The notion of "Gift of tongues" as used by fundamentalist folks nowadays is simply a sort of babble play, if not a mental disorder. There is no such thing as the "gift of tongues". Period. Non-issue. You are right about your speaking in tongues. Its bull crap! However, there is scientific, historical, philosophical, and logical reasons that the God of the bible is very real! me too sister, me too. I was a super Christian up until march 2010 and now I'm an atheist. It's so interesting how we are taught that any good feeling "camp high", strong emotion comes from God, when in reality it isn't. In hindsight, a Pentecostal sermon looks nearly identical to illusionist/hypnotist acts and trances. Nothing supernatural about it, just talented people using psychological tricks.
I consider myself a Christian and I believe Christ loves unconditionally. I believe God created everything but does not interfere with creation. Human rights are for all people. Hate is the antithesis of God. God is love. Not all Christians believe the bible is literal, hate gays, and are anti-science. I think a lot of religious people are fanatics with destructive views. I am a Christian Humanitarian. I respect all loving philosophies as truth. Don't judge us all as judgmental haters,please.
I have mixed feelings in this discussion of God. I know that the creation stories in all religions are descriptions to tell a story that was beyond understanding at that time. I have faith in God (a higher consciousness) and that God is not male nor female and can not be described in human terms) More like cosmic energy and the Bible is true like all religious books are true, not literal. The truth is a parable, like take the log out of your eye before you take the stick out of another's eye.
I was there too :( , First Assembly of God in GR, Mi. It was a cult, we spun into an "end of days" mode and things went from crazy to just plain nuts. I'm forever scared from the Christian youth camps, Christian "Royal Ranger" (Boyscout knock off), Wednesday night youth groups, Friday night prayer groups, 3 hour long services on Sundays, vacation Bible school in the summers, and all the mind control behavioral videos and audio tapes. I'm now free from this all. 1 Corinthians 14 against FAoG.
Religion has nothing for you. God didn't send His son to die so you could be caught up in what religion you're in or what branch you're apart of. God loves you. He LOVES you. To have a relationship with Christ is to have the greatest thing imaginable.

If you are part of a religion that has practices that are against God's word then it can keep you from really being intimate with God and pleasing God. I think that theology is very important because if there are certain practices or commands that God has for us that we choose to not believe while taking just what we want that we can actually be very far from the truth.

Wow this is a lot like my experience. I was raised in an Assembly of God church and we did this same stuff. When I became an atheist I had the same feelings as well. Didn't it seem so real at the time though? I am glad I opened my eyes to what was real though. From the outside looking in this seems nuts.

The Holly Spirit is a gift from God to those that want to receive it. And speaking in tongues is part of the gift. If God gave you that gift he will never take it back from you. You might still speaking in tongues as a 'gift given' but God and his holly presence might not be with you if you deny him.

I do believe in the phenomenon that is "speaking in tongues" even though I'm an atheist. I think that it's either caused because of the stimulus on the mind that causes some parts of the brain to function in a different way. Or simply by people having faith in the art, which causes them to believe their own lies, which is the very foundation of all fanatic theists.

Not gonna deny that what you had at the church was false. There are PLENTY of churches that go astray because they search for a 'feeling' and use that 'feeling' to support their belief in God, and then use whatever actions that come about from that feeling as defense for 'baptism in the Spirit' and the reality of God. I myself place all my trust in the Lord, and Christ works in my life. There is a baptism, but it is not of that feeling you received or what others make it out to be.
You speak beautifully & are gifted at story telling. I just have one question. You say the songs you get these emotions from are completely unrelated to God. You say you get these feelings from nature, etc. There are other people who feel music & nature move them emotionally and spiritually. Has it occured to you that some believers in God feel that music- not just gospel music- & nature are both related to God & are ways to connect to God? Tongues, the real tongues is something you can't be taught. Run from those who profess they can teach you. It's not something you have to TRY to do. @Oranuravatar It might feel that way to us. That feeling is why religion can be so successful. We aren't exactly wired for logic, our brains evolved over the course of billions of years. Just as a piece of our brain sees or hears, another piece feels things which religion can claim for its own. We need not stifle these feeling, but we should understand them for what they are.

