  • when riding tubular tyres(inner tube sewn inside the tyre)the glue or adhesive holding the tyre on to the rim becomes very warm and lessen the grip of the tubular from the constant braking and can roll off the rim on a bend!,so confidence is of great importance.

  • Who says cycling isn't a dangerous sport that could kill you?

And, yes it's just like downhill skiing in terms of danger and speed. If you want an example, go watch video of crashes at Kitzbuhel, Austria, especially Todd Brooker's in 1983. It's legendary amongst skiing accidents.

  • @zxcv1234vcxz - Brooker's crash is at 0:35 seconds into this video:

    watch?v=fbZa-jd29mk

  • Are those random parches of sand im seeing?

  • 0.42 cop a feel at 100kph?

  • What if someone put a ramp across the road?

  • I've done some crazy stuff on motorcycles, even infamously made the news once, but crap like this seems scary as hell. Tiny contact patch, next to no safety gear, and hardly a pristine track situation. They must make special biking pants for those kind of balls.

  • he tapped that ass.

  • 0:35 BMC Pro Machine.

  • FAIL!!!!! Should of Ass Punched him!!!!!!

  • how do they know how fast to approach turns? what if curve is sharper than it first appears? Do they get to see a route map the day of?

  • @HariVIyer

    That is actually very common.

Many riders will under/over estimate a corner. They will often get into accidents, sometimes shooting over a rail.

They do get information of the map days before the race, but it still isn't enough. It is too unpredictable. With hours of training, these descents would be like taking a stroll in the park.

  • I was scared when I had to descend a 16% hill =S

  • it looks more difficult than it is! Go ride yourself!

  • Please don't try this if you haven't the right skills and the material

  • 0:40 No gloves on a Prostate exam? typical

  • Is the camera on the motorcyclists helmet? otherwise, It'd feel pretty precarious as a passenger trying to film this

  • @tweakiepop

The passenger if filming it, and the driver is just driving. And it is not on a helmet. The passenger is filming it with the typical professional cameras.

  • @tweakiepop if the DRIVER was filming, you would have the crappiest video in the world... * shake... shake... looks at the spedomiter, then the roead... then the biker... then the road... then the spedomiter...* SHIT!!! *crashes*.

  • They make it look easy. But a few years ago a young Spanish rider in the Tour was killed descending at speeds like this..... NOT for the faint of heart.

  • the last thing i want when im in full concentration descending at 60mph is someone palming my ass

  • @EnnesX

He was actually helping him. That push that he gave him boosted his speed by at least 5mph which is a lot more when your riding downhill. I know it looks gay, but it's helpful.

  • @Cycloboss it was a joke, man.

  • @Cycloboss helpfull to his opponent

  • 0:40...sexual assault?

  • FArt fart

  • SPEEDWOBBLE!!!

  • 0:40 is that considered normal in bicycle sport?

  • Was the road covered in sand? If so AAAARRRGGGGG

  • 108 kmh for me, on the descent coming in to Hope, B.C down Highway 3.. praying no semis decided to try and pass... or cars.. it had my full attention...wouldn't dare do that now..

  • I don't think I would have c0jones to ride a bike so fast.

  • I live in so cal and I just clocked 61.2 mph today on my odo for my road bike. Shit my pants.

  • Fastest for me is 101 kph - From the Tourmalet down to La Mongie... then forgot all the dust on the Road at La Mongie from Building work and nearly missed the left hand corner halfway through the resort and almost ended up in the side of a hotel..... doh

  • the fastest I've ever descended was 54mph, and I was "white knuckling" the hell out of that shit. I can't imagine casually taking one hand off the bars to give another rider a friendly pat.

  • @breadbutt "friendly pat"?It was straight up homo ass touching!

  • @urungutang huh? why get all weird about it?

  • The most I;ve ever done is 50mph (80ish km/h). Now I have to try this! :D

  • @Choppie5 Really? Try harder. The highest speed i was clocked at in a race was 70mph. I was riding with another guy, kinda like this clip. It was in California if you were wondering.

  • @Choppie5 I been up to about that on a ten speed, my arse was glued to a bike seat while I was 13 to 22 years old.. take 35 kilometer trips to the city from the backwaters town I lived in.

  • @T1meW4st3d

    Bye

  • hahaha so gay he touched his ass

  • 60mph...that's crazy. Brilliant!

  • @T1meW4st3d not all of cyclists are like that. i mean, not all drivers are drunk but a lot are.

  • sprinkle some pot holes in the road to spice it up a little.

  • what the love tap lol

  • insane

  • A. Schleck, 101 Kmh in Alzingen.

