The file not found issue was NOT simple. People were NOT just typing stuff in wrong. Stand by your work and ensure that 80% or more of the comments you receive don't negatively impact the reputation of the method.

Instead of doing the terminal emulator step, during the TELNET step, type this instead. mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system cd sdcard flash_image recovery recovery.img cat recovery.img > /system/recovery.img

then, hit HOME and power off your phone.

Power it back up by holding the HOME and POWER button at the same time, then release. It was install everything and then prompt you to press HOME and BACK to reboot.

Then you are done rooting!

Make sure your SD card is mounted. For some reason mine wasn't at that point and I turned my G1 off, took the SDcard out and put it back in, and did it over.

Everyone having problems: Check for errors with spaces, or lack of, when typing commands. Good Luck! Having root will give you control of what you can do with the phone versus the phone company! I have been using cupcake for a couple of days and let me tell you its the BEST!! i love it thanks alot "CoolPsTuts" but there are some slight problems, it keeps restarting and sometimes it freezes, but i think i successfully fixed it after hours of trying and what i did is after completeing the cupcake 1.5 update i back up my memory photo and music files then i wiped the memory card again then i put back only music and photo no additional software cause i think that cause the problems.

why does the title say jailbreak. the only jailbreakable device was the iphone/ipod touch. this is the Tmobile G1. therefore you have no jailbreak or mod for that matter

Mad, you strike a good point. the term "jailbreak" was pretty exlusive to the Iphone for a short while, but the methods decribed in that terminology also reflect that of "hacking" the G1. therefor it's Common place to also Jailbreak your g1.

( remember "bandaids" are just a brand of adhesive strips) but we call them all "bandaids" despite their brand.

Cabadude, all you need to do is put your sd card in another phone, take out the update file, put the DREAIMG.NBH file in there... put the sd card back into your g1... and press the power and camera button.. and you'll be back to normal!

This video is brilliant, i managed to change my G1 from a RC9 to an RC30, exactly like on this video. And it works fine.

But I was being quite stupid and realised i don't know anything about modding and jailbreaking and what it does.

so i was wondering if you can please tell me if there is a way to restore the RC30 back to the Original RC9?

If you can't do this than can you please let me know what specific things you can do with the G1 jailbreaked

But please let me know its reversible