Emotion is something God gave to us to enjoy life. Because you feel something doesn't always mean something is or isn't happening. I know many Christians who feel nothing during times when others feel a prominent presence of God. Being atheist, you should have already studied all religions, tested everything through science, and still come to the conclusion that there is no God.

I am an atheist, but I have always wanted to be able to let myself loose enough to speak in tongues. I have felt what I call euphoria when talking to devout Christians. I have felt something very similar after smoking a marley or two in college many years agon.

@freright123 Just because I feel euphoria doesn't explain from where the euphoria comes. It is one thing to label feeling and experiences and it is quite another thing to tie them to a book of mythology in this age of reason. One of my co-workers believes that speaking in tongues it is 'cursing God in an ancient tongue'. I believe in no supernatural thing, but I do believe what I have felt and choose to label that euphoria.
For me the emotion I receive from a worldly experience differs immensely from what I feel when I speak in tongues. When I received the Holy Ghost I knew with out a doubt what I had was real and not just some emotional feeling drummed up by the music or from something else. It's a joy unexplainable! Its amazing that she admits the same transcending feeling when she sees beauty in nature, art, ect. as if God is absent from those things. Biblical speaking in tongues is not just babbling, God actually gives you words of another language to minister to someone who may be listening or if there is someone who will interpret (Acts 2, 1 Corinthians 14). Speaking in tongues is supposed to edify the church, not give you some sort of spiritual high like some people use it with getting "filled with the Spirit."
You cant say that God isn't real and that speaking in tongues isn't real just because you faked it and felt some strange emotions. How do you know what you felt that day is what everyone else feels when they receive the spirit of the Lord?? LOL...you don't! This video is crap...lol...utter bullsh@t! I wish all Christians were real and tell the truth like her. I remember I was forced to speak in tongues because I live with my uncle who was a Pentecostal preacher. I faked it because I was in front of a lot of people. My uncle and aunt spoke in tongues, but still didn't change their ways. They quarreled over everything and almost got a divorce. Until I see a preacher walk on water, i will never believe in God.

I'd be interested to know what it was that convinced you to 'become' and atheist. Perhaps I'll find it in one of your other videos. As for this video, certainly there's no reason to believe that those who speak in tongues would have some monopoly on deep, overwhelming feelings that an atheist couldn't experience. The presence of emotion doesn't logically prove or disprove either belief. It only proves common humanity.
There is never one thing that convinces you to become an atheist. It is a whole bunch of little things that you find unconvincing that build up over time. Eventually you get to the point that you have to ask yourself why you really believe and what good evidence is there for it. When you ask yourself those questions honestly and apply the bullshit filter that you apply to every other thing you don't believe, you just come to the conclusion that there is simply no good reason to believe.
Personally, I feel way closer to God, and safer, looking at sunrises and at the beauty he made, or being in my mother's arms, or laughing with friends, than I ever do at church. That doesn't mean he isn't real. It just means sometimes church isn't the best place to find him. Take care girl, and don't let this weird stuff convince you he's not real.

It's so interesting how we are taught that any good feeling "camp high", strong emotion comes from God, when in reality it isn't. In hindsight, a Pentecostal sermon looks nearly identical to illusionist/hypnotist acts and trances. Nothing supernatural about it, just talented people using psychological tricks.

I consider myself a Christian and I believe Christ loves unconditionally. I believe God created everything but does not interfere with creation. Human rights are for all people. Hate is the antithesis of God. God is love. Not all Christians believe the bible is literal, hate gays, and are anti-science. I think a lot of religious people are fanatics with destructive views. I have mixed feelings in this discussion of God. I know that the creation stories in all religions are descriptions to tell a story that was beyond understanding at that time. I have faith in God (a higher consciousness) and that God is not male nor female and can not be described in human terms) More like cosmic energy and the Bible is true like all religious books are true, not literal. The truth is a parable, like take the log out of your eye before you take the stick out of another's eye.

