  • that is just not right how crul*

  • where can we watch the full episodes??

  • @chobiv7 On Amazon. Sign up for Amazon Prime membership (It's free for a month. Cancel before the month is up and there is no charge.) You can watch all the Dogtown episodes there.

  • Dr. Dix, while I have not seen the outcome of this video "Doggie Dentistry". May you be blessed a thousand times for what you do for the animals you serve. I hope the outcome was positive. I recently found a Chihuahua dn he had very bad issues with his teeth. The DVM helped me treat the dog's problems and he's living well with us. He was found on the road side and appears to be 9-12yrs of age and was in bad condition. It is goo to know there are DVM's willing to help animals and people. TY

  • Fucking people!! Why get a dog if this is what you do to it? Poor sweetheart...

  • @myhgojr Actually, she was never really owned nor had a home. She was bouncing around from shelter to rescue group to shelter, etc. Just a bad luck pup!

  • ick, but what a poor sweetie.

  • qt little dog but why?CURSE?:((

  • all her life?? fucking owners!

  • @diornotwar123 She actually never had a family of her own. She had been bouncing around shelters and rescue groups who didn't have the resources to help her. She had some bad luck there, but don't curse her owners -- they never really existed for her.

  • This video is very interesting and compelling!

  • yeah, freaking NEGLECT!! .. not only from [ex]owners, and the VETS that knew her from PUPPYhood!! yeesh.

  • @eternalxgrace That's just the problem. She bounced around from shelter to rescue group to shelter... None of them had resources to treat her.

  • pooor doggy:(

  • God that voice in the background is so annoying

  • @Bossiter Do you mean the narrator? I agree. I hate... the spacing... of the.... words to.... make it all.... more.... dramatic.

  • That poor baby! Thank God she's getting the care she's deserved for so long. I hope she's okay now. I wish they would have shown the outcome.

  • The outcome was they ended up having to remove about 2/3rds to 3/4 of her lower jaw from front to back. Dr. Mike even commented that he wasn't sure what he was doing was what was best for her. She recovered and was eating. What a tough decision. This was the only episode I've seen where I second guessed whether or not saving the dog was for the best. I hope she adapts and is finally able to live a happy life.

  • @jblough44 I'm with you. It was actually good to see Dr. Mike thinking it over more than once - it shows he isn't just a knee-jerk kind of vet! It was good to see her playing and eating at the end. I also hope she thrives.

  • Since I have yet to see the rest of this video, I am going to assume the dog is o.k. why would they go to all the trouble of showing this poor creature?? The owners of this dog need to go for at least one day experiencing the kind of pain that dog was having. We do not live in a society that allows this anymore.

  • why are everyone talking about natural selection and evolution? the poor dog has a bad infection in her jaw bone, which has nothing to do whatsoever with evolution and natural selection, only poor living conditions and neglect.

  • urrmmm, and then what happened??

  • Honestly I found that really quite upsetting

  • You all are awesome.

  • How can anyone have that go untreated!

Poor baby! That is so sad.

    Where is part II?

  • @KARIN094 She was bounced around from shelter to rescue group to shelter, etc. But I agree, she wouldn't have been in such bad shape if it was caught even a year earlier.

NatGeo posts these bits on Youtube as enticement to buy. To see whole episodes of Dogtown, you can go to Amazon and sign up for a free Amazon Prime membership. Just keep in mind that it's only free for a month (you can cancel anytime before the month is up with no charge). You can watch all the episodes there.

  • its Dr. Mike Dicks maybe he has two last names or maybe he prefers Dr Mike.

  • Really?? You think he prefers Dr Mike?

I mean over a super cool name like DICKS?? I suppose it could only get better if he was Dr Biggess Von Dicks.

  • i know i would totally chose dicks over mike but i suppose dicks would loose its shine after awhile

  • Dicks would probably continue to shine with a little helmet polish.

  • are doctors allowed to operate under the influence of helmet polish?

  • wow, you are really immature

  • get over it u fucking retard ur first name and last shud be imbecile cocsuka

  • I heard most species of dog would die out or interbreed like crazy without people around to care for them s oi figure that natural selection hardly exists in the here and now.

  • thats true. all the "cute" small dogs would have a less chance of survival without human protection.

The numerous dogs that are now available are made possible through selective breeding, but it doesn't mean people actually made it better for survival imo.

  • Interestingly, mixed breeds are in the most part better equiped to survive than pure breeds, selective breeding is an art because it goes against nature quest for variety......

  • That's fuckin gross.

They should have just let it be uthenized, put it out of it's misery.

  • Yeah, and if you ever have some sort of infection that becomes somewhat serious... let's just put you down. Some people seem to think that an animal's life is just so insignificant compared to theirs.

What makes a life important? This dog deserves to life without constant pain.

  • dogs are treated like humans

  • Comemon people.........let evolution take it course!!!!!!!! Did you ever think that maybe you are working against evolution in keeping the "unfit" in the gene pool??? Wasted resources... and the truth is, take it how you will......... it's cheaper to just euthanize them. Sorry....no offense!

  • Im so glad not all people think like you.

  • An infection is not evolution. Evolution works when GENETIC mutations affect the physical body making individuals better, or worse, adapted to surviving their local environment. The unhelpful mutations result in death, while the helpful ones allow for survival. The physical changes then must be able to pass down to the offspring of these "better survivors". It has nothing to do with changes made by bacterial or viral infections, as these changes are not genetic and cannot be passed down.

