I work with turbine engines, which is the same principle: its forbidden to start the turbine while there are people in the same room...

I haven't tried jet engines but even a petrol engine on a kids go kart can get scary at speed, 47mph might sound slow but not on something like that it isnt, most of these small turbines only kick out 30 or 40lbs thrust so they pick up speed really slowly, dont knock it till you've tried it i say.