  • You can brake, and rim brakes react better than discs to overheating, but you'd still need some distance before you can stop. And if you crash, helmet's not going to do much, I suspect it's there as much for aerodinamics as for a minimal protection. Finally, this is a controlled environment, top notch bike, escort etc.

But what I really admire is the quality of those mountain roads, the smallest irregularity could crash them, they must be 100% silky smooth, amazing.

  • This might sound like an ignorant question, but with those type of top-tier bikes, is it still possible to brake at 60 mph/100 km?

  • Comment removed

  • Im amazed with the size of these guys balls

  • @gnjojn wtf gtfo immature bitch

  • The best I have managed to do so far is 86.4km/h descending Mt. Macedon Road last year and I weigh 77kgs. Didn't bother to pedal and held a comfortable grip and stayed in the tuck position. So exhilarating!

  • Couldn't be doing 60mph on a bike with somebody pushing my butt

  • If the bike is strong enough I don't see a problem in fact we used to do similar as kids (find the steepest hill possible and zoom down it) I did however read about a sad case of a man in Manchester being killed when the front forks on his bike collapsed on his journey to work. The forks had rusted internally at the crown and the fall broke his neck. Normally bike forks are invincible so this breakage was most peculiar. The make and age of the bike were unfortunately not mentioned. Take care!

  • @techdavey1000 and thats y u dont get steel

  • 見てるだけでおとろしいわwww

    Why don't they fear?

  • Comment removed

  • Nutters!

  • @TheBlitz1 what do you mean hybrid tires? there are a bunch of different sizes. many hybrids can have thin road tires like these because not all hybrids are the same. anyways general comfort hybrid bikes with tires wider than 30 mm are going to way A LOT more than these road tires. you have to be more specific so you don't get spammed.

  • @brandeezy108 Hybrid as in a hybrid between road and mtb tires obviously.

    By "way" you mean weigh*.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheBlitz1 Weigh?

  • @goon4lunch1 Weigh*

  • That's the reward for all that pedalling!

  • That is one huge grinding wheel if they fell off. I got tense just watching.

  • 0:42 hellooooooooooooooooooooo

  • absolutely rip pin down the mountain

  • those guys are beast

  • The only reason for why the rider behind the other at 41 seconds touch his backside was because he was going to be right along side him. This is very dangerous at these high speeds. In order to avoid being in a bad position he pushed the other rider just a little bit so he could drop in behind him again.

  • @416610971 pretty much and as he was drafting him its easier for him to pick up more speed. so you just push him back out front and fall back behind him.

  • I would love to do this on my bike, thrill of life. Look like fun!

  • sweet mother of jesus!! see the road surface!! not great at all in places nearly as bad as some of the roads in Co Donegal in Ireland!!

  • 0:41 wtf was that? Lol anyways I guess that road doesnt have path wh. Like where I ride @ NY

  • i hope those roads are well maintained and free of any pot holes. haha.

  • hehe 0:41 - Surprise butt sex!

  • They know there bike....amazing control and poise

  • I've hit 67.7 mph on my trek

  • It's not the fart that kills, it's the smell!

  • I've already made 85, but I needed a road with 20%. I can't imaging, who they can drive so fast for such a long period of time. And please accept, that the metric system makes much more sense then miles, inch, yard and how else they are called!

  • @BLRadler it doesn't make sense to europeans, but we here in america are used to our system. we do this for the sake of being different, and i think there's also another reason. anyways there's nothing wrong with our system. nothing wrong with metric either.

  • I have gone a maximum of 47mph down a mountain road (Paved road, my dad dropped me off at the top of it) with lots of twists and turns (About 2 miles?), but obviously the top speed on the straightaways. It is a very weird feeling when you are pedaling as fast as you can while at the end of your gears (24 speed mountain bike). These guys have guts to go that fast, with JUST a helmet on. Those extra 10mph faster sure makes a difference too! Aside from the danger, it looks like a blast!

  • Yeah, make sure you keep that inside pedal up! Also the thing that I really struggle to imagine is just how high they must all be on endorphins by the time they summit - the peak of physical exertion, then you hit a downhill like that. Amazing.

  • Ya.. amazing.

  • I went up until 70 km/h descending the Mont Ventoux.. then sliding, breaking heavily for a Volvo.. 100 is amazing!

  • @rapperzondernaam My friend and I hit 100kph+ coming down Ventoux. Leap-frogged each other, then hit the straight treed section and zoom!! Had to use the oncoming lane a couple of times on corners -- thankfully, vehicle traffic was really light that day. His bike computer said Max. = 99.9kph, which was it's highest readout, when we looked at it at the bottom (not looking while riding! lol!). So it was at least 100kph; I don't think it was much more. Certainly not 110kph. We are experienced.

