The best all around, current player in Hockey is Pavel Datsyuk. Nobody is as fluid, as good on defense, can set you up, can score himself, and has his kinda hands, and nifty moves that help his teams earn points in the NHL's new Shootouts.

There IS alot more to a player than just offense alone, that's true of any sport really. With modern hockey you have to take the good with the bad. In my opinion the three best players on the ice are Pavel Datsyuk, Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin. Now Datsyuk is an amazing two-way forward but he's never been physical; Malkin is an awesome set-up man but he doesn't do anything on defense; and Ovechkin is a scoring machine but he's way too selfish with the puck.
I have to agree with your statements, but to say Evgeni Malkin doesnt do anything on defense is insane. The man led the league in Takeaways last year. If Malkin's faceoff percentage was better he would be the most complete player in the league.
I probably shouldn't have put it like that, I think there are better defensive forwards in the game, and I think his +/- could be a little higher considering he's probably the best set up man in the game this side of Joe Thornton, BUT that's just me being nitpicky. For what its worth he's better than Crosby.
I don't doubt Tavares will succeed, but it sure won't be with the Islanders. They don't develop their players at all, they drafted guys like Okposo and Bailey in the first round and stuck them on the Islanders the NEXT year. For example Bailey was awesome on the Spitfires in 08, he had 96 points; last year he had 25 after playing the same amount of games. Crosby got tossed in the mix really early too, but at least he had players like Palffy, LeClair and Mario freakin Lemiuex to help him out.
That's very true. I think Isles fans are expecting a huge miracle in the first season, but like Sid I think it will take Tavares time to adjust, whether it is with this team or the next.

Islanders have a POTENTIALLY good team next year. Bailey, Okposo and Tavares could be strong on the starting lines if constructed correctly; if you put enough talent around a guy like Comeau he's bound to shine. And adding another good goaltender like Roloson (hopefully not signed to a ridiculous contract like Dipietro) could give them defensive depth that Streit could work off of.
The Islanders have a potentially good team this year, three young 1st rounders like Tavares, Bailey and Okposo could be strong on the starting lines espescially with a guy like Blake Comeau around. Dwayne Roloson should (barring a ridiculous contract) add good defensive depth; now they just need to pair someone with Mark Streit on starting defense if they want to get anywhere in their division.

Whereas we have the #1 pick, Okposo who's going to be a beast and you cant deny that, and once Dipietro returns to full health a top tier goaltender. Including a ton of high picks in this years draft. the Isles also have a ton of cap room. Its going to take the leafs alot longer to rebuild than the isles right now, the leafs just arent bad enough to get the top franchise prospects they need.
Dipietro is basically the same as Toskala.. A goalie who is very good when he's healthy but isn't healthy most of the time..
The Leafs have tons of prospects (i'm sure much more than NYI) Kulemin is a 2 way forward who will score 20 next year, Grabovski, Schenn, Bozak, maybe Gustavsson.. And believe me, the Islanders have nowhere near the cap room the Leafs have. No one except the Rangers do.
fyi- the isles have nearly $24 million in free cap space, the leafs have around $15 million.

The Islanders have a 48.8 percent chance of winning the lottery, next highest is 18 percent which is by the Lightning. Next after that is the Avalanche. I very highly doubt the Avalanche will win the lottery. If the Isles don't get the first pick, then they still get the second pick. So Tavares or Hedman will be an Islander, Tavares a potentially great scorer, and Hedman a 6'6" offensive defenseman who is often compared to Pronger. The Isles could very much benefit from either.
Things did go bad for us with Milbury, because he made moronic moves. But we have a great young core now (Okposo, Bergenheim, Bailey, Tambellini, Dibenedetto, Neilsen, etc.), and 5 picks in the first 2 rounds of this draft, as well as some cap room, so a few more players can be signed in the off season. Garth Snow has made the smart move to rebuild the Isles, and it's starting to head in the right direction. The team isn't gonna move, because the Lighthouse Project will come through.
John tavares is going to be an Avalanche. Joe Sakic will be retiring soon, and who better to replace Joe Sakic than John Tavares. NYI wont' get him, nothing ever goes their way (read the second post below this one.)

The best all around, current player in Hockey is Pavel Datsyuk. Nobody is as fluid, as good on defense, can set you up, can score himself, and has his kinda hands, and nifty moves that help his teams earn points in the NHL's new Shootouts.

I think the Athleticism is better. I think players with great vision just have it, and it's untrainable.

There IS alot more to a player than just offense alone, that's true of any sport really. With modern hockey you have to take the good with the bad. In my opinion the three best players on the ice are Pavel Datsyuk, Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin. Now Datsyuk is an amazing two-way forward but he's never been physical; Malkin is an awesome set-up man but he doesn't do anything on defense; and Ovechkin is a scoring machine but he's way too selfish with the puck.

I have to agree with your statements, but to say Evgeni Malkin doesnt do anything on defense is insane. The man led the league in Takeaways last year. If Malkin's faceoff percentage was better he would be the most complete player in the league.

I probably shouldn't have put it like that, I think there are better defensive forwards in the game, and I think his +/- could be a little higher considering he's probably the best set up man in the game this side of Joe Thornton, BUT that's just me being nitpicky. For what its worth he's better than Crosby.

I don't doubt Tavares will succeed, but it sure won't be with the Islanders. They don't develop their players at all, they drafted guys like Okposo and Bailey in the first round and stuck them on the Islanders the NEXT year. For example Bailey was awesome on the Spitfires in 08, he had 96 points; last year he had 25 after playing the same amount of games. Crosby got tossed in the mix really early too, but at least he had players like Palffy, LeClair and Mario freakin Lemiuex to help him out.

