This guy is so right, the knuckball is dead. I think he might of been thinking of Steve Sparks who used to be in the majors and threw the knuckler, he always got rocked. Wakefield is good sometimes though but I think he gets alot of breaks from the umps because the knuckleball is a cool pitch lol. I watched him a couple nights ago and he pitched real well but he gets some close calls for sure.
i throw knuckles to complement my 2seam n 4seam fastballs. im still trying to devolpe eaither a good change-up or a slider/cutter. i saw another vid saying that pitchers with higher velocity shouldnt throw curves.
btw videos showing and explaining the grips of pitches would be useful
You can't throw a Knuckler effectively if you're throwing fastballs. You have to change your arm action. You can't throw both effectively. Why don't you throw just a changeup or something, same arm action but just bury the ball deep in your hand. Just a suggestion.
grand scheme of things. I'm guessing some of the incoming Japanese players will be willing to invest time to pick up baffling pitches in their repetoire. From a pitcher's perspective, they are going to need to do something to compete with the hitters of today. People think the knuckleballer may be dead, but the flame-thrower is equally weak when you have lower mounds, juiced balls, homerun parks and steroidal hitters...
I know it's somewhat like trusting magic to be a knuckleball pitcher but the excuse that it's not a "sound pitch" doesn't really give it justice. How can there be HOFers who are knuckleball pitchers if it's not a good pitch? I think the point about it taking hard work to master is the real truth here. Most of these guys don't want to work on it even if they're floundering in the minors with a mediocre fastball. Furthermore, even guys that throw 95-100 aren't likely to pan out in the...
The knuckler isn't the greatest pitch to learn but a mastered one is a deadly weapon.
However, the knuckleball can be a great asset and if you look at the success of the knuckleballers who have played in the majors you'll see a history of greatness. Hoyt Wilhelm, Charlie Hough, Early Wynn, Phil and Joe Niekro, Wilbur Wood. I don't think we're done with knuckleball pitchers in the major leagues in fact a very good one may be a great thing for a team.
i know how to throw a knuckle ball im one of the best pitcher in the league (midget AAA ) and thats just too much for hitter i throw like a 75 nasty curveball a 91mph fastball and a 64knuckle ball and a slider the knuckle ball jsut make ppl nuts when u throw like 20 other pitches as a Sp
As owner/operator of KnuckleballHQ I'm quite aware of its behavior. For that reason, I don't suggest it, either. I'll work with someone who has one or has a career path that could incorporate it, but if someone's looking for a changeup, I usually suggest a circle-change. The knuckleball demands a lot of work, hobnobbing with those who deeply know it, and superb fastball and basic pitching skills and approach to the game. I see many pitchers who can't even throw a fastball for strikes.
this guy is right, so many young pitchers think they can throw a knuckleball but good hitters will pick up on it, its not possible to be a good fastball and knuckleball pitcher, and for young pitchers who are inexperianced, they wont be able to throw it consistantly and they WILL get hit hard
hey has anyone heard any news on charlie haeger's pitching lately?? leave me a comment if you know
