@Sweattdesigns Yes, you will definitely get 3 stars if you don't have any penalties and beat the normal ghost time. Although I don't know other courses max times absolutely, I can say if the normal ghost time is around 1:30-2:00, then add about 5 seconds and round off for the max time. Normal Ghost time around 2:00-2:30, then add about 10 seconds and round off. 2:30-3:00 add about 15 seconds and round off.
So most of the time you can be slower than the normal ghost time even without bonuses.
@robertchay15 Yes, it does. But I think if you race one cup race over and over I think it starts to make the CPU's easier. I raced the 150cc Banana Cup hundreds of times testing how to get 3 stars and it seems to be easier than when I switched to a new license.
@XxBroBuzzxX Good catch! I copied and pasted the text from my "150cc Mushroom Cup (with Max times)" and forgot to change the race to Delfino Square. Even though the course name is incorrect, the max times and analysis is correct. Thanks for alerting my to my mistake.
@thyponge55 No, but I have a bum shoulder and playing automatic lets me play for longer periods of time. I've only playing manual on a very limited basis.
@thyponge55 I usually assume that I won't need to start from a dead stop too often so I go with faster vehicles that handle fairly well (and terrible acceleration). So for middleweight I like Daisy on the Mach bike and for heavyweight I usually go with Funky Kong on the Flame Runner. But if you're racing online, and can't lead most of the races, then a bike with faster acceleration is better.
@miniman1676 I have a shoulder injury that flares up when I push the 1 & 2 button (together) too often. I hate the nunchuk and don't have a classic controller or game cube controller. I also find using the B button makes it very hard to hold activated items behind the vehicle. So for me to be able to play for more time I just use automatic and suffer without the manual drift boost. :(

I know DarkMitarWii and I wonder what the penalties are for other mobile hazards like cows, cars (Moonview Highway), and bats (Dry Dry Ruins and Wario's Gold Mine). Also what are the max times for other cups? What is the max time for the 50cc Sherbet Land? What are the hazard penalties for 50cc? What are the falling penalty times for 50cc & 100cc? There are still so many unresolved questions. So test whatever interests you.
