart from religious dogma.

  • Organisms don't evolve. Populations evolve. Go learn some biology and stop polluting the internet with your ignorance.

  • really? organisms dont evolve? then explain why swine flu didnt exist 5 years ago moron.

  • No, individual organisms do not evolve. In the case of swine flu, like all virii, it infects a host cell and its DNA mutates during the process of replication. The new traits are in the offspring, not the original virus, which is essentially destroyed in the process of infecting the host cell.

I appreciate you defending evolution, but you aren't helping by advertising your ignorance. Again, the POPULATION of virii that became swine flu evolved, not individual virii.

  • My ignorance?? Religious people are the most ignorant people in the entire world! Do you even know what a population is? A population is a group of many of the same organism living in a place. A population can't evolve unless unless a single organism in that population does first! I don't need to be a biology expert to know how to think logically and use common sense.

  • Um, yes, you DO need to take a biology class to understand evolution. And I'm not religious. I have been correcting a common misconception about evolution. You are an individual. You do not evolve. Your traits are pretty much fixed. There is some mutation during the reproductive process and IF those mutations are passed on to your offspring, THAT is when evolution takes place. IF those mutations confer some kind of benefit they will be selected to be passed on to further generations.

  • Organisms do evolve; what he is trying to say is that individual organisms do not evolve. That is, once an organism is born, it will not change it's genome. A change in the genome only happens when the organism reproduces. Evolution happens when there is a change in the frequency of alleles within a population. It is measured within a population of organisms, not a single orgaism.

  • It did 90 years ago, the 1918 flu was also an H1N1. The reason it "evolved" (not a living organism so use of quotations) was due to viral recombination (an antigenic shift event).

  • Oh come now, there has been vast debate over whehterh viruses are living!

  • Do you know why the creationist students are failing in our high schools and collages? Because most of them teach evolution!!! If you don't believe in evolution (or at least pretend to) you're history! I have heard countless stories of my friends' kids getting F's on everything from homework to tests because they didn't use evolution as the premisis for their answers. They used God. That is why they are failing.

  • Collages? really? Collages?

  • Well of course they will fail if they use "God" as proof for they're answer.

If they did not give an F to such answer we would end up with rockets going to the moon "With the grace of god" and we would slowly forget how to make them work properly and we would get a brand new dark age. Joy!!!

Anyway, yes they get an F, yes they deserve an F. Now if they base they're argumentations in favor of a divergent opinion and that this opinion use the scientific method to be proved. They might deserve C

  • Wanda Wanda Wanda.

I wouldn't pass them just like you wouldn't pass someone that used Buddhist, Zionist, or Islamic (same god supposedly) principles to answer their work.

  • Generally ... if you answer a question in science class with theology, you're doing it wrong. They're distinctly separate subjects. Science is very empirical, while theology is intuitive. They're two distinct methodologies for acquiring information. What your friends' kids are doing is akin to writing English papers in the language of Algebra.

  • In other words, they failed because they are morons. Well, that's how it works, and it's absolutely fair.

  • Do you think they shouldn't fail? Should we allow poetry as a substitute for math should the child choose to not show their work? Or maybe we should send them to prestigious universities for smartass answers too, such as when they circle the variable when asked to find x and y.

  • If a typical Creationist had a 10 year old kid who was seriously ill and they were told they could EITHER a) Pray for a cure or b) Go to a well equipped modern hospital full of scientific equipment, which would they choose?

  • It is a Hobson's Choice but sanity says hopital, madness says Dr. Jesus.

    Dr. Jesus is impotent

    Creationism means Dr. Jesus

    Creationism is impotent

  • Unfortunately, too many still choose prayer. And too many who do BOTH profess that it was the prayer that saved their kids.

  • I would pray on my way to the hospital.

  • Ya, the government still managed to put "in god we trust" on the US coins about 50 years back. You just watch, creationism will soon replace evolutionism, and when it does, I'm getting the heck off this continent and as far away from the US as I can before it turns into a second Iraq.