That's very true. I think Isles fans are expecting a huge miracle in the first season, but like Sid I think it will take Tavares time to adjust, whether it is with this team or the next.
I think team chemistry has alot to do with it as well.

Islanders have a POTENTIALLY good team next year. Bailey, Okposo and Tavares could be strong on the starting lines if constructed correctly; if you put enough talent around a guy like Comeau he's bound to shine. And adding another good goaltender like Roloson (hopefully not signed to a ridiculous contract like Dipietro) could give them defensive depth that Streit could work off of.

The Islanders have a potentially good team this year, three young 1st rounders like Tavares, Bailey and Okposo could be strong on the starting lines espescially with a guy like Blake Comeau around. Dwayne Roloson should (barring a ridiculous contract) add good defensive depth; now they just need to pair someone with Mark Streit on starting defense if they want to get anywhere in their division.

he was smart enough to sit it out.. he got painkillers and numb work to even skate.. shut the Fu.K up. he knew that he couldnt be in the game, because then zetterberg / pavel score goals. dont think he didnt want to be out there. well gretzky was never hit like ever so sure he didnt get any injuries. mario was very big so he could move like he wanted. im sure they both would do as crosby if they knew the other teams forwards would score if they were hurt skating out there.

I worry about hisdurability when he comes up against some of the monster defensemen in the NHL. The hits he takes will hurt.
Still, he's a very good skater and stick handler and could go far with the Islanders. If he reminds me of anyone it's Bryan Trottier. Trots may not have been Gretsky, but he wasn't half bad either.

Dipietro is basically the same as Toskala.. A goalie who is very good when he's healthy but isn't healthy most of the time..
The Leafs have tons of prospects (i'm sure much more than NYI) Kulemin is a 2 way forward who will score 20 next year, Grabovski, Schenn, Bozak, maybe Gustavsson.. And believe me, the Islanders have nowhere near the cap room the Leafs have. No one except the Rangers do.

fyi- the isles have nearly $24 million in free cap space, the leafs have around $15 million.
And another fyi- Toskala and Dipietro are no where near each other in caliber. Dont forget two seasons ago Dipietro was the starting goalie in the All-Star game just coming into his own. Hes a top goalie in this league, he just needs to stay healthy. The only thing Toskala and Dipietro have in common is health problems. I mean cmon man. Okposo is better than all those prospects besides schenn.

With the new Swedish Goalie that Burke's planning on signing, he could really scrap the majority of the team to get Tavaris and still have a pretty damn decent lineup. And as for Tavares, I'd like to say that he's going to be coming to Toronto, and that Burke is going to pull some sort of trickery to pull us to the second place draft pick and the Islanders will end up picking up Hedman... But it most likely won't happen. In a perfect world, we'd walk away with Brayden Schenn and Tavares and the Stanley Cup at the end of the year, but the chances of that are very slim, and it's time for the waiting game now.

First off, Fione, Canadians hype up over our hockey players because that's our national export. Twenty years ago, the NHL was 80% Canadian players, and even now that it's dwindled down, roughly half of the NHL is still Canadian. Not to mention how much talent has come out of Canada, such as Howe, Gretzky, and Richard, or even Crosby. Currently I think Ovechkin is the best player in the league, but Canadians still have a lot to be proud of. By the way, only about 15% of the NHL is American.

Crosby is a big pussy and he will never be on the level as Ovechkin. You dumbasses think that the next great one has to be canadian but as you can see the that isnt happening cuz ovechkin is that one. and yes hes russian not canadian.

theres no way J.T. is going to stay in NYI he ain't staying there 4 long NYI doesn't even have the players 4 him so he's going to get traded during 1st month of next year season or during offseason

We'll see when Tavares, Okposo & Bailey become one of the premiere lines in the league. Then when Petrov comes over. Plus we still got Weight for a year & Streit for a few more. Danis is only going to get better. Who know's if DiPietro will ever live up to his potential? DiBenedetto (sp?) & Katic may shine. And let's see if they pick up any free agents.

how bad did washington suck before ovechkin.. how bad did pitt suck before crosby. not that tavares will be a player of their caliber, but thats what happens. the worst team gets the best pick and you build from there. must really suck to know that the leafs are the wealthiest franchise but continue to put garbage on the ice year after year.

The Islanders have a 48.8 percent chance of winning the lottery, next highest is 18 percent which is by the Lightning. Next after that is the Avalanche. I very highly doubt the Avalanche will win the lottery. If the Isles don't get the first pick, then they still get the second pick. So Tavares or Hedman will be an Islander, Tavares a potentially great scorer, and Hedman a 6'6" offensive defenseman who is often compared to Pronger. The Isles could very much benefit from either.

Things did go bad for us with Milbury, because he made moronic moves. But we have a great young core now (Okposo, Bergenheim, Bailey, Tambellini, Dibenedetto, Neilsen, etc.), and 5 picks in the first 2 rounds of this draft, as well as some cap room, so a few more players can be signed in the off season. Garth Snow has made the smart move to rebuild the Isles, and it's starting to head in the right direction. The team isn't gonna move, because the Lighthouse Project will come through.

John tavares is going to be an Avalanche. Joe Sakic will be retiring soon, and who better to replace Joe Sakic than John Tavares. NYI wont' get him, nothing ever goes their way (read the second post below this one.)
If Toronto does some how miraculously get him, then I'm officially a Leaf bandwagoner
