the last time i rode the 87 was the 111. the bus id alawyas catch would be an old bus with the same driver it was usually an 89 but one day i got a 87.
so far, I only know 8790 and 8798, and 8799 have been retired. They are currently sitting in Jurassic Park. Their are more scheduled to be retired, but I am hoping that when this strike ends, the whole 87xx fleet doesn't disappear. Also Merivale probably has like one or two GM Classics, and st.l complex probably has the rest (though that is bad...)
that may be so but without the garage staff to jockey the buses they haven't been able to pull them out of there, the 87's were due to be safetied on dec 31, and replaced by the hybrid's according to a few mechanic buddies half of the 89's are going as well, but on dec 4th i killed 2 87's for safety reasons and they pulled the plates off them right there, so once we go back they're pretty much done and gone
Well, the GM Classic units that were scheduled to retirement in 2008 were: 8779, 8781, 8783, 8786, 8790, 8791, 8795, 8796, 8798 and 8799, and the rest of the GM Classic fleet that would of been retired by September 08 are 8769, 8773, 8775, 8792 and 8793 but since some were spotted in Oct-Dec, I hope at least one or two will make it after the strike. (Knowning OC Transpo, since our GM New Look Fishies (the silversides) were wiped out so fast, I doubt it. :/ )
it'll probably be kind of hard since they are slowly being retired, and there isn't many of them left in service. this bus was chartered today, and performed well on the highway 417 from St.Laurent Blvd to Woodroffe.
did they retire the bus last year? becus i haven't seen this kind of bus for like a year and a half

when i took the 60 this morning the dude brought this kind of bus...it was the 8792 i think. kinda funny because a 4520 flew bus on the highway

You would be correct. The only 1987 bus we have left is 8792. It's also the oldest bus in the entire fleet.

Add 10 more years to that and you have the oldest GM Fishbowls in Calgary, Edmonton too!

87's have all been decomissioned effective dec 31 '08, most of em wouldn't pass the safety anyway, all but 2 of them went for scrap
milicand 3 years ago
No, that is false.
newflyer800 3 years ago
Well they were planning to retire them all by the end of this year but that hasn't happened yet.
Breeze646 3 years ago
I hope they keep some of them a bit longer.
newflyer800 3 years ago
I wanna ride one of those!

cool, when do u think all of the GM classics will be retired?
gathy222 3 years ago
probably when the new Orion VII HEV starts arriving in 2009, or before the double deckers are put into service.
