  • I agree 1 of the TOP 10!!!!!!!!

  • Just one great ass song man! I blast the hell out of the song lol

  • Just so fucking cool.

  • Thirty years after I first heard it and it still gives me chills.

  • Robin Trower always was and always will be a badass!

  • very cool

  • Wow, very cool. I interviewed Robin around that time for a 'underground' newspaper.

  • fuck yes one of the best and one my favz

  • @seancloonan22 Tuning sligtly below pitch doesn't make you a genius.. Stupid argeument.. I agree though. Mr. Trower is pretty damn great..

  • @seancloonan22 Tuning a little below pitch idoesn'

  • perfect music for my nap.

  • Proof is in the Puddin' boys, if somebody doesn't like Trower, they don't get it and never will, which is fine, leaves more Trower for me! I cut my musical chops with Robin Trower, Badfinger and Deep Purple, God I'm so glad I grew up in that time!

  • @syn58tim well said brother,,,

  • Robin Trower is one of the top 10 best guitarist to ever play. Ever. I really don't know why he's never gotten the full respect he deserves. He's not the fastest or flashiest guitarist, but when it comes to innovation...Robin Trower reinvented the blues in a way. I mean...this song isn't even in a normal key lol, it's tuned in between E and Eb, which if you're not a guitarist, ill just say is a really odd tuning. Long story short, Robin Trower = THEE psychedelic blues genius.

  • Yeah! Great upload!

  • 'why so unforgiving? why so cruel.."

  • i saw him first time when this was his new album opening for king crimson doing their new album red at the auditorium in chicago. i was 16. later in the 70's i got to see his show backstage at the ampitheatre. funny thing i remember seeing was a dudes afro flame up when everyone lit lighters for the encore. (he wasn't hurt, just bummed.)

  • This guy is the reason I couldn't study at Purdue. Well, that and the herb.....

  • Robin Trower makes everything sound and look so easy but it is NOT...He is a Master of The Stratocaster and...has been born with " Perfect Pitch " He developed a UNIQUE SOUND independant of Jimi Hendrix...Robins sound is much more Harmonious , Thoughtful , and has lasted 45 years He is STILL TOURING -- A FRIENDLY and DEEP PERSON who deserves respect. He has made the History Books no-question.!!!! James Dewar The Worlds GREATEST SINGER.

  • this is just ass kicking old school rock blues. thank god i got to experience the old days for sure! it would be easy to date myself, when rock-n-roll was turning into hard rock and then finally metal and damn all the different metal genre's these days, wow! hearing the transition through all the yrs.has been quit amazing in all. got to see in the late 70's, trower and kansas together at a small venue' in cleveland ohio. fuckin awesome concert! please bring me back in time! (<......

  • robin t. and e. johnson are the son and holy ghost to the lord jehovah...JMH. killer post*****

  • He admittedely learned a lot from Hendrix, played on the same bill when he was in Procul Harum, but made his own mark with his playing very underated.

  • One of the sickest guitar tones ever achieved

  • Insanely beautiful song.

  • This is so much better than the modern insane repetition of scales and hashing and thrashing of notes with no point, A good song doesn't need to be fast or prove anything. It's about atmosphere, fast or slow. This song takes you away. It, well you feel it, so do I. It doesn't have to be complicated, you don't have to play well, you just have to wander into that place, know it and keep it. Most of playing is LISTENING.

  • I want to give some thanks for this upload; it is my favorite live recorded performance of this great trio. Trower is playing this with such great feeling, not rushing through it and thoroughly himself. James Dewar voice is sweet and soulful as always and his Gibson EB-01 Bass is dead on supplying the right foreground texture, with such a subtle touch and tenderness to his bass lines. I just love Trowers old school rig; Marshal head over single one piece Fender cabinet, Strat and Uni-vibe.

  • @zenjim007 Just as an added note; did anyone notice how Dewar had the SG style horns cut off, rounded and refinished on his Gibson EB-01 Bass. During the 70s I noticed a lot of Bass players doing crazy alterations to the body of their instruments. Eddie Van Halen chopped up a few Gibson body's too. Even so I would love to own Dewar's Bass he used here! Rest in peace James.

  • RIP James Dewar.

  • He actually said turn that MF down or take it home. But then he drank a truckload of my Tanqueray, I tried to return the favor he did me. Gin and juice(donald duck) at 15, and all night with the blues. The 70s was a fine time.