I was there too :( , First Assembly of God in GR, Mi. It was a cult, we spun into an "end of days" mode and things went from crazy to just plain nuts. I'm forever scared from the Christian youth camps, Christian "Royal Ranger" (Boyscout knock off), Wednesday night youth groups, Friday night prayer groups, 3 hour long services on Sundays, vacation Bible school in the summers, and all the mind control behavioral videos and audio tapes. I'm now free from this all. 1 Corinthians 14 against FAoG.

If you are part of a religion that has practices that are against God's word then it can keep you from really being intimate with God and pleasing God. I think that theology is very important because if there are certain practices or commands that God has for us that we choose to not believe while taking just what we want that we can actually be very far from the truth.

Wow this is a lot like my experience. I was raised in an Assembly of God church and we did this same stuff. When I became an atheist I had the same feelings as well. The Holly Spirit is a gift from God to those that want to receive it. And speaking in tongues is part of the gift. If God gave you that gift he will never take it back from you. You might still speaking in tongues as a 'gift given' but God and his holly presence might not be with you if you deny him.

I do believe in the phenomenon that is "speaking in tongues" even though I'm an atheist. I think that it's either caused because of the stimulus on the mind that causes some parts of the brain to function in a different way. Or simply by people having faith in the art, which causes them to believe their own lies, which is the very foundation of all fanatic theists.

And morals, as a matter of historical fact, DO change. Slavery is mandated in the Old Testament, as you must know, and Jesus spoke parables about slaves, with no condemnation of the practice, as St Paul did, if you read your bible. And for almost 2 000 years this 'moral' view went unchallenged. We now find it morally reprehensible. So was Yahweh/Jesus/St Paul wrong, or has accepted morality changed? The same with our views on women, gays, animals, the environment etc. Changed, and changing.

Not gonna deny that what you had at the church was false. There are PLENTY of churches that go astray because they search for a 'feeling' and use that 'feeling' to support their belief in God, and then use whatever actions that come about from that feeling as defense for 'baptism in the Spirit' and the reality of God. I myself place all my trust in the Lord, and Christ works in my life. There is a baptism, but it is not of that feeling you received or what others make it out to be.

Just as a piece of our brain sees or hears, another piece feels things which religion can claim for its own. We need not stifle these feeling, but we should understand them for what they are.

Emotion is something God gave to us to enjoy life. Because you feel something doesn't always mean something is or isn't happening. I know many Christians who feel nothing during times when others feel a prominent presence of God. Being atheist, you should have already studied all religions, tested everything through science, and still come to the conclusion that there is no God.

I am an atheist, but I have always wanted to be able to let myself loose enough to speak in tongues. I have felt what I call euphoria when talking to devout Christians. I have felt something very similar after smoking a marley or two in college many years agon.

It is one thing to label feeling and experiences and it is quite another thing to tie them to a book of mythology in this age of reason. One of my co-workers believes that speaking in tongues it is 'cursing God in an ancient tongue'. I believe in no supernatural thing, but I do believe what I have felt and choose to label that euphoria.

For me the emotion I receive from a worldly experience differs immensely from what I feel when I speak in tongues. When I received the Holy Ghost I knew with out a doubt what I had was real and not just some emotional feeling drummed up by the music or from something else. It's a joy unexplainable! You don't want it to stop....and you feel such satisfaction. It's like every void has been filled. I wish I could just bottle it up and give it to everyone I know. It's just that

Biblical speaking in tongues is not just babbling, God actually gives you words of another language to minister to someone who may be listening or if there is someone who will interpret (Acts 2, 1 Corinthians 14). Speaking in tongues is supposed to edify the church, not give you some sort of spiritual high like some people use it with getting "filled with the Spirit."

I wish all Christians were real and tell the truth like her. I remember I was forced to speak in tongues because I live with my uncle who was a Pentecostal preacher. I faked it because I was in front of a lot of people. My uncle and aunt spoke in tongues, but still didn't change their ways. They quarreled over everything and almost got a divorce. Until I see a preacher walk on water, i will never believe in God.

