@CurtisThorpe wow - I'm flattered. Yet I'm no where near as good as many - or even most pro players. Now that I'm sober I hope to improve and make my mark. Thank you for the encouragement.
@tyleryesta1 never tried those - and have never heard of them. I've used NI E Piano which is far more realistic than Garageband. What I like about this Garageband sample is the feel of it. You'll see what I'm talking about when you play it. It's the way it's programed - the way the tone changes based on how you play the notes.
@mutedtrumpetguy - none! Yet the distortion you hear is the clipping from the too hot video signal on my camera. lol Funny how that worked out that way.
Most acoustic pianos do not send MIDI, therefore I would not be able to use Garageband sounds - which was the point of this video.
You could do it with a Yamaha Disklavier acoustic piano or another midi enabled acoustic piano with the mute pedal on - yet that would be a bit weird.
As for uprights - I do not like the way they sound. I much prefer grands.
@mbarry6 - no that was just me improvising - no midi recorded. Yet I could record some midi if you wanted and send it to you. Why do you want the midi?
I'm flattered by yours and others compliments - and maybe I'm crazy, but I don't feel I hold a candle to pro players out there. Funny you ask for midi cause I am thinking about asking some players that are much better than I for some of their midi so I can improve.
@1976Pianoman I just love that style of playing, and I never learned how to play like that. i ask for the midi bc I can convert it into guitar, or piano tabs :) true there are some crazy awesome pros out there, but I know you have great potential! the most important thing is to just have fun with it :) at some point down the line people get so good it just depends on different peoples taste at that point. keep up the good work, and thank you for offering to make me an midi :)
could you tell me exactly what you changed to the electric piano sound in garageband? it sounds like you've added some disto and other stuff. I would appreciate it alot if you could say everything that you have changed from the starting "electric piano" sound
I changed nothing at all. The distortion you are hearing came about because the input levels on the video camera were turned up too high. That's clipping that you're hearing.
It's just the original default Electric Piano patch.
@FallingForwardMusic - sorry I never got back to you! I see your question until now. If you haven't figured it out - let me know and I'll help you. :)
Yes, you'll need a midi keyboard. You actually have to play it - it doesn't play itself. Yet you don't need a midi keyboard to "open the program" as you say. You can install it and open it without one.
If the midi keyboard does not have a computer interface built in, you'll need to buy one of those too.
No I was confused about the program. Cause I have the program but I can't open it..So I thought it was not a real program but just plugins for the midi key program...
Maybe I've taken the wrong file...now I look for another one
Native Instruments Elektrik Piano is fantastic - FAR better than what you hear here with GarageBand.
Elektrik Piano can operate as a plug-in for a DAW ('digital audio workstation' I assume is what you mean when you say "midi key software"). But it can also operate as a stand alone program (no additional software needed).
You will need a midi keyboard and midi interface for your computer. For full expression, you should also get a sustain pedal for your midi keyboard.
You will not be able to pirate this software without an immense level of frustration. Also, an illegal torrent download of this app will get you in trouble with the law. Let me save you the hassle, and tell you it's far better to spend $100 and purchase the software legally. You can buy is cheap on ebay, or get an academic discount and save yourself some money.
cool stuff! how do you get this sound? I don't know so much midi keys(i'm not a piano player). it's a software from a pc program or it's a sound of the key??
what do you mean with it doesn't play itself? I understood you can link the key to the pc which with a program gives the sound you like. Any sound you like? are there limits on this programs??
No, otherwise it would be a deal breaker for me! The delay you're referring to is called latency. I haven't had a problem with it yet. I suppose if I had a slow computer or if I had multiple programs running I might start to notice it a bit.
Jaw just dropped. I haven't heard a groove like this in years.

Is this the ep that is in all garageband software or is it for the vintage keys expansion package? sounds great
tyleryesta1 1 year ago
No expansion pack needed for this sound. It's called 'Electric Piano' and comes standard with Garageband. :)

Thats great. Ever use Mr. ray or Scrarbee? I'm thinking of getting a Macbook and running those samples but I'm a little scared of crashing an such.

@1976Pianoman what settings are you applying to the "electric piano" instrument to get the Rhodes sound?

The sound comes from software. It doesn't play itself though. You hear exactly what you play on the keyboard.

is there any delay when you play directly a software instrument?
I only use the garage band to record my guitar.