  • I have played with black bands since the 70s, and when I started I remember the "sloppiness" that I heard with my virgin ears.Well it was that same sloppiness that I came to love and drives me even now. Very few White guys have that kind of soul and the bending and wailing they make the guitar do. Thank you Lord for letting me cut my teeth with my "brothers" they gave me the soul I have now. And It probably want easy for them. Rip Wimberly," LLLLLLLLlouis, TTTTTTurn it down or take it home.!

  • Sloppy solo, but great version, nonetheless.

  • An era not to be easily forgotten by those who were there; the 70's were so so Boss!

  • Robin is right up there with the guitar greats, Hendrix, Page Clapton. But I think he has a small following, of which I am amongst. He is awesome live. It's kinda like Alvin Lee. He is a fantastic guitarist that doesn't get much credit. Are we all subject to guitar magazines who's who at the zoo?

  • I was a roadie for Hendrix in 1970 and we were playing this super concert in Germany. Procal Harem were on the bill and Jimi kept on asking about the young guitarist Robin Trower (although he didn't know his surname). Jimi also really loved James Dewar...but that's another story I was outside Jimi's dressing room after the gig and Trower knocks on the door nervous as hell and mumbles something to Jimi about Hendrix being the best and then runs off.

  • @jimmyjamesdylan Wow man....so cool. Never got to see Jimi, but have seen Robin 3X. The 70's WERE wonderful!

  • @jimmyjamesdylan That's pretty neat! I guess we know why Trower sounded so much like Jimi after he passed. Like the soul of Jimi entered Trower or something like that.

  • Real musicians. Pioneers. Nothing beats a 3 piece band of real musicians. Trower is one of the last living greats!!!! Bridge of Sighs and Long Misty Days are two of the best guitarist oriented albums ever recorded!!!!!!

  • I have the album, Made loud to play loud

  • TEARS, yes blues, BEAUTIFUL

  • i'd sell blood for 2 years straight to buy a ticket to see that majestic band again.

  • i was blessed to see these guys in 1986...but unfortunately no original lead singer..STILL i will always love this original lead guitarist that's kept it together...ROBIN TROWER ROCKS FOREVER!! and he's still hot for an old old man! same as Jimmi Page...how many more out there will ever do the same??? NONE. the rest are in their graves & we keep the music going strong...post thumbs up with me folks!

  • I'm starting to get flashbacks. Goooood flashbacks.......

  • I feel lucky to have seen him twice.....

  • They dont make many players like they used to.Hes one of the best.

  • I must apologize for my previous post regarding this clip;I mistakenly stated that "Rolling Stone Ragazine" has Jack White listed at #17;however,they have a new list up since I reviewed it.The older one is the one I quoted;the new list has Mr.White at #70.I love the quote they have attributed to Jack describing his playing as proof that a blues-based band can escape what he refers to as the "note-pushing Stratocaster white-blues bullshit." I like the jock strap reference and completely agree!

  • HA! that is a laugh, i mean i really love jack white, but is he better than R.T. u gotta be kidding me, he couldn't hold his jock-strap. trower is right there with hendrix. page, clapton.

  • @flyvibe71 lol someone actually said jw is better than robin?? LMAO! i hope that person knows that anyone with any knowledge of guitar playing could easily argue why a claim like that is retarded.

  • @yugang08 u said it brother.

  • Thanks so much for uploading this clip. I have been a Trower fan since the early 70's and I still say the same thing that I said 40 plus years ago; Robin Trower is the "MOST UNDER RATED" guitar "GOD" on the planet. The only thing I have ever come up with that makes any sense to me is that he must have relieved himself in some SOB's Wheaties or something and has been paying ever sense.Rolling Stone "RAG" doesn't even list him in their top 100 yet a guy like Jack White is #17 !!!! Surely you jest!

  • @yargnodrog I think it is safe to say that Rolling Stone greatly undermines its credibility by publishing something as subjective as a "Top 100" guitarists of all time. It is deliberately provocative and impossible to justify. And fuck Jack White; he' s rather like the Michael Jackson of guitar: talented, but childlike. His chops are minimal...

  • @beeroosterm I agree; It's hard to justify coming up with & publishing something like that when your talking about a magazine that is owned and controlled by one person.I don't understand why it seems to rate so much credibility with people. It's a joke in the truest since. One thing you can say about RT is that you will never find a more humble guy about his art and capabilities.I don't beleive you will find him bad mouthing other artists, which I know White does.I'm not impressed with him at all.