As for this video, certainly there's no reason to believe that those who speak in tongues would have some monopoly on deep, overwhelming feelings that an atheist couldn't experience. There is never one thing that convinces you to become an atheist. It is a whole bunch of little things that you find unconvincing that build up over time. Eventually you get to the point that you have to ask yourself why you really believe and what good evidence is there for it. When you ask yourself those questions honestly and apply the bullshit filter that you apply to every other thing you don't believe, you just come to the conclusion that there is simply no good reason to believe.

Personally, I feel way closer to God, and safer, looking at sunrises and at the beauty he made, or being in my mother's arms, or laughing with friends, than I ever do at church. Did not realizze you were aetheist. As to the judgements of the OT.This applied to Israel. This was the law FOR THEM. They were a society under a law that did not apply to others. You could not put a Roman or gentile to death for adultery. This was for Israel. The NT came and Jesus taught let the tares grow with the wheat. They THINK it is their duty to ram people not of the faith but again they are in ignorance. They use verses like all persons must hear the gospel. Christians are supposed to judge within the chruch not in condemnation or hypocrisy but to make sure the word is followed within to be good examples. We are never to be in condemnation of the wicked who we consider to be living in sin. Leave them God to judge once they are told the word or about the word. If you do not like law of Ot for Israelites that is surely your right to feel that way and I will not try to tak ethat right or choice. Please respect my right to choose belief.

The defending of what we think we know. For children of God, it is through faith we believe in God and the scriptures. And through this faith, the supernatural happens in the natural. I can only testify from what I have seen God do. What I am saying is, you had a bad experience in religion that you can explain and now you are an atheist, ok, and I had a wonderful experience that I can only try to explain and I am a child of God.

I cant make you believe God is real and you cant make me believe that God is a hoax. My quarrel is not with you, but I wish for only good things for you. I pray that revelation comes to all of us. - I know you're not addressing me, but I'd like to rebut that claim as an atheist.
You CAN make us believe in gods, fairies, zombies, etc. - We're generally open to such ideas, and require only evidence.
This is the same requirement for every advancement in understanding that science has made, and it's the only useful way to discern myth from fact.
Provide that, and we'll all thank you.

Not all Science is not based on facts,but on theory on some things. they may give compelling arguments, but still theory. I cannot believe evolution or that we just happened. Again, I cannot make you believe, I may heavily influence you that God is real by sharing my own experiences and testimonies.

- You're showing that you don't understand scientific method, or the word "theory". Go to dictionary•com and look up "theory" - it mostly means "guess". Now check the section that defines what the word means in technical use. THAT is the word we're discussing.
In science, "theory" roughly means, "fact established beyond any reasonable doubt". Reproduction and gravitation are both theories and, like evolution, are also fact.

Theory need not necessarily be facts. Reproduction and gravitation are empirical science and can be verified, evaluated, checked and rechecked and will give the same result almost all the time. Evolution on the other case is a theory but its is also a hypothesis and evolving and cannot be empirically verified or established.

Try praying to God for for week, just saying God if you are real I need you to convince me. I am thankful that you are open with this idea. May God reveal himself to you. I must say there is nothing wrong with asking God if he is real and to prove it. There were times that I needed God to show up and he did. (show up- means answer my prayer or do something ridulous) I admit that I asked him to do things because I had not used my faith practices. God humored himself and answered anyhow.

I was a faithful, die-hard pentecostal Christian for many years. I went to church 7 times a week (twice Saturday), and planned to go into ministry. It was life experienc and reason that saved led me from those myths.
Asking me to blindly accept your claim isn't a valid response. Would you blindly accept a claim that fairies exist and talk to them until you no longer question it?

The reason I responded to this vid is because it adresses an issue about activiities of teh Chritsian faith. Speaking in tingues is a holy spirit thing. So my comment was for the eyes of Christians who may be watching the vid. I may have should have stated that in my repsonse. There is misuse of tongues and misunderstadning of proper true order of tongues so THAT is what I needed to adress. ! corinth 14 shows proper order of it. Lots of deception about it in the churches. Church is scattered.

actually speaking tongues is not just a Christian faith thing. Demonic faiths do it to. You can research that. You cannot convince me that they are NOT real nor cannot I force you to accept it is from the holy spirit of the Living God when done in proper instruction of 1 corinthians 14.
