Late 80's and early 90's was the most interesting time for house, tecno etc..... It was a great time to be on the dance floor and enjoy the beats. My preference was house vocals by strong black female's but also enjoyed some tecno. Today's stuff is mostly crap unless they use sample's from our time:)
I hate to admit it...but I was on this episode which aired in 1992.. I was a senior in high school then. I'll never tell who I was cuz of the 90's hair styles and fashion but my friends and family know who I am.
@Djtonedetroit There's absolutely no shame in it. I'd be embarrassed to be part of today's music scene, quite frankly. And believe me, they will be. Everything comes back around anyway, as far as clothes & hairstyles
I also failed to mention the passing of Jesse Da Body the DJ. He passed away over 10 years ago. I just don't understand why there aren't any tributes to the dancers and bios about the dancers lives. Thank you Aseagris for posting the vids.
Fredrecia Flowers (A.K.A. Bam) Rj Watkins cousin or niece (a dancer on the show) passed away in Jan 2010. What caused her passing? I'm kinda shocked that there is not a site deidicated to those of the show that have since passed on. Many of those that have passed on, have gone unrecognized. Examples include Pam, Terrence Ulysses, Fredrecia, Disco Earl, and Speedy. Since then many others have passed on in their early youth. I am a fan of the show! Thanks for the vids!
Oh God, Memories! Loved this song and going out to dance. I used to go hang at the Spectrum night club here in Brklyn where the Movie, Saturday Night Fever was filmed. That has since been taken down a few year's ago. Wonder where that famous light up dance floor went? I know it was up for sale.
For those wondering , the first song is actually called "Whoomp There it is" by "Tag Team" - not Whoop or Whoot. "Whoot there it is" was done by "95 South" - They kinda got fucked, they came out with it first, but Tag Team was the one that found the mainstream...and well, the rest is history.
ever since the song came out people have been calling it woop there is lol. even at its prime. cowboys in texas were singing that shit back in the day. good times
aseagris, how can we get the party started? i am game, maybe we can plan something over the holidays,i know the fans of the new dance show would love to see the dancers again! what is spam?
aseagris thanks for posting this video i wish we could get together and have a dance show reunion party! I am 46 now and lost a lot of weight and i am still dancing. I also danced on the scene in 1978!
Gurl! I love me some Big Gurls!! They know all the good places to eat and all the places to get in free. And most of all Big Gurls don't give a Fu&K they gone go out and have they fun. I wish I had more Big Gurls as friends.
i know it's already a lot work you've done by uploading these vids, it allowed lot of europeans like me to discover it!!but btw can you be kind enough to directly write tracklists in video description. and if know songs for your other videos too it would be great, allowing lot of people to discover old school (but great) party sound.
Anybody know which club WGPR would broadcast live on the radio at? I know it was on Weekends. I remember WJLB broadcasted live at Legends (in Greektown) on Friday nights and CIMX was over at The State Theater (on Woodward) on Saturday nights.
This is way more updated, sure it captured the spirit and energy of disco and soul train. but i don't see how its supposed to be ghetto. Id call it blacktronica.