  • Comment removed

  • I wonder why his guitar is so buried in reverb here. It's not the way he sounded live--I saw him many times back then (when people could still afford to go to concerts).

  • @sthugh I just noticed that as well, they ruined his tone here. I have seen a lot of him the past 10 yrs & he still sounds so good. Robin knows when to sustain a note and let the univibe wash over you. David Gilmour also thrills me with the space he creates by just letting notes ring out. Players today could learn a lot by studying these guys huh?

  • @MrUltraworld Indeed.

  • Awesome 8-)

  • no way this song could move a guy more ! fell hard for it the first time I and most of my friends heard it, but if you played its was sure a deeper cut then most all other songs.

  • just found out about mr. trowers great guitarist

  • UNIVIBE FOREVER!!!

  • AWESOME...one of my old time favorites!

  • dude that was magic & brought back memories of friends & drugs & love & most of all music.......a time that only comes once in your life, but stays with you forever.........that was the line-up i saw @ shea NY in the 70's .......Dewar was key to that sound, miss his voice....the quiet perfect psychedelic timing of it all.........today is more chaotic, more aggressive, more unsure where we are headed.....or maybe we just need more buffalo wings?

  • Look at the fingers on Robin.....Wowww !!!

  • Classic rock out music! Saw him 3 times over the years. Great guitarist!

  • Such a great live version. Such a great song.

  • Awesome axe man, love this live performance video, thanks for sharing this with us! I've shared it out to a ton of places, faved it and then some :)

  • yeah...!! trower had the blues AND the metal; he had it all. just as important as clapton and hendrix, probably...

  • @1skullduggery ---- love Robin... but probably not.

  • Hauntingly beautiful! One of Robin's greatest tunes!

  • Nothing ive heard before compares to this!

  • Trower rules...Thanks for the earhasm

  • Who is the dude on drums? I saw Robin in 74 and Reg Isadore was on the throne during that tour

  • @tuneman43130 that's reg isadore, bill lordan replaced him on the For earth Below album which was Trower's third

  • Uploader please copy yt:crop=16:9 and paste it into the tags of this video. It will embiggen the video and remove the black space. Oh and thanks for uploading this awesome video!

  • YES ROBIN TROWER SHOW EM HOW IT'S DONE.... WHAT A GUITARIST...

  • this gives me chicken skin. goosebumps.

  • James Dewar? He was a great vocalist.

  • Anybody wanna guess what robin has on his pedal board for this show? Me thinks Univibe, Fuzz Face, and some reverb.

  • Dark, moody tune with powerful guitar and lyrics, backed with such a soulful voice -- how can the 5 of you not love this?

  • Love this tune, and after enjoying the new version, had to admitt the original singer has to now be one of my male top 10.. how he can make it look so easy.. and sound as he does? anthow robin trower be the man!

  • one of the best tracks laid down in the early seventies, would definitely be in my top 5, have loved Trower ever since i first heard this album in 1973 down at Southern Illinois University, have seen him 4 times live and each show was fantastic

  • Fantastic voice

  • This just oozes BADDAASSSSSSS.

  • tone touch and taste.

  • There are vintage Fender Stratocasters... and then there's everything else.

I've owned a couple of dozen different guitars during my life and all of them are great. But my beaten up old 70's Strat is the one I've always loved the most. You just can;t get that tone out of any other instrument.

  • 1977 LesPaul owner here. I love my Orville, but that Strat that Robin T plays and makes it sing, OH MY!!!!!!

  • nobody used the univibe better than Trower. a classic!

  • oh no not Jimi Hendrix, it´s Robin Trower. Good Sound.

  • Thanks for posting!

  • I feel so fortunate to have seen RT in 1975 and 1976 open for Wishbone Ash and then again for Deep Purple with Tommy Bolin - the song still offers the chills as it did when it did its first 33 1/3 robins per minute on the turn table platter

  • I've got to second the Robin and the guitar-face comment!

  • Robins got the blues 'cause he's one ugly sum bitch!

  • u can tell how that Fender cab is putting out the wrong EQ on this performance.

great playing of course - miss the old years

  • drummer is cool !!!

  • That guitar be howlin \m/

  • One of those songs that cannot be played too loud!