  • There are openings in Nigeria, Somalia and Ceylon. Laos is open and Yemen needs a few. Or you might want to sneak into Ko'sovo or even Chechnya.

  • My two previous comments were for Eastmanarium and NoAntecessor respectively. Why can't You Tube be consistent in the way posts and replies show up? Anyway, I've encountered a reasonable man, so it's time to move on.

  • "And NCSE Is going to be there until everyone thinks alike."

Can't we just get along? Theres gonna be an easier way...split class rooms, send your kid to god school, do something. Just don't fight about it...Because it really doesn't help a damn thing.

  • The USA is the only country that really is involved with Creationism.. What kind of education is being taught....?

  • stupid creationists

  • Why would you do research and look for proof that the books were the same? Going about it in a scientific manner just makes no sense. You would have won over a lot more people if you had just said "God made both books."

  • Ha! That was classic... ; )

  • we have the fossils. we win. deal with it. evolution isn't a religion it's a fact so teaching it does no harm to the separation of church and state. creationism is pure religious indoctrination backed up by no facts and throwing out solid science in favor of religious superstition is the first step towards a theocracy. it's very simple. you only have trouble understanding because yo. don't want to get the point.

  • if godheads want to indoctrinate their children they can take them to church and do it there, they've got no right to use public tax dollars to attempt to indoctrinate other people's children in a public school! wtf is wrong with these ppl that they can't understand such a simple principle? merging the church and state, as they want to do, is the single best way to end up like iran where clerics can order people shot for demanding their rights!

  • Public education is all about indoctrination. The only question at any given time is whose "doctrine" is being pushed. These people are no less dangerous than the creationists as they can't abide any other viewpoint than their own and must actively silence those whose views don't agree with theirs.

Also, creationists pay some of those "public tax dollars", should they not have any representation in the things for which they pay?

  • that statement is a flat out LIE

there is no silence of opposing views in science, not if it is in the parameters of science, and doesn't refute the facts or comply with the observations.

"Also, creationists pay some of those "public tax dollars", should they not have any representation in the things for which they pay?"

They do have representation, they have congressmen and senators and school board members. But, a representative cannot push their agenda if it is unconstitutional and illegal

  • Please tell me that you and scupt2live are not that naive.

  • You already got representation for creationism

    check this out

    watch?v=jI84QIda6fc

  • "Also, creationists pay some of those "public tax dollars", should they not have any representation in the things for which they pay?"

I can't remember who said this, but it is true: Science is not a democracy. Public opinion doesn't change the facts, nor do the opinions of the people funding it. Science studies reality. Having any sort of bias makes it pseudoscience.

  • Science as an ideal concept, sure, but in the real world science is conducted, presented, and interpreted by people with political, economic, and cultural influences as well as their own opinions and agendas. What bothers me about the NCSE is the emotional content of this video including the imagery of stamping out "fires" (viewpoints other than their own). Sounds like a crusade.

  • You make it sound almost as though there is a conspiracy to silence any challenge to evolution. I might agree if creationism was in any way a valid concept, but it's not. It has no evidence supporting it, it violates the separation of church and state, and it slows scientific progress. Creationism's lack of success isn't because evolution is being protected, but rather it is because creationism just sucks.

  • It's like accusing a place like Harvard of discrimination just because they rejected the application of a student with no extracurriculars and an IQ of 60. If the classroom was a night club and NCSE was a bouncer, then creationism is a poorly dressed, obnoxious drunk who appears to have crapped his pants. Of course he's not getting into the club. I'll admit, there may be some bias in the scientific community. That doesn't change the fact that creationism has nothing going for it.

  • "Creationism just sucks." "..poorly dressed, obnoxious drunk who appears to have crapped his pants." I wonder if your objections aren't more visceral than rational.

  • I stand by my statements. Saying "God did it" is essentially giving up on the pursuit of knowledge. Creationism will not increase mankind's understanding of the universe. Nor does it offer any practical applications; knowledge gained through evolution, on the other hand, helps us in fields ranging from medicine to engineering.