  • @innismor11 It was my first ever bike ride, and descent also.. wow 100+ Did you do the Bedoin side? I mean you have to right lol.

  • @rapperzondernaam It was. 1hr35 up; 19 min. coming down. It was also "BK" (before kids).

  • To the next Tour, please show us more speedmeters in the graphic, please please......

  • How???

  • holy @#!$

  • what if there is a tight turn? do they drift?

  • @Jakiirod no, if the speed is to hight for turning, they'll break before entering the turn

  • those guys have balls!! gotta give them that!!

  • thats awesome, I've only got up to 80km/hr ish when cycling. even that was enough to put a very big smile on my face. really would not want to crash wearing only lycra

  • ROCK!!

  • And then when a biker fals and get killed they say : We are not used to this kind of accidents you know.. We are not racingdrivers.. Well this is MUCH MUCH more dangerous than racing I think. At least if you look at Formula 1.. Retards.. I cant feel sorry for them when it goes wrong..

  • @dipstick3031 you're so stupid...you're happy when a rider dies?

  • @TheFrasd No. Did I say that?? I mean I don't start crying for them when it goes wrong.. Ok.. When someone dies its bad. I have to admit that.. But don't you think they could do a bit more about their own safety? Isn't it jus suicide to go down a mountain with 100kph on such thin tyres and no safety clothes besides a tiny pot helmet...

  • @dipstick3031 "Retards.. I cant feel sorry for them when it goes wrong.."...what does it mean?

What you call a "tiny pot helmet" saved my life several times. Try to ride a bike in august with 35°C wearing a full face helmet or a back protection....If you won't die for a fall you'll certaintly do for a collapse! As Felice Gimondi said some time ago (when the poor Wouter Weylandt died at Giro...): "bikes have the most efficient safety precautions: THE BRAKES".

  • @dipstick3031 well every sport has their risks. this is why you have to focus on the road ahead of you. if you see a crack or a pot hole, avoid it.what more can you do about saftey? if you do anymore, the bikes will slow down dramatically. the thing is they are willing to risk their lives to win. because the prize at the end is worth it. anything can go wrong in any sport.

  • @brandeezy108 Well the bikes have become drasticly faster over the years so maybe they should do some rule changes that will make them a bit slower and safer like heavyer brakes and larger tires.. The rules are the same for all so equal disadvantage. That's what they did in car racing. The speed record in F1 stands from 1995 for example. If they would have let them go they would now do 500kph on the straight. But they got tired of all the dead so they did something about it.

  • @dipstick3031 not that many people die from bikes crashes as opposed to car crashes. thinner bike tires have more of a contact patch anyway on the ground giving more traction. wider tires deform less on pavement and that will give less rolling resistance but skinny tires will grip just as good. as for heavier brakes. it's not about the weight of the brakes that matter, it's about the control and the stopping power a brake can deliver. heavier brakes would just add to downward momentum.

  • Fuck that!!

  • thats really fun!!

  • Damn that's crazy fast.

I'd start shitting my pants at 40-50mph.

At 60mph, if you hit a large rock or anything in the road, your dead.

  • Jesus people... he gives the small push because it's the safest thing to do. Breaking at that speed isn't that safe and trying to pass the person can cause a lovely accident. It's the exact same with speed boarding and most gravity sports

  • i have gone on some steep hills, and i only managed like 51 mph... i just couldnt go any faster, (because i am a kid and weigh 104 pounds lol). and it was FUN! that decent looks so bomber...

  • Hahaha awesome! I did this road on a skateboard, it's a very beautiful place :)

  • my palms are sweating :O

  • Wow that is some crazy good descending

  • I wouldn't go 60 down most of those roads in a friggin sports car!

  • @TimpBizkit that bicycle helmet won't help much if they crash they need friggin motorcycle and leather jacket

  • @leonoff89 They pretty much never crash. These guys ride bikes 5-7 hours a day. Car racers have nothing on these guys when it comes to handling their machine. Bike crashes, even at high speed are mostly all road rash and maybe broken clavicles.

  • @leonoff89 a bike helmet does more than we think. when you fall, you'll get a ton of road rash and broken bones. but most importantly, you're hear is in tact. the risks are unavoidable when going down a hill that fast. going 50 on a motorcycle is already deadly. now doing 62 mph on a road bike downhill is pretty much all on you if you want to live. besides, motorcycle jackets and helmets will slow the fuck out of your bike. they should be fine, they're professional. if they fuck up it's on them.