  • lookingood364 High Praise. Much more appealing to a guitarist than the old argument of who's better than who. (Makes me want to practice more as well.)

  • Where would we be today without british guitarists?

  • @ekaj1995 nowhere, they are great

  • Yow! Timesless, masterpiece! Feel the elements!

  • That voice of Dewar will never be replaced, but thank God Robin is still playing.

  • @hawg427 A truer statement was never made....His voice was One of a Kind!....Rest in Peace Jimmy

  • This song will never go out of date . Just like the Doors plug it in and the YOUNG KIDS GO WOW who is that. Then you tell them and their in awe. I have heard and played this song a 1000 times or more . But there will never be a Jimmy Dewar ever again. We still have his voice on vinyle!!!

  • It is SO hypnotic! Everytime i listen to this song i wake up with someone elses pants on!

  • RIP James Dewar and Reggie Isidore

Jimmy was always fond of telling the story in that amazingly downbeat and funny way of his of the Glasgow bridge of sighs that crossed the Molendinar Burn from Glasgow Cathedral to the Gothic Necropolis Cemetery......it was called bridge of sighs due to the funeral processions............james is totally irreplaceable....hard as nails, great quiet sense of humour and totally authentic generous...and probably just about the best white blues singer of all

  • @jumasultanedwards Yeah one of the all time great rythm sections, vastly underrated as was JD's awesome voice.

  • @jumasultanedwards Did Robin really play this song with 5 strings, looks like the E string is broken at the beginning?

  • @jumasultanedwards totally irreplaceable. !!!! Killer singer !!!!!

  • The impact of JMH Machine Gun on RT is profound, especially the Band Of Gypsys LP version. You can really hear it the way RT sustains the note and his use of feedback. He really stretches out on this item and his improvising is soulful and creative. He seems to have perfect tone. No gimmicks. None needed.

  • @drjimiboy69 thas all true, however, no james dewar...no rtb phenomenom. hendrix would and could have done it with anyone. fact

  • Trower is sublime but the best guitar face is the guitarist (I think it's T.J. Tindle) on Bonnie Raitt's 1976 OGWT performance of "Too Long At The Fair"...'kin good shit!

  • it sounds a little doom...

  • Wow - 1st time I've seen this footage - Jimmy Dewar playing what looks like a Gibson bass? Never seen that and of course so good to see one of the greatest drummers IMHO in Reg Isadore! Cool, whoever posted this thanks so much! Oh GREATGUITARHEROES thank you for posting !

  • trout face impersonation, lol

  • I just read that Robin Trower makes random women want to take their clothes off and get down. Can there be any better motivation to want to play amazing guitar? I submit there can not!

  • Robin's git tone is just so sweet. Jimmy Dewar's voice was such the perfect compliment to his music. Great vid!!!

  • Awesome!!!

  • Robin, you're good, but... it's not all about the guitar -- Jimmy D's voice is just as powerful, if not moreso. JAMES DEWAR, we miss you, man!

  • AWESOME

  • Even after nearly 40 years this song still sounds awesome to this day.

  • Perfect song to take a huge bong hit and float away for a few hours.

  • Ive been playing along with this song for about 2 hours now.

  • this was so good on 3000 mic's of oarnge barrel

  • Merci!

  • slash is an overated hack.lot of effects pedels an penetonic scales.he is not worthy to kiss robin trower's ass!

  • @KearaJay -Slash doesn’t count at all. It’s not the use of effects, it’s how you use them, Trower used effects and Pentatonic forms. He’s just more talented than slush.

  • @jjooboo that's like saying grapes are better than apples

  • @jjooboo dude. slash isnt real.

  • One of the hottest guitar players at that time other than Jeff Beck,John Mclaughlin , Al Dimeola but Robin Trower tore it up with his chops were like Hendrix... , reverb heavy sustained.. and very tight music at tthat time i was 18 yrs old when I heard this and still Love it. And takin' chance to see him in Kalamazoo,MI @wings auditorium.. peace & praise

    kevinmt

    *_*

  • i saw trower from 73 on, seen slash with G&R NO DOUBT TROWER IS IN ANOTHER LEAGUE! BUT EVERY BIRY IN THE TREE HAS A SONG, LISTEN TO WHO YOU LIKE! TROWER IS JUST AWESOME.

  • MAGICAL!

  • JUST ANOTHER REASON I LOVE YOUTUBE!!!!!!

Saw these guys in Hampton, Virginia, a lifetime ago. Need a time machine.....