  • Even in religion, most Christians don't believe it necessary to accept the Genesis account literally in order to get into heaven. Did Jesus not say that we need only accept his gift in order to recieve salvation? Creationism is unnecessary spiritually and detrimental in science and society. So allow me to repeat myself: Creationism sucks.

  • Saying "God did it" doesn't prevent one from exploring all the intracacies and complexities of the mechanisms and relationships of that creation through the lens of all the scientific disciplines including biology, genetics, paleontology, archeology, and anthropology. But all that is beside the point, anyway. I don't have a problem with NSCE's advocating a particular viewpoint. What I object to is the appearance that their mission is to extinguish rather than persuade.

  • I partly agree to your first point. However, if one assumes a supernatural cause, they may fail to notice natural causes. In more extreme cases, one may even attempt to manipulate the data to support a supernatural cause. As to the NSCE, what do you expect them to do? Creationism is not scientific and is religious at it's roots, so it violates the separation of church and state. It is against the law.

  • The "fires" they speak of are pseudosciences, such as creationism and intelligent design, not "viewpoints other than their own."

What you don't get is that evolution isn't a "viewpoint." It's a well-established scientific theory and all efforts to oppose it, without scientific evidence, SHOULD be "stomped out."

  • Nonsense. You speak the language of intolerance and oppression and, ultimately, persecution. I think artful persuasion is a more effective means of changing people's minds. Unless you are suggesting that evolution cannot stand on its own merits and can only "win" against creationism using strongarm tactics?

Truth is, evolution IS "winning" and it's because more and more people, even those of faith, are being persuaded by the foundations of the theory in various disciplines.

  • I'm not speaking a language of intolerance, oppression, or even persecution. What's important is keeping scientific theories in schools and pseudosciences out.

What is so hard to grasp about that?

  • I understand you perfectly. When you speak of ideas that must be "stomped out" you are indeed speaking a language of intolerance, suppression, oppression, and persecution. Which was my original beef with the NCSE as presented in this video.

  • Evolution is absolutely robust enough to win any argument versus creationism, but debates *must* take place in the proper forums (at post-secondary levels). Elementary and high school is not the place to challenge theories, it's the place to figure out a basic understanding of them.

  • Thank you for making a reasonable argument. I doubt we would initially agree on the details as to the parameters of the discussion (which I far prefer to debate) or the particulars of the proper forums, but we would be able to have a rational, respectful, useful discussion with a good prospect of coming to an agreement.

  • I wonder, if there did not exist a people whose agenda was to push forth the notion that science is riddled with holes and not to be trusted, would the majority of us who study it do so? With out the creationists, I wouldn't know half of what I know about evolution. I think "stomping it out" would actually be counter productive. We need to assist others in their scientific knowledge, explaining terms, asking questions, and pushing for truth.

  • Exactly. I knew very little about evolution or how it works before getting into these 'debates.' I would have even asked some of the questions they pose as problems for the theory. The oppostion illuminated it's own absurdity and helped me understand evolution so much better and why it works and makes sense. Thanks, creationists!

  • nope, but u know that lovely back bone u have? Guess what, the first models of those where in fishes and those traits got passed because they worked well.

  • hahahahaha!

  • YOU ARE WALKING THE LINE.

  • Idiot.

  • "O.F. P.A.N.D.A.S. A.N.D. P.E.O.P.L.E. = "Overwhelming Facts"

Name one "fact" that necessitates a designer.

  • Surrrre, and the the world is flat, earth is the center of the universe and michael jackson never got plastic surgery.

  • Thank God for the N.C.S.E.!

  • Why are Christians trying to block science from being teched? Are there afraid that their children might be tricked? I thought the bible made sense...

  • Yeah, but evolution teaches against the creation story. no gardern of Eden, no talking snake, no magic fruit, no original sin.

no original sin=no need for jesus to die on the cross

they know how silly their book is, they just dont want other people to be educated enough to work it out.

  • "they know how silly their book is"

Sadly, I think you are wrong on this point.

  • No it dosnt

  • Evolution is the process in which life changes. It goes no where into the depths of how the world first began