  • @ carlingnugent

you're not wrong just natural selection better explains evolution as you've explained it, by using "surviving their local environments". Selective breeding uses human intervention to work as the selector of good and bad genes and in a sense evolves the animal like nature would otherwise. Although viruses do mutate for example; HIV, so it does evolve. Part of the problem with influenza virus is the mutation of viruses from animal to humans, its directly related to "evolution".

  • Yeah, I was just trying to explain natural selection, and "micro evolution". I get really upset when people don't understand evolution properly! but I might not be the best at explaining it! lol

You're right too. Two species evolving together (Coevolution), like the human immune system and HIV or predator-prey interaction affect the way they each evolve. This is because other organisms are a part of your local environment.

  • Selective breeding does sort of "expedite" the evolutionary process. Selective breeding of flowers is how we first began to understand dominant and recessive genes!

But when one individual gets an infected wound, like this poor doggie and probably caused by poor living conditions, it's not that they're not longer genetically fit for the species. If they bred this dog, the puppies would come out normal and healthy. It's not like they would have a hole disintegrated into their jaw bone.

    :)

    xoxo

  • A dog like 'the unbalanced bulldog' has a genetic problem as a result of inbreeding. Best friends have him a nice place to live so that he could have a happy life, but they're not going to allow him to have puppies. They're not keeping the "unfit" in the gene pool, they're just giving dogs a place to be safe and happy. Why do you care how much money it costs their organization?

  • I don't get it... they make it sound like it's the saddest thing in the world because this dog has never been treated since she was a puppy... but the similar thing or even worst is happening with HUMANS in third world countries

  • people do love thier animals...

  • You should be a vet, this planet needs more people who take care of the animals!!! :D

  • why is it that nationalgeographic only does 3 minute videos? i just dont get it... why not show what happens or what is going to happen... they just show the dog with an infeection and thats it.... wth

  • because they want you to watch their channel

  • but that show has already been aired and is gone... doesnt make sence still.....

  • So that you'll go watch the whole episode on TV! So they can get money.

  • the show has already aired... it doesnt make sense

  • they still make money from re-runs.

  • they have reruns; maybe they even have DVDs

  • yet the dog is so gentle!

I hope they can do something to bring her back to health. Sounds like they are ready for the challenge. ...or at least they seem eager to what they can. Bravo!

  • I really hope the dog gets healthy

  • The owner should at least have brought the dog to them or given it to someone else before shooting

    him/herself... Poor dog

  • "Holy Crap" indeed..... man I feel bad for the dog... I remember when I had a toothache and it hurt like hell, but comparing that to this is like..... DAMN!!!!! People need to learn to take responsibilities.....

  • I agree. I can't imagine having that for my entire life.

  • lol.... ur username is HolyCrap..... (reply to "HolyCrap")

  • "Must hurt like a mother" hahahaha

  • LLOOL

  • OMG!! :( poor puppy!

  • i cant imagine how it feels.

  • gotta love the way humanity constantly interferes with natural selection.

  • Gotta love how ignorant atheists don't use the proper use of natural selection.

  • Explain? That looked like interfering with natural selection to me. That said, I'm a fan of interfering with natural selection. Especially when it comes to puppy dogs.

  • lol true

  • Dogs wouldn't even exist if humans had made no selection.

  • @Vodd9 Not even wild dogs?!?! Really!?!?

  • MISSOURI

  • The previous owner who abandoned her should shoot them self. Already knowing about her condition, and then just ditching the poor dog?

I hope the dog has a happy ending in store for her, and I hope the previous owner gets a horrible jaw infection like that.

Sorry to take this personal but I also have a female black lab so this kind of hits home for me.

  • yeh but to be honest, if the person couldnt afford to look after the dog it will have a better life there

And snap i also have a black lab so it did the same for me

  • @Spitfiredrgn:

    I totally agree with you.

  • poor dog...i hope she recovers.

  • That's sad...

  • One wonders... was Zambi examined by a vet before? If so, why the fuck wasn't that horrible infected area treated?

  • listen to the first 30 seconds...

  • The guy in black looked like he was going to throw up. :( Poor little dog. :(

  • I WANNNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENS, don't they know theres on point only putting fragments on here, its not making me buy the channel or go watch it.

  • "Is that her tongue?"

    "No... it's a strawberry airhead!"

  • poor Zambi :(

  • FIRST TO SAY FIRST

poor dog, I would like to see the rest of this documentary and see if she gets better

  • i have two dogs watching this made me love my dogs more, they're my little buddys ☺

  • Aww thats so sad!

  • ouch, poor dog... and props for not saying first

  • That poor dog. How could she not have been treated if she had this since she was a pup? Horrible owners.

  • Maybe the owners didn't have enough money to treat the dog until these people stepped in, or maybe they did tried but the veterinarians they took the dog to, weren't capable to treat the dog, for any number of reasons, who knows.

Don't blame anybody until you know the full story.

  • oh please, after that many years, there is absolutely no excuse.

  • fuck u NG .....put what happened to this poor dog, you cant give previews for shows like this..it leaves the viewer devistated...ass holes

  • What a poor dog...I wanted a dog just like this and its so sad!

  • poor dog
