no im not and i was agreeing with you if you look at the beginning of my statement i was simply elaborateness on what you had said because you missed the key fact that anyone can learn to move there strumming hand as fast as they want but if the dont have the skill and dedication to get there fretting hand in gear then they are missing the whole point
dumb comment. I'd like to see you argue that point to violin players and classical players, they'd laugh at you....i don't try to LIMIT the guitar's potential by JUST working on "soul", and "feel". the feel and soul is in you. technique is what sends it out the speakers.
and if practicing to play fast inhibits you from executing good "feel???" (dynamics, timing, expression, ext.), then you're not using the proper technique.
it hours of repetition you say? well that's because it's hard.
If i asked what violist and classical music players think about a completely different instrument and style of music, your reply might actually make some sense to me, but, it doesn't, you dumb, dumb faggot. Playing fast is not hard. You sit there and practice scales for hours, anyone can get good at it. I find that shredding is easiest thing to do in a musical sense, because it requires little thought.
i'm talking about general MUSICAL principles for all 4 tone+ string instruments . YOU LIMIT GUITAR in your brain.
there is no point in me bringing up new points since you appear to not be able to process them. you have not replied to my specific and INFORMED points about the musical advantages and practicality of improving ones technique.
it appears you view your thoughts on "feel" and "soul" as a religion. that is sad.
you have said nothing new, this comment looks just like your first
kinda seems like your personal preference really. shred isn't shitty...the guitarists are bad musicians, you just don't like their music. buckethead and tony macalpine make great music, but i can see how people might not like them. chris brown is a bad musician. britney spears is a bad musician. the jonas brothers are bad musicians. maybe your sentence should've been something along the lines of, "blues soloing is more like it. you're probably thinking of fuckin, shitty, chris brown gayness."
oh yeah, i completely understand actually. i'm not a huge fan of like yngwie or rusty and the like. that kind of music gets really monotonous very quickly.
i started in metal....doing sweeps and stuff, i got a good bit of technique but you have to play other music like jazz and blues to become a great musician, and that's just the tip of the iceberg
I love jazz, blues too but not nearly as much as jazz. Last year was a real eyeopener for me because I joined the jazz band. I've been up to my eyeballs in jazz fusion ever since. Btw, in metal, I hate sweeps...they sound so annoying. All I'm saying is that there is no merit in calling shred solos shitty. People can say there is no thought or emotion in it at all, but the effort put into playing that fast is just amazing and deserves everyone's respect, whether it is liked or not.
And besides, soooo many guitarists who "play slow and melodic" just rip off from the originals. There are few guitarists who play slowly in an original way such as Chris Poland or Marty Friedman (both former guitarists of Megadeth, a METAL band), while everyone else just wanks the blues scale using Hendrix/Clapton/SRV licks.
This isn't shredding. This is one pedal effect after another mixed in with a pinch of vibrato

Words of a jealous man. An inability to play a type of music is not a reason to hate that music.

a metalist is more likely to be a better blues player than a blues player. metal is build off blues, rock and classical (some what the last one).

No it's not? All that takes is hours of repetition. You don't get feel and soul from practice

"shitty metal shred". Lol. The closed-mindedness and envy in that statement made me l-o-l. If it's so shitty, let's see you play a metal solo.
