  • Well, I made it per your recipe, except I used a Duncan Hines Red Velvet Cake Mix, so I didn't need the coloring. I do, however, love the addition of the Hot Cocoa. I didn't add the pudding, because there was pudding in the mix, and I stirred in flaked coconut to the cream cheese frosting. Thank you for sharing this with us! It's a great recipe.

  • but even though this is like the easiest way to do this cake and I'm dying to do it just that i wil put more food coloring on it

  • she should have had put n more red food coloring it came out like orang

  • Hey Ms.Rosie.. Do you think using a real dark hot coco mix would be ok also? Or do you think red won't come out too well using the dark vs regualr hot coco?? What do you think??

  • @phoenix9ty You can use dark hot cocoa. You can even use two packs for a more rich flavor.. The red will still show

  • Lady rosie as red velvetcake is made from a chocolate cake batter this kinda of confused me. But its a red cake yes.

  • @miss2umister Actually, you can use white cake and just add unsweetened cocoa powder. Infact, most folks that make it from scratch prepare it as a "white cake" but add the cocoa powder to the food coloring. She just does hers from the box and adds the hot cocoa packet...just a "use what you have version" I'm guessing. Almost reminds me of Sandra Lee on Semi Homemade.

  • @glamorousdollface Thanks Doll xoxo, you beat me to it

  • @miss2umister Thank you for this comment. However like I always state, this is "MY" recipe. Yes, many people use chocolate cake batter. This simply displays how I make a QUICK red velvet cake. MY version. Thanks for watching.