  • Sometimes in music everything clicks and falls into place and it just could not get any better, this is one of those times....magical.

  • This is type of music, is the most badass thing ive ever heard.

  • Heavy Metal and Greek Tragedy, western tragic romance in general have confluences. They are appropriate bedmates. Eastern music doesn't contain the angst, usually. Not surprising Trower and Cream and Morrison picked up the ancient thread.

  • @robertschelly Sounds quite lovely to me...

  • Trower was always one of my favorites.

  • Hadn't heard this in ages, it remains timeless and reminds of some of my younger days!!!

  • Listen to Trowers hot licks instructional video .He plays an amazing guitar solo at the end that will blow you away. Its one of the best guitar solos I ever heard .The rest of the vid is also fantastic .

  • How did Hendrix get so popular when Trower is a little bit more of a tonal genius? I wonder how he would sound playing a Les Paul? The Strat is perfect for his choice of pickups, string ga.'s and high action setup....... Thanks for the lessons Super Baddazz Robin Trower!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @SouthernPrinceKenny -It might interest you to know that Trower was backstage when Jimi was playing Germany. Trower gave up the guitar after seeing Jimi play. Trower eventually went to Peter Fripp who actually changed the way Trower played, after which he formed the Robin Trower Band, by this time Jimi had passed away.

  • @jjooboo Did not know that. Very intresting!! My opinion is that Trower was his own man and was unfairly compared to Hendrix. Yes, used the same forms but Trowers music is powerful in its own light!!

  • Comment removed

  • Trower gets some serious guitar face going on. I love it.

  • Great performance all the way around. Sadly we also will miss James Dewar, the man with the golden voice. RIP

  • Now, that is Reg Isadore on drums (R.I.P)

  • Fantastic!

  • Best way to describe UniVibe is if u wrap a chorus, a tremolo and a phaser all into one

  • After all these years here I thought it was Robin singing these songs. Learn something new every day. I'll be damned.

  • Well no-one beats Robin for guitar-face!

  • @TheSmedleys: Gary Moore does... RIP Gary

  • @TheSmedleys How about Alvin Lee???

  • @TheSmedleys its like he's getting a bj from 12 supermodels as he is playing

  • Incredible!!! I got a really cool boot of Trower at Fillmore 1975! But this is perfect! Thanks for sharing! Damn I have got to figure out how to upload my stuff so other true rock fans can enjoy! RMcDinGa

  • Hearing Robin Trower play this song MAKES ME WANT TO TAKE MY CLOTHES OFF AND GET DOWN. Not many guitarists do that for girls.

  • @lookingood364 ....Robin is heading over to my pad to jam a bit next week. Bring a couple friends and dress lightly.

  • @AvirtualSwitzerland Seriously, why guys didn't put this on the turntable in high school blows my mind. ;) This and a joint? Get the f*ck out.

  • @lookingood364 this and many joints back then

  • @lookingood364 Huh? What are you talking about. Girls have been taking off their clothes for all kinds of guitarists for decades. :) (By the tens of thousands!)

  • @JRCrowley

I guess I'm more particular than most.

  • @lookingood364 wow......that is awesome......I dated a girl that loved Robin Trower....often times she undressed listening to Trower......that is sexy

  • great band..saw them live twice in the 70s.....James Dewar..what a voice

  • This is so good I feel honored just to hear it.

  • James Dewar is a great soul singer. He left us too soon.

  • @999marydoll industry wants us to be dumb. no spirituality. no artistic knowledge . bc it gives us power over the upper echelon of power...

  • Slash couldn't "shine" Robin Trower's shoes, so to speak, when it comes to guitar playing much less have anywhere near as great a tone or vibrato. The last truly great guitar hero to come from that era was Stevie Ray Vaughn who rose to fame in the early-1980s 'til his tragic demise.

  • Awesome, just awesome!!!

  • I saw him in the late 80's at a very small club in Orlando. It wasn't nearly as good without James Dewar's vocals.

  • @tango47 Tango I hope you realize that most Trower fans would consider Dewar one of the most underrated voices in all of classic rock. There is a great fan who has some music that Dewar did as a solo album. His voice might be even better on the songs I have heard from it compared to Trower's band! I am sorry I cant think of his name at the moment but try searching for james dewar.

  • Just saw him tonight.. Got a couple videos on my page. He still has it! Sounded great
