What would be smart would be to have the tanker empty of oil but full of explosives if they want a one time attack or arm the tanker and when the ships approach pop up and open fire with its heaviest weapons and missiles.

If its within say a mile or so they could do some damage but not unfixable damage if the tanker was loaded down with explosives how many tons of oil can a tanker hold? Anyway depending on the explosive used that could cause trouble.

@TheDaranas sorry I meant if it was loaded with the equal amount of the amount of oil in the ship.1.48 million barrels worth of oil fits ina tanker. Now just take that and load the ship with say..c-4. The missiles would be a definite problem if the ship passes within 1 mile or less of the warships.

Abrams' design is outdated by 21st century standard, any tank expert will tell you that. Today's US military is just too broke to R&D a new MBT.

@devilhunterred The US has laws in place that sate all of their military equipment must be sourced (unless it isn't possible, like certain raw material for example) from US soil, and they must also be assembled on US soil. They also require full production rights on anything they license from other nations, hence still using the Abrams tank rather than the superior in pretty much every way (on paper at least) Leopard 2A6. The Germans didn't give them full production rights for all components.

Computers, iPods, MacBooks and other American hightech products are also made in this way. US military components are produced in China for financial necessities, it isn't cheap to maintain the world's largest military, and with the way US economy is going to hell and decades of government overspending, it was the only way for US military to function.

The american leadership may have a hidden agenda, but when it comes to the military they have no rivals, although this business with the hacked drone points in the direction of your logic. But that vulnerability was null and void the day that incident occurred.
Take a look at the Israel/Lebanon war a few years back. If I'm not mistaken, they were able to disable over 200 Israeli tanks. If its within say a mile or so they could do some damage but not unfixable damage if the tanker was loaded down with explosives how many tons of oil can a tanker hold? Anyway depending on the explosive used that could cause trouble.

Zulfiqar is only about 40 tons. Abrams' jet fuel consumption is absurd, it burns gallons of fuel just by starting the engine. Abrams' design is outdated by 21st century standard, any tank expert will tell you that. Today's US military is just too broke to R&D a new MBT.

@devilhunterred The US has laws in place that sate all of their military equipment must be sourced (unless it isn't possible, like certain raw material for example) from US soil, and they must also be assembled on US soil. They also require full production rights on anything they license from other nations, hence still using the Abrams tank rather than the superior in pretty much every way (on paper at least) Leopard 2A6. The Germans didn't give them full production rights for all components.

Computers, iPods, MacBooks and other American hightech products are also made in this way. US military components are produced in China for financial necessities, it isn't cheap to maintain the world's largest military, and with the way US economy is going to hell and decades of government overspending, it was the only way for US military to function.

@devilhunterred No really. They speak the truth. It is a common misconception that the U.S. lack's the ability to create it's own electronics. I would say try harder then them, but you will not. The american leadership may have a hidden agenda, but when it comes to the military they have no rivals, although this business with the hacked drone points in the direction of your logic. But that vulnerability was null and void the day that incident occurred.

Take a look at the Israel/Lebanon war a few years back. If I'm not mistaken, they were able to disable over 200 Israeli tanks. Im not arguing the fact that the US can easily destroy Iran a hundred time over, but that their is a serious possibility for it to go broke or bankrupt. Don't be so over confident. Some components of the US military is similar to that of a Mc Donald or Microsoft, that it is susceptible to fail and defeat.

Russians have great modernization program for T-72, but Iran cannot buy because Iran is banned from weapons market and they try figure out something on their own... Anyway without airforce and air defence all tanks are simple targets for enemy.
