  • Great version!!! And I love your machine! I am jealous!! "Garrard" was a great quality.. Thanks! :)))

  • Nice sound. To me, the way that turntable looks, especially the tone-arm, is more mid-70s style than late 60s. Or maybe Garrard styling was just ahead of its time!

  • @margaretsville Yes I agree...It does have the 70's look but it is from the 60's...It came in as a repair with a faulty tone control...The control had to be replaced under guarantee but the customer didn't come back to collect it! So after 6 months of it sitting on a shelf my dear old Dad bought it home and gave it to my Mum...This was just after I was born in 1968...Its the first record player I ever new...Really pleased I have it...So many memories attached to it! Thanks for commenting! :)

  • Something about these "Studio 2 Stereo" LP's and a Garrard turntable just go together well. Maybe it's because I've played so many London Phase Four's on mine! Fantastic sound quality here.

  • @gjamieson78 I agree with you about Studio 2...I've got loads of Phase 4 myself.

This old Ultra record player is very special to me...It belonged to my parents and played us all the way through the end of the 60's and right through till 1981...The deck and cabinet have never been touched...But the amp has had a few new transistors.

My Dad changed the mono right channel output socket to stereo when I was a kid...It is a nice sounding old machine and captures well.

  • Norrie really was the prince of producers. Am I right in thinking he produced a lot of the Shadows stuff?

  • @filsgreen Yes he did...An amazing man...He produced music for many people!

  • Back again for my nearly nightly listen. Thank you again for posting this!!

  • @honfleur214 My pleasure! It is a beautiful track!

If you want a nice high quality MP3 rip of the record send me a private message and I'll email it to you.

  • Note that the base and chord progressions are very similar to those at the end of each verse in Andrew Gold's "Thank You for Being a Friend" (big US hit in '78, don't know how far it got in the UK). If you're going to "borrow" something, at least make it something good!

  • Absolutely love, love, love this piece of music !! Great sound quality in your posting. Thank you so much for making it available.

  • @honfleur214 Yes...It is a beautiful track! I fell in love with it first time I heard it played.

Thanks for taking the time to comment! :)

  • I've got this on a copy of Impact somewhere but no turntable to play it on! A stunning recording, and great quality. Thanks for posting.

  • @a449 My pleasure! Thank You!!! :)

Yes it is a stunning track...I love it!

I spend half my life restoring and repairing record players...I don't think I'd like it very much without the ability to play my records...Hope you put it right soon! We must keep those records spinning!!! :)

  • I actually have 'Impact' on record - original. Courtesy of my lovely parents. And I so love this song! Thank you for posting it.

  • @MrPelleas1 My Pleasure! My first copy of Impact came to me via my lovely Grand Parents although this record player was my Mothers...She gave up records years ago and has become all digital now...haha!!!

    Thanks for commenting!!! :)

  • I have looked for this track for at least 40 years, this version ! I will have to now try and hunt it down - excellent posting...

  • @tubeie07 Thanks! It is on a 'Studio 2' Sampler called 'Impact'...Its also the first track on this album called 'Soul Coaxing'...They turn up on eBay all the time! If you want an MP3 of this track send me a personal message on here and I'll email it to you :)

  • This is the best version of this wonderful song, super quality recording. I wonder why it's not available to buy or download.

  • @jon9591 I agree! So many Superb tracks are lost to modern media!

But these 60's Studio 2 Records really do sound Superb if you have equipment to play them on!

I have an even cleaner version of this record that I ripped using a 'Modern' direct drive turntable and magnetic cartridge....The old Ultra is good for its day....But I can do better!

If you'd like an MP3 of this track...It would be a pleasure to email you one!

Send me a personal message on here if you do :)

    Thanks for commenting!!! :)

  • Just one question; what type of phono cartridge is mounted in your Garrard, ceramic or magnetic? Due to the excellent sound quality I suspect magnetic. Another reason I suspected digital fraud is that there is virtually no surface noise or turntable motor hum present in the audio track of your first video. This is quite unusual. Merry Christmas to you Sir.

  • I am indeed sorry for my false accusation concerning the analog audio track of this song in your first video being replaced with a digital one. This was my mistake so now I will follow up with a compliment. You did an excellent job editing your first video and proving why I was wrong in your second. You are a man of 'YouTube' integrity.

  • This would have been a good video if you hadn't switched the audio to a separate mp3 of this song at the beginning. We would have liked to hear the record playing straight from the player instead of an Itunes track.

  • @ShitFromShinolla I'm sorry you didn't like it!

This is the audio from the record captured at the same time I was filming.

You can't download this track from iTunes!

If you look at the rear right of the record player you will see a green Plug.

That is connected to the audio input of my PC.

I captured the sound on a program called Audacity and over laid it on the video at the same time I added the still picture at the start.

I you want I will make a video for you showing the process?

  • @ShitFromShinolla I have made you a video response regarding your comment.

I hope it will satisfy you :)

  • Excellent sound quality from that old Garrard, especially for it being a changer.

  • @727JeffN Thanks Jeff...I only made this channel because of you! :)

You said I should make some videos of these old machines...haha!!!

Remember I sent you 'Boots' on my other channel?

Yes the sound from the old Ultra is excellent when you use the stereo jack and capture with the PC...It wasn't before I changed a couple of the transistors though!

It had quite a hiss and a bit of a crackle...But a little TLC and she's all good now!

Thanks for the comment and keep up the good work!!!
