The infantry isn't the biggest portion of the Marine Corps. Its the minority compared to the supporting positions. You're either infantry or you're infantry support (which is everything else). The reason infantry goes so fast is because it is so small. I scored an 82 on my ASVAB and my recruiter wanted me going intel or counter-intel but i chose Infantry because that's what i want to do. Hopefully i get the NROTC scholarship though and go in as 2nd Lt. I ship June 15, 2009!!!
lol youre gonna have to earn that. just cause you go through some sissy civilian rotc it will only get you PFC.
High PFT and intelligence will get you to OCS, your one try and 2nd LT, nothing is just given. Most Marines save that one opportunity at commission till after they become veteran grunts.
actually i didn't do ROTC : ) I'm hoping to get at least two referrals and go in as a PFC just in case I am not inducted into the NROTC program. I have full confidence I will be because my test scores are very high plus i'm a minority (verbatim of recruiters suggestion to me). I scored fairly well on my SAT (plan to take it again though to score a little higher) and my line score are good too. If not the Naval Academy or West Point.... I'll just go to a more local University such as USC.
of course you don't rely on your IQ. There are other qualifications... and i surpass all of them except for the one qualification of being a Marine. Which I plan on achieving in June-August of 2009. I'd be happy with staying Infantry but if I do excepted into the NROTC program that'd be great as well. Nothing can really beat getting paid to go to college.
There is a difference between being willing to die for your country and being willing to die for bullshit. Also depends on what your country stands for. Would you fight against Christian Serbs to help Muslim Albanians? I would rather defect to the Serbs and kill Americans, personally. We are shit on the most tough, but have the bragging rights, we're the tip of the spear, everyone else in the USMC supports the 0311.
the reason the recruiters are against is...they need more smart people in other fields, the infantry is hogging them all up, its the biggest field.
