I did not find Ann Coulter's comments the least bit amusing, but I must defend Sanchez. Many gays (i.e. the Log Cabin Republicans) differ only on the issue of gay marriage(an perhaps not even there). The fact remains is that if you support lower taxes, lower spending, smaller government, aggressive military policy, or are pro-life, the only place you can turn is the Republican party.

It concerns me that a gay conservative's views will be automatically ignored, even by the people who claim to fight for his rights. From what I seen, the most vicious and calculated attacks on gays have come from the left, not the right. The right's attacks may be bred of homophobia, but the attacks of the left seem to stem from a hate for anyone who strays from one of their captive voting bases.

Evangelical republicans make up a much larger part of the republican constituency than gay republicans. The pop issues will never be resolved no matter who or what party gets into the White House. Nobody really cares. It's all politics.

More than anything else, civil rights were what set America apart from every other country in the 18th and 19th centuries. Civil rights matter and are not to be written off as "pop issues". As for economics, the Bush administration has managed to turn a 3 trillion dollar surplus (left behind by Clinton) into a deficit it will take decades to pay off. We're also losing jobs over seas.
