Hmm I wish people would begin to see how VASTLY overrated this film is, not even slightly on par with Night of the Living Dead, it feels more like 'The Breakfast Club' than a scary horror/ zombie film. For me this film would be lucky to get 1 star...
You review this movie like its a comedy. You have completely missed the point of this movie, stick to the remake, you might be able to understand that one
I went to see it not expecting much, and while it did piss me off here and there (for example, making the white girl the leader instead of Ving Rhames), I was quite impressed with how gory and intense it was. Love the out of control chainsaw in the back of the van/truck scene.
Actually when Ebert FIRST reviewed the movie in 1978 on the Siskel and Ebert show, he gave it a "Thumbs Down." Siskel diagreed with him. Ebert changed his mind later, which he does sometimes. Ebert is my favorite movie critic. I disagree with him sometimes on "thumbs down," but every movie he likes I also like. I'm glad he came around for this one.
how could it be 3 stars it has to be 5 stars and by the way you should get more into detail about the movies and you wont give it a good rating just because its not scary
I was scared when I first saw this movie and now I just love it so much. I am not gonna say to the person who made this review "You suck" or insult him because we all have our own opinions. Personally, I love this film. It's the greatest ever made. I even made a social network dedicated to the film and fans of this film. Personally, you can't be a horror film fan and NOT like this movie, I'm sorry.
Saying that this film is not scary, is like saying rape does not happen in big cities.
Dawn of the Dead is more psychologically disturbing, than it is visually. Although, there are a lot of shots that would make most "Hardcore Horror Movie Fans" of today piss themselves in cold fear. Like the department store scene, which was so well shot, that I still get chills thinking of the effect that scene gave me as a kid.
I think this was one of his best. I think he meant it to be "hacky" to be both funny and serious at the same time. A lot of films, music, and books from the 1970s and 1980s had a theme mix of Comdey & Seriousness. By the 1990's everything got all one sided and was overly dark, now after 2000 things are overly produced and too light. Anyway, I think Romero didn't want to take himself too seriously and he wanted this film to be a little campy. I give Dawn Of the Dead an "A".
Its a cult classic. Saying that it doesen't stand up to today's films just doesen't work.
George Romero is the father of zombie movies and Dawn, being a great work that is able to make fun of consumer culture and at the same time be what any zombie movie should try to live up to.
This reviewer obviously knows nothing about horror films at all. He (or she?) has failed to take into consideration the time period in which Dawn of the dead came out. He (or she) has totally missed the films commentary on consumerism in america. (If thats not scary I don't know what is). He/she it has no business reviewing any horror film let alone Dawn
Dawn of the dead is a so called classic. Exactly why it is considered a classic is beyond me. People say it was gory: it wasn't. It's said to be a satire on American consumerism: it feels dogmatic and stale.
If you really want to see a great zombie movie, see 28 days later. It's the pinnacle of the zombie genre.
What a shitty review, and I'm not just saying that because you vastly underrated the movie; I'm saying it because you say NOTHING in this review. And 3 stars being generous? You have no taste.
being generous?? for three stars?? dude, just stop doing reviews. So what if it wasn't "scary" a great horror movie doesn't have to be. a lot of parts were intense and but also had the perfect mix of humour in there too. it is a masterpiece of a film and i'm actually studying it in filmography.
this fool is a piece of shit hater. this movie is a billion skulls. its a fuckin masterpiece. this fool cant review shit. he should review these nutz.
You are an ASSHOLE, "MonsterReviews", every serious Horror loves Dawn of the Dead, exept you...if u were in the "SCHMUCK" world contest, you would come in 2nd place, why? second place, 'cause your a "SCHMUK!"
3? it deserves 5, for one thing it was hilarious, and may have not been scary for you, but it came out in 1978, and that stuff would scare the shit out of people
Really impertinante review. I respect your opinion but you should explain it better. You have no idea what your talking about. And if you really do, then prove it!
3 skulls??? are you retarded? the humor was wonderful in this movie and it was the perfect blend of horror and comic relif. you must have VERY narrow taste in movies or at least horror to just give it a 3 of 5. i don't know about you but i think this is one of the best horror movies of all time just for the story, gore, humor and just the movie being differnt from other horror movies. you don't need JUST gore and volience to make a good horror movie. 5 out of 5 for me
Think you need to go to film school, do some more research, or at least have a written review to read from before you record a review for films. Mainly because you are obviously making up the review as you speak, and it comes across like you have no idea what ur talking about and no clue about the film. Three out of five for this movie is pure sacrilage; it is probably George Romero's greatest achievement and a cult classic.
considering your watching a film from the 70's i think your reviews very narrow, for its time there was alot of drama and gore, effects and age aside this still is an excellent film that use's concepts the modern viewer is needing less and less, drama!.
as you dont seem to know alot about "zombie films" and seem to be more of a superficial viewer i will give your review a rating of 2 stars....and im being generous
This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. This is by far, still, the best zombie movie ever made.
Scary? Come on! No such thing with zombies. Hilarious, absolutely. In fact I think this is the second funniest movie ever made. Only Commando is funnier. I can watch it again and again and cry from the laughter everytime. Especially the headshot. N.O.T.L.D. is the O.G. of zombie movies. D.O.T.D. created the standard by which all are made!
This Was A Fantastic Movie! A Pure Classic And The Only One Of The Dead Movies I Have Yet To See Is Diary Which I Will Own As Soon As It Comes To DVD. My Fave Char In The Movie Is Of Course Peter Aka Ken Foree He Is Just So Bad Ass In This Movie And The Way He Doesnt Go Out Like A Punk And Fights His Way Out In The End Was Amazing To Me. George A Romero Is A True Genious When It Comes To These Type Of Movies And Im Sure He Is A Cultural Icon And A Big Influence To Many Horror/Gore DirectorsToday