  • @TimpBizkit i would give money for it.

in a closed track wiwth a sport car :)

  • IF YOU JUMP FROM THE SKY YOU'LL GO FASTER AAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH

  • 62mph with mountain drops on a narrow road. If something goes wrong its bone braking pain and high blood loss or death, nothing in between.

  • you couldn't pay me to do that

  • dude id shit my pants

  • 0:41 ahahahahaahahaha GAY!

  • :52 seconds. His shorts turned from blue to brown all of a sudden.

  • respect

  • lmao at 0:41 touch ur ass will help u win

  • this reminds me of my daily commute through wandsworth...

  • 0:43 WTF???

  • seriously, if you're going 60mph on a bike, do you really want someone behind you giving you a small push?

  • They can go 120 kmph. But the breakfast will involve lots of beans.

  • 0:41 NO HOMO

  • Holy mother...

  • Pfft Chuck Norris can do this on a unicycle..

  • cancellara: the fast that I had was 80km/h on a flat road and 120 km/h in a descent

  • This is suicide

  • Chuck Norris could do that with a monocycle.

  • 0:41 what the....

  • @Trinn007

He pushes him forward for a couple of reasons:

    1) At that speed it's dangerous to overtake, a lot can go wrong very quickly.

    2) If he stays behind then he's got the aerodynamic advantage, when the road gets flat then he can sit on his tail while the guy in front puts effort in by pedalling he can just cruise behind him.

Although it looks a bit odd that he touches his butt, it's probably the safest place on the whole bike/body he can spread his kinetic energy to.

  • @Jake01273 dont take me wrong mate, i was just making fun of it hehe :)

  • @Trinn007 I was just making sure people understood :D

  • @Trinn007 just wanted a dumper squeeze.... no big deal.

  • @Trinn007 Letting him know that he is that close behind him. If you tap your brakes going that fast downhill you can easily wreck. Much safer to nudge the guy in front.

  • @Seraphim4590 yeah, i was just making fun!

  • @Trinn007 Fuck!

  • @Trinn007 That was because the rider 96 (the blue one) didn't want to take the lead because of the wind, and he prefered to remain in the furrow...

  • @Trinn007 wanna be second - 100km/h without jacket.

  • @Trinn007 its to keep the momentum of the speed (sorry not english).

  • when i watch this video , i remembered my partner , we where descending from the hill when suddenly the locks on his fork loose , but thank god we're just only 32 km/h just preparing for the descend , so he just have some little bruises but broken front wheel and frame , and little wounds to me . ( we both crash )

  • Crazy....and all they have on is lycra and a little lid on the head....faaaark...

  • hushovd have hit 115km\h and he doesn`t give all

  • one little rock and your fucked

  • @joshie9119 i know right

  • i know they have hit 128 kph, dont remember if it was the Giro or the Tour

  • Nice, but in our highway in my country, they will be in shieeeeeeeeeeet :D

  • I must improve :-)

  • (0:40) sex scene !!!

  • how do they pedal? when im going 'normal' fast speeds i cant move my legs fast enough to catch the gears!

  • @gantonski maybe the front gears of those bikes are bigger, so you can go faster, but it's harder

  • @gantonski As Jeca says, the professional bikes have much much higher gearing.

  • @gantonski we have a different kind of rear derailleur , adjusting barrel , crankset and gearings , that's why even on high speeds , as you look at our legs , it looks normal but high speed .. oh and by the way buy a special shoe and pedal that can be lock together ( by magnet/ lock ) to prevent miss steps on the pedals ...

  • 3 people are just decided their life goal is NOT the tour de frane

  • yeah nothing new here but , one wrong move :D

  • So the whole idea here is to NOT fall, right... lol

  • Riding at about 60mph happens in almost every cycling race that involves going down a mountain. Nothing new here...

  • @gorodph

And if you didn't know, flat stage riders and sprinters who specializes in flat flat stages will and NEVER win the entire tour. They may win a stage here and there, but they will never win the race victoriously.

Those who win Tours like the Tour de France, the Vuelta Espana, and the Giro d' talia, are those who can climb mountains.

These mountains are not only 2 minutes long, they can go as long as 2 hours to ride uphill. Riders will definitely choose a road bike over a recum or velo.

  • @gorodph

The only advantage advantage recums and velos offer are completely FLAT with a gradient of 0 degrees.

Even in a recumbent or velos, you would have trouble descending a mountain at high speeds. Recums and velos just have poor handling capabilities. Out of all the years of riding the mountains in California, I have yet to see those bikes climb or descend these mountains and I would highly believe this applies to all of the mountains out there.
